We recently stayed at The Phoenix Hotel in Yogyakarta and can recommend it. The hotel building itself is beautiful. Service was excellent and very friendly.

Food prices are reasonable and the food is truly delicious, drinks are relatively pricey. The hotel offers a wide range of international and Indonesian dishes, breakfast buffet was comprehensive.

Our room did not face the pool but was nice enough, not too big, not too small, and had its own little balcony (however only with one chair). Design of the room is stylish, but not overly. There's complementary water bottles, a minibar and facility to make coffee or tea in a mini pantry.

The hotel's location is OK. It's in the main city area, but not near any particular site. It is about a 15 min walk along a busy street to get to some major sites and Malioboro street. There are trishaws available outside of the hotel. The hotel pool looks beautiful but is actually quite small, more to freshen up that to do laps.

The spa was very good and reasonably priced.

Conclusion: Fine hotel, would stay again when in Yogya.

We stayed in the Phoenix hotel for 2 nights after arriving in Yogya. An excellent location, nice and clean room, good service and extraordinary breakfast. When we came in our room there was an extreme noise from a vent ouside of our room in a neighbouring building. We complained about this at the front desk and asked for another room. The hotel was fully booked but a new room was arranged for the second night. Later that evening the vent noise stopped and it did not happen again, so we stayed in our room which was excellent.

We stayed only one night: it was a must see! Loved the atmoshere and the breakfast is unbelieveble grand. Pickup from airport went really well. Would stay again. Nice also to have the inhouse tour about the history of the building.

This hotel is very nice but the restaurant is mediocre and overpriced. Across the street is Madame Tan's restaurant which is very good and more reasonably priced. The concierge service only advises you to use the hotel's private cars and drivers - really unacceptable concierge service for a 4- star hotel. Much better service is available from the Yogyakarta tourist office where everything that is available at the hotel is available at half the cost (in addition to many very reasonably priced tours). Why the hotel is unable to help you organize such tours is difficult to understand. The hotel is not located near anything of interest to tourists so you have to take taxis everywhere (they are not expensive).

Room Tip: The hotel is near a mosque so be prepared to be wakened at 4:30AM by the call to prayer unless you u...

We stayed here for a couple of nights while we were in Yogyakarta, loved our room and the hotel complex. The pool was perfect and the service couldn't be faulted at all. The staff at the front desk were incredibly helpful and went out of their way to help out. The restaurant and bar staff were incredibly friendly as well! I would totally recommend the Phoenix.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the pool!

The hotel overall was ok, nice room, ok bathroom, nice pool, good breakfast (a little expensive). The worst thing is the staff. First we arrived at the hotel at 9:45 am (because of our plane). When we arrived both rooms were ready, but they didn't want to allow us to check in except if we paid an extra 30 USD per room….I though it was just ridiculous (almost half the cost of the room) so the girl told us the room will be available only at 2 pm. So we've decided to wait in the lobby and start sleeping on the couch (we were so tired because of the flight). An hour latter the same girl came and decided to give us the key to the rooms…..Weird. If the rooms weren't ready or if I was asking for a latte check out…I would understand…but both rooms were ready and they prefer have us waiting and sleeping in the hotel lobby…..for an hotel that is supposed to be a high class….not sure.
Finally, it's in a weird neighborhood, a little far from restaurant and Maliboro street….Took us 2 hours to go to Borobudur. And on that point….don't reserve with the hotel….reserve with a local taxi or the hotel next door (Santika) They have better price (half price ).
