Average local 3 star hotel Tibetan owned and in Tibetan style. Used by many Western tour groups. Friendly staff on desk, but cleaning service very poor. We had one room for 3 nights, were away 1 night and had a different room for 2 more nights. In both rooms the shower did not drain properly (seems to be a general problem - see other reviews). The hotel apparently does not possess a vacuum cleaner. Even when we persuaded them to come and clean the bathroom, the carpets in the room were left untouched. Beds not made up on a daily basis.

Not all rooms have aircon (essential in winter for heating). Only one public computer working in the lobby area though there are ethernet sockets in the rooms. Adequate Western breakfast in rear block, but unlike the front block this has no lift and you must climb two flights of stairs to get there.

It takes about 20 minutes to walk to the Jokhang Temple, more to Potala Palace. Close to the muslim quarter of the old town. Useful local shops, post office etc although no good restaurants close.

If we were ever in Lhasa again, we would hope to do better.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing on street which tend to be noisy.

This is the NEW Mandala, not to be confused with the Mandala located in the Barkhor. This hotel is located on the South side of the Barkhor, across a very busy main road from the maze. The rooms were decent, breakfast was great, and a good place to meet other travelers. They are renovating the West wing, which made for some noise early in the morning. Also regularly scheduled cat fights occur at 5:30AM. Try to get a room facing the courtyard to avoid road noise. Front desk staff was very helpful and freindly.

Apparently approx 5 years in operation now, but from the wear-out of furniture looks like 10+ years.

We stayed here 4 + 1 night in total as part of Lhasa-shigatse-mt.Everest round-trip.
This is a 5 story hotel with Tibet decorated rooms; elevator available. The rooms are OK,

internet LAN available on the room - good/fast connectivity; also in lobby area 4 stationary computers, but only 1 operational; sometimes none. The staff knows this, but apparently no priority to fix....so long waiting time for people without LAN-laptop on the room.

As for the furniture (rooms and breakfast-area) and the stationary computers there seems to be no maintenance plan to fix/improve. Also the Neon hotel-lights in front of the hotel......not work.

Although the rooms in general OK, the bathroom on our room 8201 needs drainage-maintenance (water spills on toilet-room floor.

The breakfast was the worst part (bring your own fruit to complete your breakfast):
The only choice was omelet, watery orange-juice, tosti-cheese and Yoghurt with muesli;
yes there was also butter with some bread looking stuff, but to dry to eat.

In general think there is better choice around in Lhasa at same price-class.
Would look for other option, also more close to city center, next time.
