“Amazing stay with average food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 December 2013 via mobile

I stayed in this hotel for 5 days to attend a conference. Staff was very courteous, rooms were comfortable overall a very good experience.

Room service was delayed as hotel was overbooked because of conference. Food was not as per my liking as there were rarely any option available for vegetarians.

Stayed November 2013, travelled on business

We had an apartment in the residence for 2 months and it was very much a mixed bag. The apartment itself was huge, but the interior was a bit tired. It was supposed to be serviced, which is a bit of an exaggeration as our bed got made every few days, but it wasn't at all clear that any cleaning was done.

The two best bits of the sultan are that it has a great location in the middle of the scbd, and the facilities are great - there are two decent sized pools and a fantastic gym. Also the staff were very friendly and generally pretty helpful.

But the HUGE drawback came every weekend when the area just outside the hotel was used for a different festival. This was awful, the sound checks could start as early as 6am and then it was just blazing noise all day long until bout midnight. I think this would be as much a problem in the main hotel as in the residence. One weekend we had to leave and go on a trip to escape.

Overall I'd say that you need to consider if you mind having no sleep or peace at weekends if you do this isn't your place. But otherwise it's a trade off between a great location, great facilities and lovely grounds v slightly older rooms.

Room Tip: Make sure to have a room not overlooking the national stadium as the concerts there can be very nois...

I am an old school hotels lover...
I love old hotels and classic hotels..
But it is waaaay too old...
Broken taps and dirty toilet seat.... Yikes...
Currently I'm staying at room 907.

But afterall this hotel is located fairly near to everywhere I'd like to go.

Good location, so-so service, quite delicious meals, but awful room equipments.

I attended The Sultan Hotel as part of a conference package and was very pleased with the room amenities and outlook. The lobby was within walking distance (by subway with airport style moving walkways) of Jakarta Conference Center. Room service was slow. Wi-Fi and mini bar (soft drinks only) were free. Signage and in room information on location of facilities could be better for first time guests but staff were all very obliging and willing to help with any requirements.

Room Tip: Grand Deluxe rooms on Level 10 overlooking the pool are good value

The Sultan has seen its best years. The rooms are outdated and the reception was understaffed. Every time I wanted to order some food (room service) it took ages until someone picked up the phone. You should also reserve some time for check-in and -out.

On the positive side, the room was spacious and clean (I stayed on 9th floor), Wifi worked very well and the location of the hotel is superb - accessible via two main roads and Pacific Place in walking distance.

Food was "ok"!

Other hotels with similar quality and service (eg Alila) cost <USD 100 ! The Sultan is definitely not value for money!

I can't at all recommend The Sultan Hotel. There are some basics that are essential when I am traveling for business and in a large city. The Sultan failed several key areas.

1) FAIL: Internet that works 99% of the time and is fast enough to do research and Skype. The internet was sometimes fast enough for Skype but from my room almost always too slow for even basic surfing.

2) FAIL: No non-smoking rooms were available even though the only option I had at booking was to select a smoking room... presumably non-smoking is the default. Most travelers from developed countries expect a non-smoking room these days.

The signage throughout the hotel is awful. While there are some basics that are fine enough, like the location and the worn but decent rooms, but these are expected qualities in a business hotel. This just doesn't work.

Room Tip: Seems the executive/club floor is the only decent floor in the building, and even then is nothing sp...

I went to Sultan in early of November 2013 and it was nice. Although the room is a bit outdated but it is well-maintain, so everything was fine for us. I knew Sultan since I was little due to I was born and raised in Jakarta and currently working out of Jakarta. Breakfast was nice with many varieties. But, just a little suggestion for the restaurant, do not refill the food longer and kept the chafing dish empty. Overall, it was a nice stayed. I sent message to the General Manager, Mr. Nyoman, and he replied it really nicely. Will definitely go back to Sultan for next vacation in Jakarta. 5 minutes away from the shopping center, driving range, shooting range, and restaurants which is great. Nice hotel. Keep it up!
