With the family, I went to Take's Mansion and stayed there for about two weeks. It is located in the Central Business District and not far from Sarinah Mall. Unfortunately it is also located next to one of Jakarta's nasty smelling canals. At first we were confused whether Take's Mansion was a hotel or a serviced apartment and by the time we left, we still didn't know. The restaurant was reasonably priced but however had limited meals from classic Indonesian food to the usual western food. Most staff were good but some appeared in their own little world, not that that was a major problem. We had our rooms cleaned at our request which was handy and there was a wide array of different channels on the TV for the whole family to watch. We stayed in a family room which consisted of two bedrooms with queen beds in each, a lounge room with a small dining table and a reasonable bathroom. There were six floors of accommodation with the pool being on floor six. Unfortunately the pool was under renovation when we stayed there. Given that, we may have gotten a bargain at $60 per night. In the end it didn't really bother us too much. If you don't mind eating some Indonesian cuisine, there are a few different roadside stands selling Padang food (rendang), gado-gado, chicken satay etc. but if you'd prefer to play it safe, you might want to take a taxi or bajaj to Sarinah for a more comfortable dining experience. All in all it is pretty good if travelling on a budget whilst enjoying some comforts is your goal.
