“Cozy, comfortable, far from the city...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2010

Went with a friend in HK last month and got quite a good deal for a 5-star hotel. Nice amenities, good food BUT not for friends/peers...

For one, the comfort room has glass walls with almost transparent curtains. But that's nothing. The hotel employees were also not commendable - not friendly at all. It felt like speaking to robots. The worst deal about this hotel is that it's situated far away from the city - nightlife, night market and all other attractions in Hong Kong.

If it was a business trip, I would readily recommend this hotel... well, except for those glass CR walls...

Stayed in this hotel from March 24 to 28. Considered it a bargain since we got it for only HKD2,530 for two queen size beds. We were initially assigned to room 7728. It had a nice view of the harbour and the room was quite big. Everything seemed perfect until we were awaken by renovation works coming from the upper floors. Later found out that work has been going on since Jan 25. We requested to be transferred and was taken cared off by Derek from the reception. We moved to room 1424 a few minutes later. The view from the room was not as nice as the 77th floor but that was fine with us; just wanted to escape the madness from the previous room.

Room 1424 is situated on a smoking floor. It looks smaller compared to room 7728. It has a view of The Dynasty and a park but still, we had problems with the noise, only this time emanating from the other rooms and from the water pipes. As mentioned in prior reviews, the rooms seem to be divided by thin walls. We heard conversations, tv audio and the sound of water from the showers. Another problem was the water leak in our toilet, which kept the toilet floor wet most of the time. Didn't bother to complain with that, we just thought this was better than the previous room.

Cable tv has 24 channels but mostly in Chinese. They have English channels though such as Aljazeera, Arirang, NHK World, Australian network, Pearl TV and CCTV 9. They have complete toiletries except for a disposable shaver. They didn't have bathrobes too.

They have 8 internet stations in the lobby. They have so many lifts so transit from the lobby to the room is fast. If you're staying on the upper floors though, you need to transfer somewhere around the 41st floor to another set of lifts.

From the airport, we took the Airport Express. Two single journey tickets to Tsing Yi Station was only HKD90. Taxi to hotel was HKD40. Travelling by MTR from Tsuen Wan West to other destinations was very convenient, and it's not too expensive either. Once, we boarded Tsuen Wan West MTR to Causeway Bay and it only cost us HKD14.50 per head; Tsuen Wan West to Disneyland was only HKD 20 per head.

Internet charge for the room is as follows: HKD30 for an hour, HKD50 for 3 hours, HKD120 for 24 hrs.

Even with the problems we had, I'll still recommend this hotel to friends. Price is good, location is a bit far from the likes of Mongkok, Causeway Bay, or Tsim Sha Tsui but with the MTR, any place in HK seems easily accessible. The water leak can be repaired, the renovation works somehow will end, just don't know how they'll solve the problem with the sound proofing of each rooms.

I stayed here for 1 week and was given a "seaview" room with 2 queen size beds located on the 73rd floor. Excellent value!

This is truly a 5 star hotel. Location is at Tsuen Wan, New Territories, a 5 mins walk from West Rail Line MTR (an extension line of Tsuen Wan). it is ideal for the old and young as there is a huge park behind this hotel, Tsuen Wan Park. It is also near a pier.
There are free internet available at the lobby area (about 8 computers) but most of the time occupied by young children playing internet games when their parents are out shopping.

Shopping is available at CityWalk, CityWalk 2 and The Mall. They are all linked to the hotel. CityWalk is in the front (3 levels) , Citywalk and The Mall are just besides the hotel. There are many shops at CityWalk - Marks and Spencer, Uniqlo, World of Sports, Adidas, Popular Book store, Wanko, Levi's Store, The Body Shop, and many others.
But some shops are not leased out yet, esp.at CityWalk 2 and The Mall. There is a beautiful courtyard at the centre Food eateries available MOS Burger, KFC, Cafe de Coral, Jade Garden, Japanese Restaurants, Marion Crepes, etc.

