“Poor Value for the Money”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2014

This place knows how to cater to the local markets who do not know better. To be honest, will never set foot in this place with the outrageous prices sometimes exceeding the genuine Japanese restaurants in Jakarta Little Tokyo or Sushi-Sei. This place misled customers to believe sushi greatness is in the sauce or the fried stuffs inserted into them while in fact real great sushi requires NO sauce. High turnover means the fishes are fresh, but fresh is not enough for sushi. It must be high grade. This place simply does not provide high grade fishes but charges like it does.

“Over-rated and poor services”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 June 2014

Good urban metro deco for the modern eaters, especially if you like fusion cooking and dare to be subject for food experiment. Despite the good ratings and reviews, this is one place that Japanese do NOT go to. Sushi Tei is more Western-Chinese wrapped in Japanese presentation.

Upon entering, the floor waiters and waitresses shout their welcome greeting in very impolite manner. The chefs working behind the bar are all local Indonesians and they too shout mockingly. The local customers even the seemingly more international NGO workers, business people, and rich families don't seem to mind. Thus I conclude it is the norm here.

Regardless how friendly you may be, the service people never smiled and cold as ice. Order-taking process is similar to dining in cheap Chinese hawkers, you gotta say what you want firmly and no questions asked, they write down repeat the order as formality left you and if you're lucky they will remember to bring your drinks. They occasionally forget your drinks. Perhaps that is why Japanese do not come here. If you don't mind extra interaction with service people and like the challenge to ask for quality service, it's a great place for you!

The cold or hot green tea drink is free and you can ask for refill, that's a plus. No WiFi, and phone signal is terrible, so do your appointments before entering. No rest-room, but there's one outside within 1 minute walking distance. The AC inside is very cold, ladies need to bring extra clothing. The noise level is very high, and very interesting to witness the amount of chattering between customers sometimes overwhelmed by the amount of shouting between service people. Families that bring babies to malls is a normal view in Asia, so be careful when you walk in the tight corridors.

Most of the food are fusion, more Chinese than Japanese. Don't expect "fine" tastes and quality. The customers here are crazy with the burn mayonnaise. The noodle or ramen sets are quite filling, and the salad bowls are recommended. I got stomach cramp several times after eating here. May I advise take extra precaution with the seafood or raw menu--best to avoid them. The sashimi pieces are cut irregularly, and many of the cuisine will cause sore-throat. Most of the food especially deep-fried chicken cutlets in ramen sets are very oily--very unrecommended for overweight people and those with cholesterol. Kani Mentai on day one can be very different on day two. Beside the irregular amount and shapes, the freshness of the ingredients is what puts me off.

Despite the many floor staff, acquiring service is a challenge. Billing process is very slow, so you might want to ask for it early.

Walked in with a Japanese family and everyone in the family including the children couldn't eat a single thing. Walking out, we again heard the very impolite shouting.

After writing down some productive suggestions for improvements for half a year, and after kindly explaining them to the floor supervisor, I give up. We shan't be eating at any Sushi Tei in the world ever again.

“More than average”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2014 via mobile

Delicious, but not the best. They have outlets in almost every shopping centre, so it's quite well-known. Some put it as a standard of others sushi in town.
