“Budget Hotel for HK Shoppers”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2011

The hotel is NOT located in the usual tourist areas, BUT it was accessible. A bus to the Tsing Yi MTR station is always available at back part of the hotel compound. It is a highly recommended hotel for Hong Kong shoppers looking for a bargain in terms of accommodations. We got a Standard Double Room. The room was quite small, but very clean and was cleaned everyday. The hotel had a great pool, which we unfortunately was not able to enjoy because we came to the city to shop, shop and shop. The nearest mall, Maritime Square (Tsing Yi MRT Station), is great not just for shopping, but for enjoying HK cuisine as well. There were 2 convenience stores within the hotel compound which made essential buys (Ie. water, food, etc) a breeze. I would recommend this hotel not just to friends, but to other tourists as well.

Our experiences are similar to some of those who have posted theirs. There are 400+ rooms with oni 4 lifts. During peak hours, the crowd at the lift lobby is so huge that it can either cause a stampede or fainting from lack of oxygen. The people who stay there are mostly mainland chinese who are totally uncivilised with no clue as to what is graciousness and basis human courtesy. They do not respect your present let alone yr space. When the lift door opens, we were literally pushed into the lift and they couldnt care if you have old folks or kids. We stayed 4 floors above the lobby and we chose to climb the stairs for 'safety' reasons. I hv little complaint for the locations as once we take a cab to the nearest MRT station (which cost HK$25-$30), it is very convenient right after. The tiny rooms are pathethic cos we hv no space to open the luggage. One thg to note, the container port located nx to the hotel works 24 hrs!!!! Nt friendly for light-sleeper at all!!! There is no breakfast provided and there are oni 2 eatery outlets located at the tiny stretch of mall at Level 1. Imagine another tag-of-war with a few hundreds of rude and loud mainland Chinese just to get your food in the morning is a nightmare! Lastly, speak only English, it will make your life easier there in HK.

Room Tip: just basic, dont expect anythg.

Façade is impressive as it's a combination of 2 hotels (Rambler Garden & Rambler Oasis) and a service apartment (Rambler Crest).

Location is good for those on overnight stopover as it's only one station down from the airport. Not within walking distance to MTR station but there are shuttle buses available to take you to and from the 2 nearest MTR stations, Tsing Yi & Kwai Fong. Although there is usually a long queue for the one going to Tsing Yi, shuttle timings are frequent and we never had to wait for long to be able to board. If your heading to the city it's best to take the one to Kwai Fong anyway.

Shuttle 88F goes to Tsing Yi MTR station - approx 10mins - HKD3 one-way trip
Shuttle 88G goes to Kwai Fong MTR - approx 15 mins - HKD3.5 one-way trip

If you don't want to take the shuttle buses, taxis drive past every few minutes and fares are pretty cheap. Starting fare is HKD18 and the meter jumps quite slowly. Cost us only HKD26 to get from Tsing Yi MTR back to the hotel.

Free Wifi is available in the lobby, get the password from the front desk. It's supposed to be available in all the rooms as well but judging from the number of people we observe every morning sitting around the reception area with their laptops I don't think that's true. We never tried connecting from our room though.

Room was clean and overlooks the harbour where you can see the containers being loaded and stacked. It can be quite fascinating to watch the cranes working, especially at night, but if you're the type who can't sleep unless there's absolute silence it would be prudent to ask for a room that faces somewhere else.

Room size is small but I'd like to point out that this is really quite the norm in Hong Kong. Even those at high end hotels are not much bigger than this unless you purchase a suite. There is a window seat that provides additional space to place your luggage however so we didn't really think it was too bad.

Simple wardrobe to hang jackets and jeans. Amenities include an electric kettle, mugs, tea bags and fridge. There are bedroom slippers provided as well but these are paper thin (no exaggeration) so better to bring your own because the floor is not carpeted but white tiled. (Who knows when was the last time the floor got mopped..)

Bathroom is pleasantly modern. Water nice and hot and water pressure really strong which is definitely a plus for me. Toiletries provided are hairdryer, toothbrush with toothpaste, shaver with shaving cream, bar of hand soap (although there's no soap dish to put it in) and a dispenser in the shower filled with 3-in-1 shampoo conditioner & body soap. The door to the bathroom is a sliding door and cant be locked, something to take note of if you're not staying as a couple.