There is no problem going to the city.. . take the Tsuen Wan West MTR to Mei Foo MTR to link to the red line for places like Prince Edward, Mongkok, Yau Ma Tei, Jordan, Tsim Sha Tsui, Admiralty and then to Central for other connections. There is link-up covered walkway from the hotel or UG level of CityWalk to the MTR station.

This hotel has value for money. I strongly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Hongkong.

If you're looking for a great value with larger rooms and a great view of a bay ... then look no farther. L' Nina is what you want.

Service is great , rooms are decent size, and staff is well trained.

if you're going to Disney, or the airport ... then this is an even BETTER option.

If you're going to be doing tourist things ... then stay here when you're island hoping near by ...

Also, if you're going to have a conference, this is a great option! Huge hotel, with tons of rooms, etc.

If you're going to places downtown - like around Nathan road - then don't stay here - stay at Metropark Kownloon (on Waterloo Road).

This is an incredible hotel - the fixtures and fittings and size of rooms are unbelievable for the price. I've stayed there twice in the past month, first on the 76th floor and then on the 61th floor. The view, simply from being so high up, is magnificent no matter which direction you face. It's well known for having glass walls between the bathroom and bedroom, and some of them don't have curtains so if you're staying with a loved one you have to be really into each other! One of the best things is the overhead tropical rain shower which is gorgeous. My second room had a bathroom that faces the outside, which was great since you're so high up you can't be seen and the glass is probably reflective anyway.

Some things are however not so convenient:

- Some rooms have night lights built into the night stands which cannot be turned off at all
- It's great that there's no 'energy saving' light anywhere - they are plain hideous and some people call them morgue lights and I couldn't agree more. However, there are simply so many beautiful lights in the room sometimes you have to have a bit of a runaround to turn them all off.

- The fittings and fixtures are outstanding for the price, but the walls are surprisingly thin!

- There's no guide as to how to use the TV or what the channels are at all - not that there's anything worth watching - still it's a bit of a waste of an enormous HD TV, and the one in front of the bath.

- The previous reviewer said there was no heating in the rooms. This explains why it didn't feel like the 22 degrees which I'd set the thermostat at! I was lucky it was cool when I was there, not biting cold. However I did feel the supplied blanket was inadequate and had to ask for a supplement.

- Furnishings can be "eclectic" - once I got a huge table with a room service menu of all the conspicuous consumption items, but there's only one armchair in the room - not that it's short of space for another or even a big sofa.

- Lack of documentation on anything.

- There's broadband socket in the room with a cable, but nothing happens when you plug it in. When the PCs in the lobby aren't fully occupied they are incredibly slow on the internet. Some people plug in their own laptops there but I don't know if it'd make any difference.

It is perhaps curious that it seems to largely cater to the coach tour market from China but I suppose it's a bit far from the 'action' to attract the big spenders. This suits me fine because HK is an insanely expensive city and this place is such good value and spacious. The neighbourhood wasn't known for being salubrious when I lived in HK but I suppose land is so precious that it has come up somewhat.

The hotel is situated just behind Tsuen Wan West Railway station. Ironically I didn't know how to get to the Tsuen Wan Metro station, but I reckon the walk from that station is comparable to the distance at Metro / West Rail interchanges. The system is super efficient. I twice went to the airport changing twice on the train and had no problem at all.

Breakfast is very expensive if you haven't got a B&B deal but there are loads of restaurants nearby which cater for most tastes quite cheaply. One big surprise is the Cafe de Coral at City Walk, whose scrambled eggs are the most gorgeous I've tasted anywhere. They state on the menu that the dairy is from Hokkaido in Japan and perhaps that does make a difference - I just don't know how they produce that quality in a fast food restaurant. Don't get fooled into thinking you get a sirloin in the set with a steak though.

But I digress. So if you want a super deluxe room at bargain price to crash for the night while you're in HK you can't go wrong. Just don't expect things like a bar in which to fraternise with your fellow guests. If you want a drink there's a 7/11 right next door and they sell alcohol ;-)
