Owner description: Lovely little fishing village with many shops and seafood. Take a boat ride for lovely scenery or take a walk up the mountain to see the White Chinese Dolhins swim.

Away from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong, Tai O is a quaint fishing village located in Lantau Island. Lots of things to do to fill half a day - boat ride around the bay (see the houses on stilts up close), little street food eats, lots of dried food products (dried fish, shrimp, even salted egg yolks). Worth a visit if you get tired of the mad rush in HK island/Kowloon!

It's a quaint fishing village, just a bus away from the Big Buddha. You can buy dried seafood products there but beware of being swindled if they know that you're not a local. The boat ride for the White Dolphin tour is a total rip off, even tho it's dead cheap HKD25 per adult and HKD20 for a kid. They will take you to see a row of old houses on stilts by the water, which I would say is pretty catchy for the lens. But don't hope too much on sighting a white Dolphin. They'd just take you a bit further out towards the ocean, and wait for about 5 mins on the spot. If nothing appears, they would just take you back without being bothered to make any sort of effort to locate a dolphine. They'd just turn back without even informing anyone on board. So unless you'd be happy to settle for just that, I'd suggest that you forego the boat ride.

We really enjoyed this boat ride and fishng village. For us it eye opening experience, we saw that way people live and saw their culture. W e know is that the fishing village is on stilts but it impressed us on lucky we are to be living in the US. We also saw dolphins.

Tai O is what many people call the Venise of HK. Well it is not like venice but it is worth seeing. Relatively authentic, you will travel across the small street of this fishers village and enjoy the show.
You can couple it with a visit to Big Buddha with a bus trip from Tai O to Buddha and then use the cable car to the outlet mall.

The town was basically a very lively fish-oriented series of markets. The special fish balls are the local specialty. But it's worth snaking your way through the stalls to the back where one lady sells the best Chinese mochi balls I've had.
