Had a quick lunch at UCC Coffee Shop in Shatin today that was very average taste and a bit on the pricey end for the quality/taste of the meal served. I ordered the set lunch - minced meat curry with rice (HK$72) that was ok but not that good. The pork was ok but the sauce seemed to be something between the traditional brown sauce served with Austrian schnitzel and that commonly served with Japanese style curry sauce. While it was edible, it wasn't particularly good and not something I would repeat order (2.5 of 5 rating).
Coffee was correctly served after the meal, something many restaurants get wrong in Hong Kong, wait staff asked which I preferred so some points on the service end of eating at the UCC Coffee Shop. The coffee was bold but not a great taste on its own. Adding just a bit of milk made it a good coffee (rating 3 of 5).
Overall, the food was not worthy of a return visit but the coffee was ok. Unfortunately at HK$79 (w/service) this meal was a bit expensive for the taste quality of the food and coffee, making it difficult to recommend UCC for lunch.
