My wife and I stayed with our 18 month old toddler and 72 year old father in law and had a great time at taiyo. Naoko was very friendly and helpful and her and her staff went out of her way to make us feel at home. The resort has a very large garden and swings for toddlers so it was really great. Also gave us baby cot and let us borrow motorbike if we had to zip into town for lunch or massage etc. They'll also take you to edge of town in tricycle as part of service too!
Highly recommended if you have small kids and want to get out of town. Only comment would be that the menu is not extensive and kitchen is a bit slow when cooking lunch or dinner, but that might have been because we were there in off season.
Thanks for making our trip to el nido so memorable!

We decided to stay at Taiyo based on a recommendation by a friend who had stayed there a couple of times before. The resort is run by Naoko, an incredibly energetic Japanese lady who will bend over backwards to ensure that you enjoy your stay - despite her advanced age, she was always first up in the mornings and last to bed in the evenings and runs a very tight ship.

The resort is very peaceful, being a 15 minute beach-front walk away from the town centre. It has a well-kept garden complete with palm trees and papaya trees which gives directly onto the sea shore. If you want to go island hopping, Naoko has her own boat and a highly competent and friendly crew. She can offer reduced rates for boat tours providing there are three or four of you on one boat (she will help pool together guests staying there). In town most tours were advertised at 1500 PHP, whereas we paid only 900-1000 PHP each. We did tours A and C, both of which I would highly recommend. The crew provided a substantial lunch and also took kayaks with them for us to use at no additional charge - they were happy to accommodate our requests and ensured we were comfortable when the weather took a turn for the worse!

If you don't want to go on a tour, you can borrow kayaks and snorkeling gear from Naoko free of charge and head out straight from the beach in front of the resort. From there, you can reach some nice beaches on your own steam - most of them only 30-40 mins away at a steady pace. A tasty packed lunch was available for 250 PHP per person - good value for money.

Breakfast at Taiyo was included with the room price and was highly substantial. The staff varied the menu from day to day, which generally included toast, eggs, bacon, tea/coffee and fresh tropical fruit - a great way to start the day, although it would be even better if there was freshly brewed coffee available rather than instant.

Overall, I would highly recommend staying at Taiyo for those visiting El Nido. It is certainly not the most central of locations and there are no doubt more luxury resorts around but the place has loads of character and the staff are incredibly warming and will go out of their way to ensure you have an enjoyable stay!

Room Tip: The Kayak rooms (K1, K2, K3) and other rooms near the sea front get more light and are more modern t...

We travelled to El Nido in March and arrived after a long trip from Puerto Princesa. We took Cottage 1 .... Spacious , clean, quiet.... Lovely deck overlooking the gardens and hammocks. Our first evening , we were tired and hungry and decided to eat dinner at the resort. Our meal of fresh fish, rice and salad with calamansi picked fresh from the tree was by far the tastiest meal I had had anywhere. We wandered into town to check things out and realized that although it is a great little town with lots of activity .. People, shops, restaurants, we were happy to have the quiet of being outside of the main town. The walk in and out of town was quite enjoyable and we came to recognize many of the locals on our daily walks back and forth. Over the nine days we spent there, we spent four days on Naokos boat, touring islands and swimming , snorkelling, exploring, eating , relaxing and making new friends. The many islands in the bay are spectacular and I highly recommend the private tours with Naoko and her amazing staff! You see the other boats going out with 10-20 people on board. Two of the days, Naoko had the captain and Frederick and Eric take us out on our own while the other days had one or two other couples on board. Beautiful barbecued lunches and lots of input into where we wanted to go and how long to stay. We took the kayaks out on two different days and kayaked across the bay to a beautiful little island that we had to ourselves.
Naoko is an amazing woman... Up working around the yard at 5 a.m. and never stopping till late evening. She is a very wise woman with a love for the people and the land of El Nido. She has taken an overgrown piece of waterfront property and developed a paradise. She has endless supply of energy and knowledge and goes far beyond the call of duty to make your stay spectacular. Don't miss the bonfires!

The resort is located out of town. You can walk to the center of town in half an hour. Getting your bags to the resort is tricky because the road to the resort is a tuk tuk path along the beach. But once you settle in you will be well cared for. The level of service we received was extraordinary. Naoko, the owner arranged everything for us and even called us at our next hotel to make sure everything worked out. She accompanied us to the bus at 5:30 in the morning. Wow. Food was good. Location was excellent. Rooms were simple and adequate. The area is gorgeous. Do watch out for the jelly fish.

