I booked myself to F12 (the budget room in front of the front office and near the pool, no view) for a week's stay. I've decided to write a review on my second night because I love it here! I've been visiting Sabang for 3 years ever since I got my open water cert and I've stayed in the other hotels around town. I've found my perfect crash pad!

Reason 1 - bedroom:

F12 is classified as one of the budget rooms and it's also the cheapest. It has a mini kitchen with 1 induction burner, 1 rice cooker with steam basket, 1 microwave, 1 ref, 1 hot and cold water dispenser, 1 multi cooker/electric kettle, plus the necessary kitchen tools and cutlery for 2 people. The set up is adequate for a steak dinner, grilled cheese sandwich and other simple meals (i'm also a trained chef) the induction burner is quick to heat up so you don't have to wait.

The queen bed is a quality spring coil matress with thick pillow top on top of a box spring so it's firm and comfy after a day's worth of tech diving. The sheets are crisp and soft as well. 2 polyester filled pillows are nice and fluffy with enough give to prevent a stiff neck.

The bathroom is basic but adequate with a nice heater that heats the water quickly. The sink is small with no counter space but this doesn't bother me since i just hang my toiletry bag somewhere.

The room has a 32''tv with cable with hdmi cable so you can hook your laptop to the tv if you want, a nicely functioning ac unit, a hairdryer (stored on the closet), and the best feature of all that a lot of hotels don't think of, a power strip for guest use! This is the first time I've had this provided out of all the places I've been to!!

Reason 2 - room location:
Even though I don't have a view, I'm just in front of the office where the security guard hangs out at night, and being a solo female traveller, I feel safe knowing he's there.

Reason 3 - staff:

Staff are friendly enough and they handled my requests immediately - take note I'm here during high peak. The manager, Ray, even lent me his umbrella this morning during a downpour.

Reason 4 - location:
I'm just about 10 steps away from the beach or the pool, and the hotel's location is perfect, away from the rowdy main area of sabang while being close enough (about 10 mins walk) to buy groceries.

Additional info:

Just in case anyone is super sensitive to noise, F12 IS along the pathway towards the back of the hotel where the swankier rooms are so I hear the people passing through. Also, the staff hangs out on the patio outside of the front desk if they're idle so you'll here them as well. There's also a yappy dog somewhere nearby. BUT!!! ALL THE NOISES STOP BY 10PM so no need to worry about not getting any sleep.

Also, just be aware that this is the tropics so there will be ants. Generally the red ants only bite once of twice but if you're allergic, ask housekeeping to spray all outlets and floors before you go to bed. I woke up this morning with ants all over my laptop and power brick... my laptop was beside me in bed... no worries though I only got bit twice with no itchy bumps...turns out they were living inside the wall sconces but housekeeping got rid of them with bug spray.

Overall, despite the ants, I'd stay in this room again since I don't need the view because I'm out diving all day anyway.

We pre-booked just two nights at LaLaguna Villas but were grateful we could extend and upgrade for a further 12 nights.
This place is a real gem, an excellent place to holiday.
Firstly, the location is amazing. Small LaLaguna Beach is a sandy beach in a great location, just the perfect distance, I think, from the lively village of Sabang , My partner thought the 7 mins walk along the beachside path was very romantic.
For our first two nights we stayed in the original LaLaguna Villas before upgrading to a new luxurious villa higher up with spectacular views.
The original villas were really close to the beach and ours was very well-appointed with lots of new things. We then upgraded to a new luxurious villa with spectacular views. The few extra stairs to climb was no problem for the enjoyment of the great apartment and awesome vista.
Both the original and the new luxury villas had really high quality fittings and fixtures, like the brand new fridge and the big new TV, best of all was the big new air con and the really comfortable bed, all beyond what we expected in the Philippines. Everything at LaLaguna Villas was of better quality than the standard... like the big soft new towels, linen napkins with meals, new outdoor furniture with new cushions - even the fitness room had top quality machines (hopefully the builders have finished the new gym room by now).
We were disappointed the new pool wasn’t finished yet but an army of labourers were working on it every day, we swam and snorkelled off the beach and used a pool close by.
The area is fantastic for diving, both in quality and price. Good dive shops and boats are close to LaLaguna villas – we used Action Divers who taught us novices well. We're going back next year.
We rented motor scooters in Sabang and loved exploring the area beyond Puerto Galera because the traffic was relatively light.
Food – there’s plenty of restaurants nearby however you’ll find the in-house dining just as good . I have to give Bernie the chef a big plug, I won’t forget his unbelievable gourmet BBQ’s or the marinated local-fish dinner, his Filipino breakfast were also a real treat, in fact he couldn’t do enough to please us... at anytime, day or night.
We’re now hooked on diving and definitely going to stay at LaLaguna Villas next year. (Thanks to the staff for making our stay so memorable)

Warning - when leaving the island don’t be late for the ferry!

