We were visiting our family in Manila and I knew we would need to schedule some getaway relaxation time. PG was an easy choice. It was a mere 1.5-2 hour car /bus ride to the Batangas Pier, then another hour via boat to PG. Check-in was a breeze. Our room was lovely, and the view, spectacular! We had a wonderful seafood lunch at the hotel and just enjoyed chilling at the beach. Les and Jackie, the Hotel Managers, were just so gracious and helpful all the time!!!!! On our way back to our room, we mentioned to Jackie that we were thinking of going kayaking. By the time we passed the dive shop, our kayaks were ready! Now that's service! We spent the next day hiking up the waterfalls, visiting the Mangyan Village, kayaking, and walking to nearby White Beach. Day 3 we hired an outrigger to take us to some good snorkeling sites (I saw a sea turtle), see other beaches (I liked Aninuan's beach better) and see an underwater cave. Very Cool! There was no shortage of adventures and I was always glad to go back to my beautiful room at Sunset. On our last night, the owner, Lexy, graciously joined our group and shared her stories about PG and Susnset's humble beginnings. What a treat! Sadly, we had to go back to Manila the next day. Thank you, Lexy, Les and Jackie. Thank you also to our wonderful local tour guide, Salih Hazel. We shall return!

Room Tip: Stay at the new wing!

We spent a few days here whilst visiting our family in the Philippine's and were impressed with the service and care shown to us as guests, the menu was a a bit limited as we stayed in the resort in the evenings. We took a snorkelling trip to see the coral reef and enjoyed a BBQ lunch otherwise stayed in the resort. When we arrived the waves were large and we enjoyed the surf but there was a bit of an undertow.

Room Tip: Look for a sea view room close to the restaurant and beach, avoid the rooms closer to the road as they can be a little noisy.

An amazing place. Great rooms, great atmosphere, great staff and a great view. The place has a very nice furnishing and finish both inside and outside. The views from the hotel, not only at sunset, is quite brilliant. It is indeed exclusive, but honestly that is nice as it means there are always amble space in the bar and the restaurant. We stayed in the new wing in room 221 - a big room with a huge balcony facing the pool and the sea. We were there for new year celebrations and a great party with a band was arranged perfectly. Diving from the resort is Ok, snorkeling same - but the dive shop (which has great equipment at nice rental price) can arrange for diving all over PG. Our children loved the place and we will return. simply the best resort in Puerto Galera.

Room Tip: The new wing is quite excellent.

I agree with previous posts that resorts are free to make their own policy. I believe the policy of "exclusivity" is to prevent non-resort guests of taking advantage of their facilities. Exclusivity has its advantages, for one, they can focus their resources to their guests and assures you there is always a spot in the bar for you to sit on, a table in their restaurant or a cabana for you to sunbathe on. Perhaps the resort does not need the extra income it can earn from serving food and drinks and does not want the additional hassle of tracking who the guests are from non-guests. I can understand snobbery to non-guests but there is always a nicer way of expressing this. But as a guest, we would have expected to be treated no differently but unfortunately, we noticed that there was a differentiation in their treatment between local vs. non-local guests. Although we have no complaints and are very happy with the amenities of the resort, we left with a feeling of slight heaviness because of the what we noticed.

We stayed at Sunset earlier in the year and had a pleasant stay. Nice staff and good food made up for average rooms. While recently staying at a friends villa in the area, we stopped by to say hello to the bar manager and ordered several drinks. A pause, raised eyebrows, and then a dismissive gesture suggested all was not well. Sitting in an empty bar and restaurant area, we were told non-guests are not allowed to order drinks and were asked to move on. An awkward silence followed. We then left...to be honest a bit stunned. I respect the right of a hotel to set whatever policy it chooses, but question how the message was delivered, especially to former guests. Based on above experience, would not stay at Sunset again or recommend to friends. Simple things matter. And treating former guests poorly is not great for future bookings.
