Owner description: Lovely little fishing village with many shops and seafood. Take a boat ride for lovely scenery or take a walk up the mountain to see the White Chinese Dolhins swim.

The trek is a bit far but definitely worth it. Bus #11 would bring you from Tung Chung bus station (just past the outlet mall) to the fishing village of Tai O. Depending on the detours, the ride could take anywhere from 40 mins to an hour. Once you arrive, feel free to following the path into the town, past the stalls selling dried seafood and giant fishballs w/ curry. Walk past the bridge (where you'd be asked to take a boat cruise around the village - may not be a bad ride, but we didn't have enough time), and continue on to see the traditional floating homes and the historic hotel.

Our trip here was short, but definitely unique and memorable. Really reminds you of the unique culture hidden in pockets of Hong Kong and its surrounding Islands.

Not a lot of tourists come to this town, take bus #2 after you see the big budda and ride until the end of the bus line about 25 minutes, all locals no English but you feel the great culture and all are very respectful, enjoy the pink dolphins tour and walk around this little fishermen village, we were allowed to go into one of the schools to see how Chinese people learn and quiet an experience, we did this in 2010 and was by far the best thing I did I'm Hong Kong.

Away from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong, Tai O is a quaint fishing village located in Lantau Island. Lots of things to do to fill half a day - boat ride around the bay (see the houses on stilts up close), little street food eats, lots of dried food products (dried fish, shrimp, even salted egg yolks). Worth a visit if you get tired of the mad rush in HK island/Kowloon!

It's a quaint fishing village, just a bus away from the Big Buddha. You can buy dried seafood products there but beware of being swindled if they know that you're not a local. The boat ride for the White Dolphin tour is a total rip off, even tho it's dead cheap HKD25 per adult and HKD20 for a kid. They will take you to see a row of old houses on stilts by the water, which I would say is pretty catchy for the lens. But don't hope too much on sighting a white Dolphin. They'd just take you a bit further out towards the ocean, and wait for about 5 mins on the spot. If nothing appears, they would just take you back without being bothered to make any sort of effort to locate a dolphine. They'd just turn back without even informing anyone on board. So unless you'd be happy to settle for just that, I'd suggest that you forego the boat ride.

We really enjoyed this boat ride and fishng village. For us it eye opening experience, we saw that way people live and saw their culture. W e know is that the fishing village is on stilts but it impressed us on lucky we are to be living in the US. We also saw dolphins.
