We spend 2 nights in Melia Purosani recently.Hughe room, nice and clean.Altough it was raining all the time (it was the right season for that....), we had a fantastic time there.
Staff very friendly and professional, marvelous breakfast and perfect location, an oasis inside the center of the city. Thanks for a memorable stay.Perfect relation quality-price.

I will start with the good news. We had a great time here. We arrived Christmas Eve, met up with some family living in Australia and a fun three days here. The location is excellent, the pool is nice, the staff are mostly friendly and helpful and the breakfast was pretty extensive.

So what's my problem? The room we stayed in was falling apart and really not befitting a hotel of this stature and size. It might serve as a useful period piece in a film set in the Suharto era during the late-70s! The furniture is falling apart at the proverbial seams; we had a socket hanging out the wall, with wires for all to see.

To add salt to the wounds, we were charged an incredible $30 a night for an extra bed for my daughter. We stayed in several hotels/guesthouses in Asia during this trip and this was the only place that charged us extra for a bed. Also, the bed, like the room, was falling apart. It was all frayed around the edges and in real need of replacement. Disgusting really.

I actually loved the quirkiness of the place, though it was Christmas and we were all too happy in that to think too worry too much about the state of the room and spare bed. But I wouldn't recommend it to other people. There are several decent hotels in Yogyakarta - this isn't one of them!

I thought the Melia Purosani could be OK as usually Melia are on 4-5 star level, but this one is definitely not OK:
- very old, not renovated at all
- rooms are old, windows are not good and you hear every little noise from the street (and yes there is noise!!! I could not sleep at all)
- and old carpets that smell strangely
- furniture that is out of fashion since some decades
- staff does not speak english with very few exceptions
- front desk staff unfriendly and arrogant (very unusal for Indonesia)

But I must also say that one manager on duty helped me to get my cereals they did not have on stock and he even went to town to buy them - very impressed, but this was an exception.
Besides that the hotel is really not to be recommended for travellers who have certain expectations...

At least it is cheap, so if you don't mind all above you still can try it....and the location is good, in the centre of the city (the main reason I chose it)

I will definitely not return, and must say am still surprised a Melia hotel is on such a low level!

Great hotel located in the center of Yogya just a few minutes walk from main street.
Probably the best hotel in Yogya.
First of all beaqutifull garden with swimming pool area (pool not so big) is making a great impression. Also the lobby area is very nice and made us very happy for our choice.
Room very comfortable with big bed plus sofa and working desk, nice and also big bathroom (all amenities). After arrival we had a call from hotel spa with offer of 10 minutes free massage in the room, so we decided to try :).
Another very good opinion comes from the breakfast - firstly very nice restaurant and seating area in the garden where we had a privilege to enjoy amazing breakfast with huge choice of international dishes (also indonesian, chinese, japan...ect, ).
Really hotel is very good and highly recommended. :)

After much searching for an hotel in Yokyakarta, on the strength of reviews for the Melia Purosani, I booked a 4 night stay here - I was not disappointed.

The hotel location is fantastic (walking distance to Malioboro Street & easy to get public transport), The room was immaculate (tasteful & modern with great firm beds), No complaints about the breakfast (plenty of choice), staff (friendly and efficient).

The hotel itself is not cheap, but I would regard it as value for money, on the basis you get what you pay for. You have to remember this is regarded as a "Luxury" hotel.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to go to Yokyakarta, but not on a tight budget.

If I was returning to Yokyakarta, it would be my first choice of hotel.

Had a wonderful time at the Melia. We saw a few other hotels in the area and the Melia seemed to be situated in the best location. Hotel is probably the closest to 5 star you will find around. Staff were very friendly and the service was impeccable.

In the evenings there is a live band playing jazzy songs in the lobby and pub. Buffet breakfast in the morning is quite good with a large assortment of food.

Highly recommend this place!
