A good very acceptable hotel. A little older hotel but clean and a very good staff. My second stay here and I am planned to come back again. Also easy is that the German Nanjing Paulaner bar is only 2 min walking. For foreign people who want to drink a good beer and have some western food....a good place to be

This is a good standard, Chinese four star hotel - the staff were helpful and friendly, the rooms are well-furnished and equipped, the breakfast is extensive and good quality, so I was surprised by reviews that said their rooms were old and run down. Apparently the hotel was built by a Japanese company and the bathrooms feature the toilets so beloved of Japanese, so it may be true. I found that everything worked, the price was very reasonable and the location is quite good. Depending which of Nanjing's railway stations you need to get to, it will take ten or thirty minutes, but the Fuxi Miao (Temple of Confucius) is about twenty minutes away by taxi and that's the main area to visit, plus the walls, gates, towers and lakes - all easily reachable. The Nanjing Memorial Museum is about ten minutes by taxi. I think it represents very good value but it's a four, rather than a five, star hotel.

I didn't expect much from the Nanjing Grand Hotel and that's what I got. I stayed at the hotel for a conference and wouldn't voluntarily stay here again.

The hotel lobby and second floor (where there are ballrooms) are beautiful and well-maintained, but the rest of the hotel is shabby and in dire need of renovation.

My room was rather large, which is nice, but had dirty and worn carpet, crumbling bathroom tiles, and spotted walls. It also stunk of smoke. There is no requesting a smoke-free floor in this hotel and the scent permeates everything.

There are a couple of restaurants in the hotel. The Japanese restaurant on the fourth floor had good food, and the main restaurant (first floor) has a breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffet. The food is decent, but they could definitely be better with drinks! The drinks (orange juice, cola) are fairly watered down and the glasses are rather small.

In addition, this is not the hotel for you if you don't speak Mandarin. We couldn't find any staff people who spoke more than a few phrases in English, and had to rely heavily on conference organizers when there were problems with rooms (which there were), dining (which there were), or needed taxis, directions, etc. I've read the other reviews and it's like we didn't stay at the same hotel!

Very nice hotel with traditional features in the lobby including beautiful fountains with live gold fish in it. The staff here all speak fluent or near-fluent English, the best being the bellhops. Rooms are a tad on the oldish side, and beds are hard but makes up for location and staff.

This was a very nice hotel. The service was excellent. The breakfast buffet was to die for. So much food! They has a person outside in the hallways all night so if you needed anything they were always there!

clean hotel, not my taste but on some way classified as luxury hotel......paid 768 CNY with breakfast and could use business center on 20th floor. Breakfast is quite ok. Go for the chinese food, probably better than western food. Business center can book high speed train ticket for you. Bit noise from the street traffic. Overall quite good hotel.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights while on vacation in China. We found the reviews below accurate. There is some construction going on, which we heard between 7 and 9am each morning (but so long as you're ready to get up at that time, then it's not a huge deal). If you're looking to sleep long then you should ask for a room on one of the lower floors (we were on the 15th floor and could hear the banging that was supposedly happening on the 22nd floor quite clearly)....

Aside from the construction the hotel was quite nice. The room was clean and well appointed, though the design was dated. The hotel staff was very friendly and willing to help, though their English was not as good as we've found at other hotels. Despite that they were very forgiving of our poor Chinese and were able to help us get around town.

The hotel is in a good location, considering that the sites of Nanjing are pretty widely dispersed.

We're sure that once the remodeling is done this hotel will be a gem!
