This seems like the type of resort frequented by the same guests and old timers through out the year. However, as my boyfriend and I were looking for a last-minute place to stay for the weekend, it was our first time at the El Galleon and were comforted by the warm reviews.

BAD IDEA.

The moment we got here, the friendly staff informed us that the poolside room we booked via Agoda was no longer available so they would be transferring us to their budget room (room 5) for the first night. The trade-off would be letting us stay in their "Sea View" Room (room 2) for the last night of our stay. We agreed as there was no choice.

The budget room had a horrible bathroom with a leaning sink and broken shelf that would cause anything placed on top of it to fall directly into the toilet. But, once again this was fine since we would be transferring to their suite the next day.

The following afternoon, I approached the front desk and it was clearly written on their office board: "ROOM 5 MOVE TO ROOM 2". The girl was nice and said room 2 was ready with the key and we could transfer. Housekeeping staff fetched us from our room and took us there, which was a definite upgrade from the budget room.

After a few hours in white beach, we return to room 2 find all our things gone. The aircon was on and someone else was clearly taking a shower in our bathroom plus a new set of bags were strewn all over the floor. Slightly peeved, we leave quietly and approach the front desk who decided to move us once again to a third room by the pool.

Without even an apology, the staff informed us that "these things happen all the time, even in our 5-star Waimea residences". we were expected to understand that Agoda bookings were of the lowest priority at the hotel.

Not a single apology was said by either of the staff members, and it felt as if we were treated this way just because we aren't one of their regular customers. Don't ever stay here!!!!

Let me preface this review by saying I booked this place as a last minute getaway for the weekend and I'm not a diver. Maybe this is where I went wrong. So if you are a diver maybe this place will appeal to you.

The best part about this place is the staff. They are super super friendly and helpful. Now to the negative stuff. The rooms!!! They rooms are OLD!! The aircon unit in my room was probably close to 30 years old. I'm not exaggerating. It was very very loud and barely put out any cold air. The rooms are dated as well. This place could use a facelift that's for sure. The food here was not that great either. For the prices, they need to either start putting out a better product or lower the prices.

With all of that being said, if you are a diver you will probably like this place if you are just looking for a cheapish place to stay and don't care about aesthetics or the food.

The place is well maintain, clean rooms, nice bathroom and the food is just excellent for a very moderate price. Staff are very nice.
it is not a place for party it is a place to relax between friend or family.
A bit away from Sabang girly bars it is very quiet and if you dive at Asia divers it is just the next door...

Stayed here over the new year period which was great as it was very lively and loads of people to meet.

We found the rooms quite basic though and we were expecting more for the price. Maybe it was high because of the peak time of year but we had much better value elsewhere throughout the Philippines before and after this. The rooms were clean though.

We only ate at the restaurant a couple of times for breakfast as it was quite expensive. We found the Big Apple restaurant in Sabang itself much better value.

Overall I think the area here is not that great. There are much better places to dive e.g. Balicasag near to Panglao island and if you are coming here to chill out then White beach a bit further along the coast is much nicer and much much better value for money.

The hotel has rather larg territory including pool, restaurant, bar and own pier. Personnel is very friendly and helpful. Bad thing is inside rooms. They are equipped by old air conditioners and fridges, so all time you have to hear that terrible sounds. It's obvious that capital repair was long ago.

Great dinner... Reasonably priced, massive meals so if you are hungry... Come here...

The menu has a wide variety but we felt like Italian and we had a vegetarian pizza cooked as good as I would expect on Lygon st in Melbourne and a Seafood medoly fettuccine along with a chicken korma just because we could....

Staff were very very good... Took out orders promptly and with a genuine smile.....

Then there is the view at night time with the lights and lapping water ...

Definitely recommend after a long day diving...

I've been to another "high end" resort there as well as in other destinations in the Philippines. This resort rates right up there at the top and is very professionally run. The rooms are situated around the property and I had the Seaview room directly above the restaurant area. Very clean and comfortable.

The food was very tasty, a large variety on the menu, and great service.

II was particularly impressed with the dive ops management. Everything was located on a large (and the only one in PG) elevated dock and the access to your dive "locker", rinse tanks, gear set up, hanging racks, and the boats is exceptional. The staff insisted that you don't touch any of your gear after you ring it from your room and all of us (12) took advantage of this.

I highly recommend you consider El Galleon first!

Room Tip: Choose a poolside room if you don't like to climb stairs.
