“Nice if slightly tired property”
Reviewed 30 July 2014

I like the large rooms, however, the rooms are tired, and in desperate need of a refurbishment. However the staff were generally okay, no one seemed to go out of their way to offer any special assistance... would I come back, yes as its near my office, but that's the only reason.

For our staycation this year during Eid Mubarak holiday, we have decided to stay in this hotel. We are already familiar with this hotel as they have good restaurants with good quality food and excellent services. Sunday brunch at their Italian restaurant is superb.

As this is our first time to spend some nights here, we would like to highlights some few things:

- Bedroom; it is spacious, comfy and luxury. However, one thing that seems out of place is the TV set. It is a BIG grey BOX like the one you have in the 80's. It may be ANTIC but it is not something you want to see in this class of hotel. Everything about this hotel screams Luxury and High Taste hence the TV set is a cruel, if not sad, JOKE. Please Mulia, it is now 21st Century where TV screen is flat.

-Concierge; the most UNFRIENDLY staff I have encountered. At first, they refused to help us to arrange a transportation we wanted citing that it was not available and insisted that we had to take what they have offered. Then the excuses became so lame it got to the point that the staff were just ignorance to what the customer want ( we are NOT tourists so we know what we want and very sure that the staff are able to accomodate it ). How fustrating it was when a simple request was turned into a pointless argumentation due the staff lack of Customer Service Orientation...... Sigh

-Cashier; when checked in, we were promised to be given a membership card that would be ready by the time we check out. However, quite different than other 5-stars hotels we've been before where the card is immediately provided, the staff said that it is not ready yet and it will be given on our NEXT visit to stay in this hotel. The RUSE she said !!! My oh my.......

We have always curious about its sister property in Bali and are planning to be there in the near future hoping that service would be much much better there.
Meanwhile for the one in the Jakarta, we would limit ourselves to visit their great restaurants only as to avoid dealing with their front line staff where an extra energy is needed.

To sum up the review: it is a good place for business traveller but may not be suitable for holiday maker...... Like us.

Rooms are large and pleasant as well as quiet with comfortable couch and bed. Business center adequate with 24 hours. Pool and gym excellent. Downside to location is you cant walk anywhere but i guess that is Jakarta. Restaurants pricey but fair variety. Cjs is hoppin Wednesday night and food menu is same as other main restaurant so probably more fun to eat here alone than in the restaurant if you don't mind eating after 10 pm. What makes this hotel incredible is the staff. Super calm and friendly and attentive and observant. After working all day this is the environment you want to be surrounded in.

Big rooms, comfy bed, beautiful bath, amazing restaurants, exceptional service, incredible all round. 6 star!!! The buffet breakfast is one of the best ever and the Japanese buffet was also incredible. Definitely worth a visit. Great location and good security. Close to shopping centres also.

Room Tip: All are amazing. End of the hallway perhaps?

We have stayed at Mulia Senayan many times for the past 10 years or so. The most recent time is in July 2014. Not a single time or a single staff has ever disappointed us : the front desk staff, the staff at the lift, housekeeping staff, the staff at the breakfast area, the concierge, the bellboy, the staff at the scanning area@hotel entrance, the staff at the pool, the staff at the health centre and massage therapist. It is the warmth and initiative-taking of Mulia's staff that makes this hotel ever so special. One recent incident to share: my partner was not back and we had to check out, thinking that we only had two in-flight carriers, I could manage to take them down to the reception. The housekeeping staff (in Mulia Senayan, we usually see male housekeeping staff) , on seeing me pulling two small bags, quickly came forward to offer help. He pulled the bags to the lift lobby, without me asking him to. Of course, if someone were to look for "newness" in a hotel, Mulia Senayan may in some ways not match up to his expectation, for example, the TV which we feel really need to be changed but we understand the complexity in doing so as the mini bar and fridge will then have to be relocated too as the new TV will be fixed onto the wall, then the cupboard, a centre-piece furniture will become redundant. Some reviewers mentioned that Mulia Senayan's decor especially in the room is dated but we really cannot find any fault in its decor. The golden hue and maple-wood help to retain its grandeur and the plant in the room injects "life" in the room. The bathroom is of a good size. It has a bathtub with nice taps and standing shower too. My friend asked if Mulia Senayan provides Kiehl's or L'occitane toiletries, the only time we had Kiehl's toiletries was at L Hotel, Seminyak, Bali. We do not need such pampering but it will be nice if Mulia Senayan can change the packaging of its toiletries to provide some sweet surprises to frequent guests like us. It has been the same packaging for the past 10 years. The room size is generous. The corner ones with windows on two walls probably boast an area of 650sf while the ones in the middle are likely to be 450-500sf. This is just our own estimation. The bed is very comfortable. We have stayed in other 5 star hotels before but none has someone showing us to the lift each time we return to the hotel. Staff are trained to greet guests whenever they see the guests, regardless if the guests see them. At the breakfast area, we are shown to our seat and the spread is wider than that of Renaissance, Johor which we just stayed in June 2014. However, the display of food, I think Renaissance Johor has more innovative ideas than Mulia Senayan. Frankly, Mulia Senayan has not changed the entire display for the past 10 years. Good in a way, we always know where to get the kind of food we want, the only drawback is monotony, there is no excitement at the breakfast area. If you have the time, take a meal at the Chinese restaurant, the decor at the entrance section is very interesting. Don't miss the chocolate shop too! Mulia's chocolates are delicious! Just like other 5 star hotels, you have to pay for wifi in the room. However, wifi is free at public areas in the hotel. Don't miss the service at the health centre, they provide massage and facial for both male and female. The style of massage is that of relaxing Swedish massage. The service of the massage therapists at Mulia is first class! Well, apart from the service offered at the health club, you can go for a swim or dip into the hot jacuzzi pool. Besides the TV and toiletries' packaging in the room, I feel the pool needs some upgrading. It looks kind of "jaded". Shopping and eating out are easy as two huge malls, namely, Senayan City (newer) and Plaza Senayan are just round the corner. Senayan City has more branded goods boutiques and some familiar Singaporean eateries in its basement while Plaza Senayan has Metro. Mulia Senayan not only makes us wanting to come back for MORE, it also makes us wanting to try other hotels under its brand such as Mulia Bali which was voted as the BEST hotel in the world in 2013. We visited Mulia Bali end 2012 when it first opened but missed the chance staying there, we will try Mulia Bali one day and to Mulia Senayan: we will be back!

This hotel was outstanding. The decor, staff and restaurants were outstanding. I was there a week and enjoyed every minute of my stay. This is a very well run and organized hotel, and would stay there again in a heartbeat. The only issue with Jakarta is the traffic and there is not much to do in the area of the hotel. Highly recommend the hotel.
