I have been to Boracay around a dozen times since 1986 and I know the best thing about it is White Beach (the beach itself and the activity in the area). So I was never attracted to the Shangrila because it is remote from the White Beach and the price. So when I had the opportunity to stay over the weekend with my wife, I knew I had to have a very open mind and make the best of my stay here.

The resort is at the north end of the island so the transfers from and to the airport is necessary as part of the package. Upon arrival, we were immediately met by a team from the hotel who whisked us away from the other passengers and handled the retrieval of our baggage themselves. A van then brought us to a private lounge located beside the main pier reception wherein we were provided with juice drinks and given time to refresh. Afterwards, we boarded a private speedboat that took us to the resort after a 15 minute ride.

The resort itself is huge and sprawling. There are two wings, around four floors each. We stayed at the south wing in a seaview suite. The room is 99 sqm ; around 30sqm for the bathroom; which includes shower, toilet, tub, two sinks, sufficient closet space for your clothes, and a dressing area. In addition, there is a jacuzzi in the veranda outside the room. I understand the deluxe rooms are around 60 sqm in area without the bath tub and jacuzzi. On the other hand, the villas have their own private pool.

There are four restaurants in the resort and we ate at three of them (except at the Italian restaurant Rima). Overall, the food was very tasty although it took a around an hour for our main dish to be served at the Sirena (seafood restaurant); which was surprising considering we ordered a set menu. The breakfast buffet at the Vintana was extensive and varied and we really took our time eating there in the morning.

There are two beaches at the Shangrila but the waves are rough compared to the calmness of White Beach. Instead, try the swimming pools which are inter-connecting to each other and are facing the beach. In addition, there is an entertainment area wherein your can play billiards, ping-pong, and a variety of arcade games. Unfortunately, we were not able to try the spa.

The resort is extensive so they provided their guests the option of being driven around by a golf cart. There is also a shuttle service to the White Beach (D Mall) which was convenient for us because we still wanted to go to that area.

Although the resort is pricey, the accomodation, facilities, service compensate for this. If you've been to Boracay several times already, it is would also be nice to stay in some place in the island for some private time and this would be the Shangrila! Contact directly the resort: http://www.shangri-la.com/en/property/boracay/boracayresort; as their rates during the off season are much lower.

Room Tip: Off-season rates are 50% off for locals

My girlfriend and I spent 3 days/2 nights and it was simply lovely. We are used to visit Boracay as an escape from work and we decided to stay at the Shangri-La to keep us away from Boracay White Beach.
Everything from arrival at the Caticlan till our departure was great. We were look after and really pampered.
Room had an awesome view (South wing) and was loaded with everything we needed.
The two private beaches are not as nice as white beach in terms of sand but this a small inconvenient to deal with as you are kept away from vendors who wants to sell you sunglasses and watch!
The only problem was the high number of Koreans guests at the breakfast buffet (they disappear just after the buffet and come back after dinner) so you better go there late.

Room Tip: Book in the south wing or a villa!

If you are planning to visit Boracay, i highly recommend Shangri-La's Boracay Resort and Spa. My family stayed at the resort for three nights and four days on the third week of February, 2011 and I would like to say that the resort is "first class all the way!" When you arrive at the Caticlan airport, just go directly to the Shangrila Resort guest/information center and the staff will take care of everything from there on. There will be a short boat ride from the airport to the resort. After registration, we were informed that there is a shuttle bus that takes guests to Boracay beach and D-mall. The bus also picks up guests back to the resort. We decided to go to Boracay beach first to find out how it is. The main Boracay beach is crowded with tourists, locals, and vendors. Boracay beach is extraordinary with exquisite white powdery sand and soft to walk on. But because of the crowd and abundance of tourist whisperers(vendors) we decided to remain in our resort in our entire stay.
The Shangri-La's Boracay Resort is a blend of modern architecture design with Filipino cultural heritage theme in it. The main lobby is out in the open which uses reflected light from the sun using less electricity during the day. The beaches in the resort are not as good compared to the Boracay beach because small pieces of shells and corals can be felt when you walk along the beach. But i'll choose a less crowded beach anytime of the day. There are two beaches in the resort. If you want to swim and have some refreshments, then choose the beach where the infinity pool is located. They have a bar which serves all kinds of drinks. A complementary breakfast was included in our stay and the vast variety of food being served is unequaled. Our room was clean and well maintained by the staff with flat screen tv and modern bathroom fixtures. The staff made us feel like we own the place. Like what the ex-governor of Californication, Arnold says: "I'll be back."

great stay overall. with 2 private beaches; one with pool and amenities and the other bare I enjoyed the latter for 3 days consecutively swimming in crystal clear waters by myself. guests generally prefer the other beach which is smaller and had the amenities. fantastic pool, great rooms, service and the complimentary shutlle to white beach and the mall is a definite plus. will be back.

Room Tip: higher floors have unobstructed seaview

Shangri-La Boracay is by far the best hotel resort in Boracay. Despite it's high price tag, the experience here definitely delivers. Boracay itself is such an excellent destination and Shangri-La even takes it to the next level.

The check-in experience is absolute luxury. You are picked-up at the airport by a shuttle to a lounge area by the pier where you are whisked away by a speed boat to the resort itself. You are picked-up at the pier by the front office agent who will escort you to your room/villa and do the check-in there! The communication between the departments were so effortless that it just gave guests the hassle free experience!

The rooms are probably some of the best that I've stayed in the phillipines. It's so comfortable and spacious that you may not want to leave it! The attention to detail in the room and its service delivery from housekeeping is absolutely impeccable. This is the first resort that I've seen that gave hair bands for ladies as an amenity in the bath room! The balcony is also impressive and I highly recommend booking a seaview room. The sunset and sunrise cannot be missed!

The resort itself is such a treasure with excellent maintenance of the grounds and its pool area is clean. The staff are so accommodating that they tend to anticipate your needs before you even think of making them! You'll find yourself in an engaging casual conversation with the staff which just makes you feel so at ease in the resort. Chi spa is absolutely exception with your own spa villa and the treatments/massages are so relaxing that it definitely puts the cherry on your beach vacation!

Shangri-La is quite far off at the northern point of station 1. You're far off from the main white beach which is compensated with the shuttle service that almost runs every 30 mins. However, with such a great experience in the resort, if you're looking to do some RnR, the resort does its job and no need to go to station 2.

If you're looking for a great family vacation and a relaxing stay at boracay. Shangri-La is a must. However, if you're looking to do the Boracay experience of partying by the beach, it's better to stay at station 2.

This resort is absolutely highly recoomended on my books!
