“Very cozy and friendly”
Reviewed 27 March 2014

Chose this place because it was ranked #1 on TA and was not disappointed. The amenities are basic but very cozy. The hotel is located on a quiet street, and the courtyard/lobby area is very welcoming, with lots of lush plants, a fish pond, talking parrots and comfortable chairs. The rooms are simple but clean and comfortable. There is an area downstairs where you leave your flip-flops, which is a nice touch and largely prevents the typical problem of sand spreading throughout the hallways/rooms.

Don't expect any luxury - this is not a resort; it's not on the beach, it does not serve food and drinks, and the AC does not work during power-out periods (like 95% of El Nido). However the owners Virgie and Eddy are extremely friendly and welcoming, and always strike the right balance between chattiness and not invading your personal space.

As an added bonus, the building is made of concrete and seems very sturdy compared to some of the beach front accommodation. We stayed there during Typhoon Yolanda; although El Nido wasn't hit too badly, we didn't know what to expect, and some of our friends ended up leaving their hotel on the beach to stay here, where they felt much safer.

Will definitely stay here again if I return to El Nido.

We stayed four nights at the Bulskamp Inn. Eddy and Virgie were amiable and helpful hosts. They gave us a map, suggested sights to visit, arranged island hopping tours, and directed us to a woman who did our laundry.

They did, however, require half the room price in advance, something we studiously try to avoid. But, because we showed up when we said we would, it worked out fine.

And, when we ran short of cash at the end of our stay (there are no ATMs in El Nido) Eddy let us pay our balance the same way we paid our deposit, with PayPal.

El Nido is spectacularly beautiful, but the town is just an overgrown village, so there's nothing fancy here. Electricity goes off between 6 am and 2 pm.

The inn is clean, sturdy, basic accommodation. Rooms are small; the bathrooms are the smallest we've had in our six months in Asia. Strictly one person at a time, but they work fine. The shower curtain, rare in Asia, is essential here.

There's a small covered garden on the ground floor with a koi pond, hammocks, tables and chairs and two mynah birds who speak several languages. Each room has its own table and chairs outside the door. You will spend some time in these pleasant outdoor places because the WiFi, as in most Asian hostelries, doesn't work reliably in the rooms.

You can get the rooms with fan or air conditioning. Our opinion is that they are a good value with fan, not so much with AC. Then again, we were there during a cool spell.

Service is excellent. Our rooms were cleaned every day and the outdoor areas are spotless.

The Bulskamp Inn is a bit away from the main drag along the beach, with its restaurants and bars, but because El Nido is so small, noise carries. Between bars, motorcycles, church loudspeakers, karaoke joints, dogs and roosters, you'll be glad of your earplugs.

We stayed here last week for three nights The room was very small and also the toilet. Not far from the market so its quite peaceful during the night. The owners are very strict that they ask you to wash your feet first before going inside to your room or they ask you to place your slippers outside. Before I forgot to mention, the room itself is not so soundproof that you can hear the people's conversation outside and they don't have a hot shower. Overall,it was okay.

We stayed here for two nights and we were so lucky they had a vacant room! Perfectly located just of the bar street, near the evening market and really, really clean. We had a double room with a little porch, the room was not very big but big enough, the bed was nice and the bathroom simple & clean. If you go to El Nido, check if Eddie's got a free room!

I showed up with a friend who had made a reservation for a single occupancy. There was no problem to take on the empty bed in the room.
The owners have been amazingly friendly and helpful wherever they could throughout my stay in El Nido.

I stayed here recently for a couple of nights. The location is great, at the far end of el nido town on a side street off the main road so it is nice and quiet. The rooms are reasonably priced and very clean. Overall a recommended place to stay.

Stayed here in December for only 1 night but was very happy with our stay.

Room and hotel: all squeaky clean! The room was spacious and comfortable with all the basic things you need and more.

Service: really great! On the day of our check out, we had planned to go island hopping before leaving for puerto prinsesa that night, they were nice enough to keep our bags and on our return they were nice enough to let us use their clean shower room for free and even had towels for us.

Worth the price and would recommend!
