The location of Papa Fred's is very good, overlooking the bay. The restaurant was under renovation when we visited. The hammering was disturbing and the lack of good fans somewhat astounding. We were the only customers at the time of our visit and would have expected more attentive service. Papa Fred's offers a good selection of decently priced German beer. The food was average. While the portion size of the penne arrabiata was good, the sauce was too mild and very oily. It is also unusual not to provide any Parmesan cheese with the pasta. The set menu with the pork medaillon was poorly executed. The soup was average and the salad very basic. In the absence of bruschetta, we got garlic bread drenched in oil. The pork was tender and the roesti golden brown. However, the sauce was heavy and the veggies totally overcooked. The desert included local chocolate and vanilla ice cream, which was so,so. The espresso again was excellent.
