After believing reviews here and elsewhere stating that it is a good restaurant with great atmosphere, we went there expecting a memorable meal. When I arrived, the building was beautiful with traditional architecture, and that impressed us immediately. However, it was downhill after that. Much to our surprise it was a buffet lunch with no ala carte menu, and the variety of food was limited with a poor mix of Indonesia satay, Chinese spring rolls, tempura prawns, Chinese fried rice noodle, tasteless soup, .... What a disappointment! When we looked around, it was only a group of Chinese tourists from one tour coach eating. The place was obviously catering to tour groups on cheap budget and an inclination for boring food! It tasted below average, the drinks were expensive, and the overall food quality scored 3 out of 10 at best. Granted the service was attentive and two rather bored Indonesian musicians played traditional music, the atmosphere was flatly touristy. When the bill came, it was expensive at USD$35 for two, based on Yogyakarta standard. By the time we paid, we were the only two persons left as the tour bus left, and the musicians looked most restless and perhaps upset we stayed on a little longer. This was absolutely a waste of time, a trap in a traditional palace building. I would rather skip lunch and eat snacks along Jalan Malioboro. Tourists beware!