As many of the guests who have written their reviews previously have said, we also stumbled upon this place and what an incredible find it was.

The owner, Naoko, is a wonderful host. She was incredibly friendly and helped us with all of our requests. From recommendations of dive companies to use (SeaDog Divers), lifts to town on the tricycle and the use of complimentary kayaks with our stay it was an absolute pleasure.

The resort isn't in the main town, but I would say this is a definite advantage. The location is unspoilt (unlike the main town that feels a little touristy) and is round the headland to the south of town (look right if you look out to sea from town), it is not accessible by car or jeepney and only the occasional motorbike or tri uses the path that starts at the beach outside a few bars to the south of town.

Taiyo/ Caalan Beach Resort is the last resort along the path…persevere, it doesn't take that long to get there (10mins from town) and it's a lovely walk once you've got rid of your bags. You pass a cemetery on the left hand side and will meet lots of locals as well as passing a number of other resorts along the way.

We were travelling with another couple and stayed in Green 1 & 2 (on the first floor with great views). The rooms, although basic were clean and had an incredible view of the sea. The balcony connected both rooms with a lockable door, which meant that we could chat, enjoy a beer with our new found friends and watch the sun set.

Naoko, really is incredible. She will often surprise you by bringing out a couple of beers when you're relaxing on the sun loungers after a 'hard' day!! Little touches, really do make a big difference. Use of torches when we went out in the evening, umbrellas for the infrequent downpour and snorkelling equipment were all really great too!!

Another great feature of Taiyo is the different places to have breakfast. Theres an indoor area, which caters for bigger numbers but there's also a few tables dotted around, so you can have your delicious breakfast outside.

The property leads straight on to the beach, which is incredibly quiet and a really good starting point to go for walks along the beach front (away from town).

Naoko also arranges boat trips for you to take as well as suggesting where to go if you take the kayaks out. We paddled over to Cadlao Island with a superb lunch Naoko had prepared for us.

All in all couldn't really fault the resort. Prices were very reasonable for what you got in comparison to town but the really gem, aside from the incredible views and setting, is the host!!

Room Tip: Green 1 or 2 - Spacious rooms with a superb view and a connecting balcony if you're travelling w...

The rooms are very spacious, and the one we stayed in had a big balcony with a great view. The property is big and has direct access to the beach. They have hammocks scattered around which is also fun. The best part of the property is the owner, who is a funny and nice Japanese lady, who makes your time there an experience and makes you feel looked after. The food is okay, but they are nice and make sure you get something to eat if its too late to go into town. The cottages are a long way inside the town though, and you can only get there from the main road on foot or on special tricycles.

We had a good time staying at Taiyo village and will definitely want to stay there if we go to El Nido again.

What a lovely stay :) We booked one of the basic cottages which has a spacious bedroom, bathroom, aircon, an extra room for bags or whatever, a beautiful porch and private garden.
The breakfast is nice: coffee/tea, eggs, toast and fruit.

The owner is a lovely Japanese lady who makes you feel like a special guest.
All the staff is very friendly and helpful too. When you ask, they will pick you up in town when you arrive and on your way back the same story.

One of the best things of the resort is that they have their own boat, which is a really comfortable, big boat.
You can do all the tours from the resort and the prices are cheaper than all the other tour operators in town. They make sure you have a good lunch as well! and you are always with a small group, which I prefer.
We did Tour A, which was beautiful, but the most populair as well... so expect a lot of tourists. Another day we went to helicopter island with the private boat and spent the whole day snorkeling, kayaking and chilling. The resort prepared a packed lunch for us, which was very good (rice, fish, chicken, salad, fruit, dessert and coffee/tea/water/beer). A day in paradise :)

We really liked the location: not in El Nido town, but a lovely 10 minute walk through a cute little village along the coast. You have your quiet time at the resort and if you want more people around, you can easily walk to town for dinner or a drink (bring your flashlight as the road does not always have light). Though it felt all very safe.

I would say this is the best place to stay in El Nido if you want to avoid the crowd and like a friendly, homely feeling.

Thanks for everything!
