“Best hotel we've ever stayed at anywhere in the world!”
Reviewed 8 January 2012

Tanawin is simply heaven. We stayed there for 6 nights over New Years 2011/12. The rooms are amazing, HUGE and fully serviced with great views. Our room had an amazing spa, high end appliances, gas stove and flat screen tv. The rooftop pool and bar/restaurant area is simply breathtaking with 360 degree views of Boracay.

The service and staff and impecable and always happy to help out. Room service and meals are great and very quick too!

We would not stay anywhere else on the island. It is so quiet up on the hill with no crowds and super cosy and with a free shuttle down to the beach and back, it suited us perfectly.

The living spaces are huge and bed was the best we've ever slept in. We have traveled all over the Philippines and the world and Tanawin ranks at #1. We will be back for sure.

Modern and spacious yet flawed apartments. BAD BITS..... Whirlpool bath didn't work (couldn't even fill with hot water despite (broken) promises to repair) No ironing board or washing machine (in fact, absurd notice banning such activities within the apartment) The most uncomfortable, inappropriate living room/ dining area furniture. The ratan (intended for outdoor use) sofa was truly appalling. Grossly inadequately equipped kitchen for self catering (missing crockery, glasses, pans etc) No dishwasher. Ant infestation in kitchen reported twice and poor response, problem evident throughout our stay. Master bedroom, full length window only had thin linen curtains so no light reduction whatsoever although privacy not an issue. Towels poor quality, too small and more 2 star hotel than luxury apartment. Standard of cleaning poor, long black hairs evident throughout the apartment upon arrival, bathroom cabinet full of dead flies. DVD player only plays region 3 discs. Despite printed breakfast menu selections, reality was only cold egg, bacon and toast available. Very basic, free, non ac, shuttle transportation only ran every 2 hours - any journey required outside of allotted times incurs a 200 pesos charge. The steep hill leading to the apartment is generally too much for the local mototricycles and a very scary incident on the first night, when we almost overturned, ensured that we stuck with the shuttle service thereafter. If you have a problem climbing numerous, oversized, high steps this place is definitely not for you. GOOD POINTS....Nice pool area, great views across the neighbouring golf course to the sea, free reliable internet, cosy, inexpensive pool bar, friendly staff, back up generator, efficient air con.

The property is not on the White Sand Beach of Boracay, which is a positive as far as I am concerned... It is near the kite surf beach of Bulabog. The views from the east and west sides and the roof of the property of the property are amazing (among the very best of the entire island)... Note that the property has a shuttle that runs about every 2 hours during the day to Station 2 (D-Mall) of the White Sand Beach. The shuttle is available for private hire too... Note also that renting a motor bike in Boracay is expensive so you will be kind of tied to the shuttle or need to walk about 2km to station 2... The property's facilities are very nice (construction, design, fixtures and furniture). Each unit has a full kitchen. The views are very nice especially the higher up in the building you go. There is a road that runs in front of Tanawin (east side) so if you are in a 1 bedroom unit East Side, you will have some road noise and privacy issues.... East side above the 1 bedroom units is private and has nice views. The west side 2nd and 3rd floor units are private. The 1st floor of the west side is on the same level as the pool cafe and pool so compromised privacy but still has a nice view and is quiet. The staff are nice / honest and try to please. The food quality is average except for the BBQs they have 2x a week, which is good. They could improve the quality of their food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) to match the quality of the property. Tom, who is like the manager or assistant manager of the food service component is a super nice / service oriented person - he is a good guy and will take good care of you... Note that you can save $ if you rent for a week or a month. If you rent for a week or month, you also have to pay utilities, which run around 15% of your rental. It is a boutique type property run by a British lady who is nice, flexible and creative. The property functions like a condo/hotel so there are separate owners of each unit, which can delay pricing and rental decisions. I have stayed at this property for about 45 days over the last 12 months. It is my #1 place to stay in Boracay and represents a good value. I have spent 120 days on Boracay over the last 12 months staying at about 8 different places and can tell you this is my #1 choice. Just know that this property is NOT on the beach and NOT on the white sand beach. 90%+ of the visitors to Boracay never leave station 1 and 2 of the white sand beach - so, you need to be comfortable not staying where every one else is staying... One other thing to be aware of is that Tanawin has a great view and is a popular stop for many tourist arriving in coordinated groups on off road vehicles who walk up the steps of the property to the roof of Tanawin to take pictures and enjoy the 360 view of Boracay from the highest point on the island - this impairs slightly your privacy but I do not feel this is a material issue... I highly recommend Tanawin. Attached are some pictures of Unit 11 - the East Penthouse, which is just under 200 sq. meters.
