For a conference hotel, the rooms were nice and the setting was fantastic, next to a national (?) park! The food in the Rose Cafe was served buffet style and it got very boring very quickly and was often cold. Many of us at the conference couldn't wait to steal away to have some proper Chinese food out at a restaurant and did so a couple of times. The Chinese at the conference also said the food was not very good. The real complaint about this hotel, however, was that the staff knew almost no English and thus shouldn't call the hotel "international". They couldn't help us in the business center, couldn't confirm airline reservations, couldn't help make train reservations, couldn't get us a taxi (although that was not their fault entirely; the taxis refused to come all the way out to the hotel in rush hour.) Still, it would seem that a hotel might be able to provide taxis for their guests, especially because we had trains and flights to catch. What happened on the last day of the conference was that there were a couple of taxis available but refusing to drive in rush hour to the train station, so we had to overcrowd them and bribe the taxi driver with 2-3 times the cost of the trip which in the end wasn't all that much compared to U.S. prices. But if you plan to stay here and hop in and out of the city, that might be hard to do. Do take a walk on the grounds to the Ming Tomb along the sacred path. That was phenomenal and a short walk away. If you are planning a conference here, try to organize trips out for dinner.

Room Tip: Ask to be in the main building instead of the back building... or better not, no one will understand you.

It's challenging reviewing this hotel as I've got mixed views. The rooms are actually quite nice and spacious (I stayed in one of the more expensive rooms, an executive single room). The style is kind of modern mixed with a bit of retro. The shower and bath were nice and spacious and it had a good bed and toilet.

However, the rooms were really cold and the air cond is centrally controlled so I ended up having to get a heater brought to my room.

Biggest downfall with this hotel is the frustration you'll experience if you don't speak Chinese. Not many of the staff speak English so communicating your needs is quite difficult.

I asked for a room away from the lifts and of course ended up getting a room literally outside the lifts.

So it can be a little frustrating as I found myself putting up with things that were annoying me, simply because I couldn't be bothered trying to continually mime what I wanted.

Oh, and forget about attending the gym. There were 3 old pieces of cardio equipment and no weights. Plus I went to get a massage and quickly exited when I walked into a smoke filled massage room.

So overall, pleasant room, nice staff but difficult to ask for what you need and SHOCKING fitness facility (smelt of mildew, chlorine and smoke).
