Astoria Palawan, although at it’s soft opening, impressively provided us with comfort, tranquility, bliss and a very strong sense of nature that is more sufficient than what we were expecting. While we can speak highly about the overall quality of the facilities we enjoyed here (well designed room, infinity pool, relatively fast internet connection, food…) we particularly highlight the courtesy and good intentions of all staff that assisted us. It is very noticeable that they are well mannered and professionally trained. They understand customer needs and anticipates it whenever possible.

Astoria appointed Island Getaway to take care of our travels around Puerto Princesa and we were not disappointed. Maricel and Rael represented Astoria and their agency so well that we highly recommend this “riding in tandem” tour guide to family and friends who will visit Palawan in the future.

We were able to enjoy Astoria Palawan because of the timeshare we bought a year ago. Comparing this purchase and the posted price of the accommodation at this resort, the math simply indicates that this timeshare is worth it. Plus, the discount on meals as part of the entitlement is well appointed. We were able to save roughly USD 1,000.00 worth of accommodation this year and I would never complain on an exquisite meal for 3 at less than USD 20.00

We are happy to enjoy the worth of our Astoria membership and we look forward to more of Astoria Palawan in the future and the rest of Astoria properties that we are entitled to experience.

Note:

San Raphael is quite far from the city proper of Puerto Princesa. Astoria is for those who wants seclusion and it is an ideal place "just to stay." Arranging for travel through the hotel may be costly but exclusive for the arranging party. An option is to arrange for Puerto Princesa tour before coming to San Rafael. This also includes securing permit for the underground river days before the desired date of visit.

I did not expect to see a very modern, yet rustic resort in Puerto Princesa like Astoria Palawan. The rooms are big and the colors they used for the beddings are happy colors like yellow, orange, blue which was a nice touch to the all-white wall of the rooms. It was so nice that I hardly left my room.

Astoria Palawan is a new resort located at San Raphael. It is more than an hour from the airport and is quite a secluded spot so make sure that you have all you need (supplies, cash, meds) because the city is an hour away. A van rental to the city costs Php2,800 one-way.

We were disappointed in our stay in Astoria. We were not informed of the soft opening that weekend. The owners and invited VIP guests graced the occasion. There were only about 3-4 other paying guests, including us, in the resort. The restaurant menu was very limited to paying guests but buffet spreads were prepared for the soft opening for the owners and their guests ONLY. We were not expecting to be invited to the festivities, but to totally ignore that there were other paying guests at the hotel reflected badly on the owners and management. The local staff (kudos to Paula), however, was accommodating and efficient, and was unfortunately just following directions of the owners and management.

The resort has potential – the rooms are beautiful, spacious and well decorated. However, there is not much to do at this point since only the swimming pool is open and the beach is nothing great. You may want to visit when it’s fully operational and the owners and management have improved their PR skills.

Dear Grace,

Thank you for taking time to write about your recent stay at the resort. It is unfortunate that
during the opening weekend of the resort, you felt neglected by management when it came to the 2 days we had the Senators and the VIP media at the resort. There was a letter that had been created to inform all in-house guests of the private party and that the pool area would be closed for this exclusive event. It was meant to inform you in advance so you wouldn't be inconvenienced during the party.

We apologize for the miscommunication that transpired between our staff and your family. All the in-house guests were actually invited by the owners to be a part of the welcome dinner and the lunch the following day, but were to just let the VIP invitees go first at the buffet table. It seems that after your review came out, only then did we realise that this information to join the buffet meals wasn't communicated to you. Our staff had failed to relay the message to you primarily due to the amount of guests we had, especially on the Sunday lunch. Again, we apologize for this hiccup on our part.

When your reservation was made, it was clear that the resort would be in it's soft opening stage, as that's what is indicated in the website. And this is why the rates we charge are discounted rates, because we know we are not fully operational yet. We opened the resort and the rooms including the restaurant, the gym, the game room, the pool and beach volleyball area. We also offer kayaking, massage services, tours to the underground river, island hopping in Honda Bay and city tours within Puerto Princesa City and the playground for children by the beachfront. What has yet to be completed and finished by the 1st quarter of 2015 are the climbing wall, Waterpark, putting green, glass bottom boats and acrylic kayaks.

The transfers to and from Puerto Princesa and the Underground River averages 2000-2500 on private vans. The rate of Astoria at 2800, is very competitively priced and is good value, as it is a bit farther away to San Rafael.

And as it is with most resorts during their soft opening period, we apologise for the lapses on our part and hope that you will give us the opportunity to make things right. Please send an email to jtanjangco@astoriahotelsandresorts.com with your contact numbers so we can communicate with you direct what arrangements can be extended to your family.

Thank you and we look forward to hearing back from you soon at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely,