There are a lot of mainland chinese staying here. Every evening there will be at least a bus load of a newly arrived group and they will jam up the lift lobby so try not to return around 7-8pm. They can be very loud and noisy too as I guess is their nature, yelling across their rooms to each other at night. (Probably don't know what the room phone is for..)

Reception is at the 5th floor. If you head to the lower levels (first floor if I remember right) there is a shopping arcade. I believe it's to cater to those staying in the service apartments because you have convenience stores like 7-11, a Japan home if you happen to need anything like bedroom slippers, food containers or suitcases, a well-stocked supermarket that carries fresh fruit and meat, and 2 eateries where you can get congee, rice and noodles at reasonable prices. And I think I saw some burgers on the menu as well.

Use of the pool is not free. Not sure how much is the levy but I heard it was HKD100 per person.

Overall I would recommend this hotel for those on overnight stopovers or couples travelling on a budget. But provided you can get the room at a good discounted rate as I noticed many people did. We stayed 4D3N at HKD400 per night through a package on a coupon deal site. The normal rate on the website states around HKD700 per night for a twin sharing room. If I were to pay for that kind of rate I would stay somewhere nearer to the city.

Convenient to airport on Lantau.
Has tiny mall in basement w/ odds and ends, some food. Rambler Oasis (sister property) does not have, but its only a few minute walk.
Of the two, I preferred Rambler Oasis, next door. But if RO is full, this is almost the same. But seems just a tiny bit older.
So first try for RO then RG, imho. but of course RG has the mini-mall.

I travelled with family, 5 of us in all and the agency got us this hotel. After checking in, we went to our rooms and we waited quite a while for the lift(s) to come even though there were 4 lifts. After 10 mins or so, one fo the lifts finally came and the lift door opened. But to our dismay, there was a hotel staff inside the lift who closed the lift door on us! THAT, was still tolerable, but the real PROBLEM began when we got to our room. To our shock and astonishment, the room was unusually small! It was so small that it's impossible for us to even open our luggaga inside the room! Come on! don't tell me i gotta drag my luggage to the corridor( which wasn't too wide too ) everytime i have to open my luggage to take out my belongings or to do packing???? The room is outrageously small and unfit for 2 or 3 person to live in! unless one goes on a trip without any luggage and MAYBE, you won't find the super LIMITED space a problem. I then tried to ask for a change to a bigger room and i had another shock, they have NO BIGGER room available in the hotel. ALL the rooms are of the same size as the ones which i was offered of. Yes, i know space are limited in Hong Kong, but i've stayed in other hotels such as Eaton, Nathan, Prudential etc, and they did NOT give me such SMALL rooms! should they even be allowed to have such small rooms for hotel rooms? I believe i'm not being difficult or asking for more here as all i merely want are 2 rooms with enough bed space for 2/3 to sleep and of cos enough room to house and for me to open 2/3 luggages comfortably inside the room. The pictures provided on the website are all very misleading, as pictures of the entire rooms were not shown at all. When i was at the check-in counter to ask for a change in rooms, i was not the only one! Turned out that other people were super disatisfied with the rooms too, especially this particular couple who were travelling with their young kid and they had luggages and baby pram with them. I was told that let alone luggages, they couldn't even open the baby pram inside the room. I'm not kidding, that was how small the rooms are. And the cleanliness of the rooms are very questionable as there were small cockroaches or some creepy crawlies crawling out from underneath the bedsheet at night, at ard 9pm even when we were inside the rooms and we did not bring any food into the rooms at all! this hotel is situated quite in the rural/outskirt area of Hong Kong, it gets very inconvenient when it comes to travelling unless you're willing to spend time waiting around for shuttle bus ( have to pay ) etc or to spend more on cab fare ( from hotel to MongKok, about $100 HK dollars for one way ) In all, i would NOT stay in this hotel ever again. it's a nightmare!

If you're on a budget this hotel is definitely what you're looking for. However, i wouldn't recommend it if you had an extra money. The location is far from the city and a 10-15min bus ride to the nearest MTR station. They don't have a free wifi inside the rooms, you need to go to the lobby for their free wifi and you're not even allowed to plug in your laptop. The elevators are also disappointing, it will took you some time to go to your room because of the slow operation. On a positive note, they rooms are clean and they have some stores on their basement. Staffs are also accommodating.
