“awesome music festival”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

The Malasimbo Festival is a yearly music festival every first weekend of March. Awesome fun! The very natural set-up at the foot of the mountain was just amazing :)
From the White Beach main road, there were jeepneys that went directly to the festival entrance area. You can actually purchase your tickets at the entrance booth, but it would be better if purchase it ahead online (there's a bit of a discount).
In the future maybe, I would want to climb the actual Mt Malasimbo, not just to attend the festival.

Beautifully situated garden, with natural grassed amphitheatre to accommodate the crowds. Interesting art installations and wonderful palm trees. Great vibe all round.

“Malasimbo Music Festival”
Reviewed 11 March 2014

If you are in the Philippines in late February/early March, do yourself a favor and head to Mindoro for this festival. Set in a natural amphitheater where the property owner (and organizer) of the festival has had steps cut into the inclines that focus on the stage. With environmental art installations and lighting, the space couldn't be more dramatic or well-suited to the task.

“Woodstock to Space Odyssey 2013”
Reviewed 5 March 2013

"The Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival is the first international music and arts festival of its calibre in the Asia-Pacific. It is set amidst the tropical gardens of Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro, Philippines; truly one of the world’s most enchanting backdrops for a festival. The festival grounds is situated on the foothills of the majestic Mount Malasimbo where its most prominent feature is a grass-terraced amphitheatre that overlooks the bay, renowned as one of “The Most Beautiful Bays in the World”." says the festival website.

Truly an understatement. I cannot for the life of me forget in the dark of night the sight of a huge white ball lit in yellow light perched seemingly precarious on the grassy slope of Mt Malasimbo. My eyes riveted to the ball in the hope or fear of any movement. Ah... such is art. Evocative and arresting. And i'm talking about the least of the artistic expressions to be seen, felt or heard.

With the hundreds of festivals celebrated in our country yearly please attend this event so you may describe the full sensory overload of the experience. I am still overwhelmed.
