“A welcome refuge”
Reviewed 9 March 2014

We stayed three nights at Hibiscus Garden, and found it to be a pleasant refuge from otherwise unremarkable Puerto Princesa. The town is a jumping off point for other places on Palawan, and has few sights of its own, so hotel location is not critical.

Hibiscus Garden is a bit out of town, but near the airport, which probably matters more, and offers free airport pick up and delivery, a good benefit. The center is a 20-peso tricycle ride away; the intercity bus terminal should set you back 100.

Hotel buildings and vehicles are clean and well maintained, and the grounds are well-tended. There is an open air restaurant, but breakfast is not included. The rooms are arrayed around an informal garden. Each has its own table and chairs as well as a hammock just outside.

The rooms are spacious, but the lighting could be better. The beds are comfortable, the AC strong and the bathroom functional. Service is attentive and helpful. Rooms are made up every day. Prices are a tad high for what you get, but not outlandish.

As in most Asian lodgings, WiFi is weak and only really works in the hotel lobby.

If you have to lay over in Puerto Princesa, you are unlikely to find a better place to do it.

This was one of the nicest places we have stayed in. Rooms were immaculate, beds comfortable, nice TV's and decent Wi-Fi connections.
Bathrooms were spacious with hot water for showers. As an added bonus, they had the refrigerated stocked with water, beer, soft drinks, etc. Prices for these was minimal. Staff was wonderful and customer service was excellent. The breakfast choices were all good and plenty to eat. They arranged our Underground River tour which we enjoyed. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose a bigger room. It's worth the extra $15.00

Stayed here for 1 night before we had to catch a flight the next day.
The rooms are big, clean and convenient.
There is a Big garden in the middle between the rooms and every room has its own hammock and chairs.
The staff is very friendly.
Breakfast was very nice as wel!
A tricycle to town is around 20 php.
Very much recommended!

This is a really a nice place to stay. The staff were very friendly, room was huge and hammock outside was ideal. The surrounding settings were picturesque. Well priced and good proximity from the airport, would definitely recommend staying here.

Good food at the restaurant - must try the prawn dish.

Rooms were decent and affordable. we planned to only crash for the night before taking off and it was worth it.

Very helpful staff. Truly enjoyed our stay. Convenient as it is very close to the airport (7 mins)

Best Regards,
Renuka & Tirthadeep

I stayed longer than orginally when previous plans fell through. Most people stop a night and then head out to other locations. I had a 4 night stay and was quite happy hanging out in the lovely gardens, swinging in the hammocks. During the day I had a couple of day trips (the Underground river is well worth it, but book in advance) and then come back and relax with a drink in the gardens, chatting to fellow guests. Great service from friendly staff and they can organise trips and your on-going travel arrangements. Food was also very good (wood fired pizza oven!), and they were flexible around serving early breakfast, depending on when your day begins. Hibiscus is not in the main PP area, but in a quieter street, close to the airport. There are a number of nice places to go for dinner and drinks within easy walking distance. There's good wifi too.

This is rather late review but I still remember how wonderful our stay was at Hibiscus Garden in July 2013. It's our first visit to Puerto Princesa and choosing this quaint and quiet accommodation over more known or costly hotels in the area turned to be a good decision. Located some 5 mins from the airport and about 5-10 mins trike ride from downtown, Hisbiscus has 14 rooms, all in one level, with a garden in the middle. We stayed in a Queen Room which was very, very spacious with its own pocket garden. The room had basic amenities like cable TV, mini bar, ref, lounge chairs, day bed, in-room safe, hot and cold shower. Linens were clean and fresh. There are also hammocks on the corridors and tables and chairs outside your door where you can have coffee or simply relax and read a book. Make sure to put on mosquito repellant before enjoying outdoors.

Staff are remarkably friendly and very helpful, accommodating. The young GM, Joy, who's family owns the place is super nice, and can easily strike a conversation with her. The hotel has one restaurant. They take your orders for breakfast the night before and asks you what time you want it served. If you have a tour planned the next morning, they will do their best to have your food ready before your pick-up time or you may have it packed instead. Food is also good. Service excellent.

I only have good words to say about Hibiscus. If we were to take a vacation again in Palawan, I still would like to stay in Puerto Princesa just so we can stay again, just even for a night at this place. It really is a home away from home - in its true sense.