Pros.
1. The room (executive suite) - very very nice. Great view, tidy inside, big, nice tv etc. Cost about 5500 per night for exec suite, with additional vat and credit card charges.
2. Location - its on little laguna beach, which I would highly recomend vs staying in Sabang properly - its about 5-10 minutes walk along the beach path, so get a porter if you have a bag, but its easy to go into town and a little quiter.

Cons. Unfortunately - Everything else.

- Facilities - there isnt really anything - no pool, no restaurant, etc, which is something all the other places have. Whats worse is you can see next doors' 2 pools from the room so you know what you are missing!
- Access. Its down a fairly dingy set of alleys, and the place looks like a construction site. There is some limited noise from this.
- Security. A group of friends turned up unnanounced at 2am (which was fine), but the security guard (if he was there) just let them through without any questions.
- Steps. The nice rooms are all up a lot of steps. Fine for me, but anyone unfit would struggle.
- Booking/Payment. First I had issues using the online booking system to pay a deposit. And then on the last day, their credit card machine didnt work and they had no back-up. I spent an hour running around with them trying to find a solution, nearly missed my boat and left without paying, I then had to make a special trip to a local bank to put a cash deposit into their account. Simple basics of a hotel, make it easy for people to pay.
- towels - skungy looking old brown towels, they didnt smell fresh, and one fell apart and covered me with brown fluff after a shower. I was left looking like a grizzly bear.

Over-all, there are lots of good places to stay, I'd be reluctant to go back, even though the room was very nice.

Room Tip: Ask for the executive rooms with balconies, but only if you are happy with steps!

James makes some fair points, but I need to elaborate on others.

Location: We agree the location is far superior than staying within Sabang. But no porter is required, our staff will meet you and carry your bags.

Facilities: our pool is under construction, as disclosed on our website; when complete it will be as good as any in the region. In the meantime we provide a complimentary shuttle service to use the excellent pool at Coco Beach resort. (A similar-sized room "next door" with inferior amenities cost an extra P500/night.) We have no restaurant as we are surrounded by several, and offer an extensive room service food menu.

Access: agreed, and will be completely upgraded when construction plans are approved.

Security: James is mistaken. We take security very seriously, with 2 night guards and 1 daytime, backed by CCTV. On the night in question, James returned to the resort with his 3 companions at 3:12am; names and IDs are recorded in our logbook.

Steps: True at present, but our plans include an elevator. We have very nice Beach Villa rooms at the front with minimal stairs.

Payment: There was a problem with the on-line booking system, which was fixed within hours of James report. Nonetheless we accepted his booking without deposit, despite being our last available room at Easter. Upon checkout, unfortunately our local bank was off-line, affecting all their users. We should have simply taken James' card number and processed payment later, but as we had no deposit our staff were incorrectly overly conservative. We do accept Paypal, which would have been an easy alternative.

Towels: The large brown towels are brand new, high-quality pure cotton; apparently, they should have been washed a few more times before using, to remove any fluff. We provide 2 such bathsheets and 2 conventional sized (fluff-free!) towels per bathroom. Sorry Yogi. :)

We do hope you will consider us when next you visit the area, at which time I am sure you will find no repeat of the problems you noted.

Myself and my family stayed at Lalaguna Villas soon after management parted ways with the neighbouring Out Of The Blue Resort. Although our room was physically located on the Out Of The Blue side of the fence, the room itself is owned and managed by Lalaguna Villas. Expertly run, these guys have taken the best parts of Out Of The Blue but raised the bar to an even higher level. LLV management pays attention to the little, but important things, which made our stay an absolute joy. We traveled to the resort as a family of four with two teenage kids and enjoyed every moment of our stay. The resort is well located, close to Sabang (about a ten minute pleasant beach walk) but far enough away from the hustle and bustle. We enjoyed some great snorkeling at nearby Big Laguna beach (about a five minute walk) and hired a small boat to enjoy even better snorkeling at Coral garden (about a fifteen minute boat ride). We also spent a day at White Beach and our boat driver took us to a few private beaches along the way, just beautiful. I highly recommend a trip to Puerto Galera, and especially Lalaguna Villas. This resort is still a yet to be discovered gem with a very bright and promising future ahead...

This is my second stay at Lalaguna Villas and the changes and improvements I experienced on this occasion were great. I stayed in a one-bedroom Villa which boasted magnificent sea-views and a delightful sea-breeze. The booking and check-in procedures were prompt and efficient, the staff were waiting to greet me upon my arrival and whisk me to my Villa with minimal fuss. The quality of the appliances within the room are excellent. The attention to detail the management provide made my stay more than comfortable. Upon speaking to the staff I was informed that the resort is under development with plans for a swimming pool, gymnasium, day spa and even more Villas. I am already looking forward to my next stay here!!
