“Poor service, terrible management and overpriced dangerous food”
Reviewed 24 September 2011

PROS:
It's 2,131 km away from now that I am back in Shanghai.

CONS:
4 of us in our group tried the 385p buffet consisting of a variety of tired seafood and pasta dishes, a pork/chicken station and a lettuce leaf bar. At 8pm, (about half way through typical dinner service), the food intermixed from spoon sharing, and some dishes empty entirely. The salad bar is old iceberg lettuce and some very very tired condiments -- again, many empty (no egg or tomato) -- carrot shavings mixed with sprouts etc... The seafood was not anywhere near as fresh as nearby competing buffets (such as the cheaper Bamboo bar), and the pork was dished out for the 4 of us in minuscule portions.

Understanding that buffets are always hit or miss, we decided to suck it up and just drink more (drinks not included in buffet), and do some karaoke with some of the other dining guests. So we are presented with a binder of songs -- english, tagalog, chinese and korean.... we select some songs in korean, chinese and english.... the korean songs had no subtitles/lyrics since they did not have a font loaded and the operator could not fix it -- so we downloaded lyrics on our 3g phone for song. 2 tables started singing together -- and it was surprisingly quite fun -- we ordered a 3rd or 4th round of drinks and submitted the next round of songs -- and then disaster....

The moment our next round of drinks arrived (expensive) -- and without playing our songs (or the other guests songs), they turned off the karaoke, and started a powerpoint presentation for a staff party welcoming the owners son to the island! So staff took priority over paying guests, and we were given no option but to leave out drinks and leave -- along with ALL the other guests in a funny, non coordinated mass walkout.

Amazingly bad judgement on OneMGM staff -- a very poor experience. As the 3 tables of guests all walked away, we all grumbled with each other about how bad their restaurant/buffet/service/bar was.

WARNING: I guess it was fate, later that night, 2 of our guests who ate the seafood buffet had stomach cramps and sickness for the next 30 or so hours.

“the worst buffet in Boracay”
Reviewed 1 February 2011

This is an update to a review that I wrote at the beginning of my one-month stay in Boracay. That review is posted under the hotel of the same name, as TA did not have a listing for OneMGM restaurant. I should admit a bias – generally I do not like buffet dinners. But this buffet is the worst in Boracay and the most expensive. And they just increased the cost from 300p to 385p (though this may have been because it is now Chinese New Year week). Other buffets, including Bamboo next door, and most of the other buffets in Stations #1 and #2 are 250p or 275p. And the selection of food, including seafood, is far better elsewhere. They also have the nerve to charge a 150p fee for leftovers on your plate. My suggestion: avoid this place.
