I was considering a few hotels for my weekend trip to Jakarta but eventually settled on the Morrissey Boutique Serviced Apartment due to its unique design and central location. In this regard, it did not disappoint. The lobby featured the type of organized but random design akin to establishments frequented by the hipster crowd. Malls such as Plaza Indonesia and Grand Indonesia were only a short taxi ride away. The hotel itself is situated in a back street of the CBD where other hotels are also located.

Room-wise, the design was a mix of minimalist, functional and industrial, with whitewashed walls, deliberately unfinished ceilings and wooden flooring. In this end, it did fulfill the "uniqueness" which may draw guests to this property. I had booked a studio which was supposed to be their smallest room but I found the floor space to be more than adequate.

The hotel has an infinity pool at the higher levels with a great view of the Jakarta CBD. It is especially pleasant during sunny days when the view is truly exquisite.

Breakfast was included with the room, which I thought was a bit of a let down given what I had seen in terms of hotel and room furnishings. In contrast to the sophisticated look of the property, the breakfast seemed quite simple and of 3-star standard. Not a lot of selections in the breakfast department, I would say.

Service-wise, this is where I think the hotel would need improvement. It may be that they're short-handed but I did not witness an attentiveness to guests by the staff. Also during my last day there, I had requested for a late check-out which was declined. This itself was fine, but given how it was communicated, I thought that it could have been done better or the staff could have at least tried to see if it was possible, rather than just give an outright rejection.

Overall, I think this is a good place to stay in Jakarta. If only they could up the service a bit, I would have given it a 5.

I will definitely return to this Hotel every time visited to Jakarta. The hotel is so cosy and gave me home feel whenever I am alone abroad. Simple white and comfortable hotel room, clean, peace feeling. Front office are fantastic and meet the CSR standard. Just a good location, safe and always have a peace sleep here.

The Morrissey is an excellent little hotel that is different from the standard international hotels catered for the discerning traveller. It has all the touches of a specialist architect and interior designer with clean lines and simplicity at its heart. The studio rooms are spacious, clean and equipped with the usual mod cons including a kitchenette and a plastic dog. It may not have the luxury feel of the more expensive standard hotels but why do you really need to feel plush under foot all the time? The swimming (lap) pool, green grass patio and cabana chairs on the 6th floor over more respite from the hustle and bustle of Jakarta life. The wi-fi is strong throughout. The breakfast is satisfying without the unnecessary extravagance of having 50 different options, or feeling hurried. The 3rd floor self-laundry is a brilliant idea and it is free! Food options are aplenty in the evenings - with the excellent Ocha and Bella just below (Italian and Japanese options), street food vendors, and vast Indonesian offerings a block away. Location wise it is well located, but taxis may find it a bit tricky to get to given the nearby one way roads and ongoing traffic chaos. Despite the usual ambient noise that one just has to learn to expect (call for prayer, traffic, local music ) I will definitely return.

Room Tip: A room that is higher is probably better to get away from the usual sounds of the mosque, local live...

Still amazing... Only stayed for one night for overnight, but wanted to taste a little bit of Jakarta for the short time. It is strategically located, near jalan Jaksa for international and jalan Sabang for Indonesian culinary, a lot of good restaurants and shopping malls nearby. I tried a street vendor satay in jalan sabang, and because the hotel has kitchenette in the room, I can take away the food and ate in my room. It was rather cheap and delicious. The laundrette is helpful for longer period and breakfast was great.
Agree with most of the other reviews, the swimming pool, design and furniture are the strong points of this hotel. Love it and recommend it.
But please note that the morning call from nearby mosque might disturb your sleep since the room is not really sound-proof. So does music from down stair restaurant (Ocha & Bella) for you who stay in street-facing room and need for early sleep.

Room Tip: If you need early sleep, avoid street-facing room for music from Ocha & Bella might disrupt your...

Stayed here during the weekend and booked the Studio Room. The hotel's location is good, since it's right smack in the city center.
The room is very nice, comfortable, and spacious. The kitchenette is a major plus, with electric stove & a microwave. The hotel's swimming pool is a great hangout place, although the water is very cold.
The only downside is that they don't have room service and the hotel cafe is not 24-hour. There is a hip eating place attached to the hotel, Ocha and Bella, but I find the food there a little bit overpriced. If you don't mind walking, nearby there is a very good German restaurant, Yaudah Bistro. The breakfast spread is OK, not a lot of choices, and they don't have pork bacon, but overall is alright, we had a good time. Will definitely go back there.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms away from the mosque, because the prayers' sounds can get a little bit too loud, e...

I stayed at Morrissey during my business trip to Jakarta in July. The hotel is centrally located with amazing view of downtown Jakarta from its 6th floor rooftop. Rooms are spacious and the staff is pleasant & helpful. Morning breakfast has good variety. It helps that the hotel is walking distance from shopping district and international chains like 7-11, Dunkin Donut, Starbuck etc. We were in Jakarta during Ramadan period & all the restaurants near the hotel were operating whole night long. In all it was a good, pleasant stay!!
