“Brand new boutique, ironing out the kinks”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2014

We stayed one night in the Stanley Suite, which is a corner suite affording a fantastic view of congested, sky-scraper Central, and looks right over the legendary Pottinger Street. The location is ideal for visitors wanting to be dropped into the heart of Hong Kong's little streets, markets and jostling shoppers. Nice to discover a peaceful boutique hotel here, so tastefully decorated in a blend of elements that include classic blue/white ginger jars, and sleek chrome and marble. The suite was pristine and smart - nothing too fussy, but with a light touch afforded by pale pistachio and white fabrics, with the occasional cherry hues. Nespresso machines, complimentary Fiji water and Hong Kong cookies are in the salon. A thoughtfully curated selection of Hong Kong books for adults as well as children, shows attention to detail and a desire to showcase the best local authors and artists have to offer. Sliding doors separate the bedroom and bathroom suite from the salon, so that meetings may be comfortably hosted. The bathroom is large in white marble, with good water pressure and lighting. HD TV and sound system (though we couldn't access many international channels). Acca Kappa brand toiletries are an elegant touch.
Lovely thick white bathsheets. Rather surprisingly, the bedlinen is not of the same quality. While it looks very beautiful, the cotton is not as fine or as soft as other hotel bedlinen in this category of hotel. Hopefully this will be addressed soon.
As the hotel is only about two weeks old, it is understandable that some aspects are still in process. The complimentary breakfast in The Envoy lounge is at this stage - ahead of the kitchen being in full operation - a light continental offering. But the pastries and bread could be finer, and it probably wouldn't take much to compile a good assortment of fresh cheeses and fruit. It is worth noting that The Envoy has a lovely outdoor terrace - ideal for balmy nights.
Gym and spa facilities do not exist on site, but I was given to understand that guests are welcome to visit the nearby Caifornia Fitness Gym.
A lovely alternative to the massive hotels that typify a visit to Hong Kong. Reasonably priced at this early stage of the hotel's existence. I think it may turn out to be a jewel...

Room Tip: - The Stanley Suite is a corner suite with a super view up Pottinger street and into the Sckyscraper...

I stayed here in June, 2014 for my last night in Hong Kong after living there for a little less than two years, so as a semi-local rather than a tourist or business traveller.

At least for the price at the time (~190 USD) I imagine it is one of the best deals in Central. Certainly cheaper than the Four Seasons or Mandarin Oriental but the service and amenities were at about that same level, just without the views or restaurants. The only odd thing is that it's a little difficult to get to, with a Queen's Road address but a Stanley Road entrance. It's walkable from the Central MTR.

I stayed in Deluxe room for two days. I will stay here again next time in HK.
1. Room is big and surrounded by windows.
2. Bed is very comfortable!!
3. Big bathroom and bathtub.
4. Great toiletries with Italy brand Acca Kappa.
5. Free FIJI water, how nice.
6. Nice Sony TV with HD channels.
7. Great location, near subway station and shopping mall.
8. Nice service. They will lead you to the room and introduce.
9. Elegant decoration, not too modern.
10. The price is good so far, under USD 200 per night.
11. Loud from the street in the morning since 8:00 am. But quiet at night.

There is a lot to be said about staying in a new hotel …carpet still has that fresh new smell and clean, walls are unmarked, furniture clean, bed is super comfy , bathrooms are pristine (no mildew/mold) , towels are fluffy (bath sheet size too !), nespresso machine in the room has hardly if not never been used – staff are super eager to please …..and introductory price is well worth it.

Simple yet fresh breakfast (at present inclusive) - croissant, muffin, Danish and a cup of coffee – if you are seeking a Big hearty buffet breakfast this is not the hotel for you.

Classic room has no “work desk” – but if the Wi-Fi is great which for business is a must.
Staff were in abundance and were all very polite, friendly and attentive, including the staff at breakfast (including the “chefs” – not sure if they in fact made the pastries).

Location is great, Soho, LKF, MTR and more – but it’s just a little too close to Airport Express to get (warrant) a taxi, but just that little too far if you have a lot of luggage to walk it.

I also think that after the opening “honeymoon” period – prices will rise considerably

Thank you to the Pottinger, as guests we assume that it is up to the hotel to keep the condition that it is in today, and while this is true to an extent - I hope the guests of The Pottinger treat it kindly and keep the same standard it is today.
