This one star review should be prefaced by saying that there were no issues at all with the cleanliness, service, location, or food at Fridays - all of which were good or better.

We stayed at Friday's for a 3 night break starting 21st February. On arrival, a number of men were standing in the pool next to our bungalow erecting a tarpaulin stating "Private Property - No Trespassing". Over half of the resort was fenced off with planks and corrugated iron and patrolled by security guards. Pictures are attached. No mention of this was made at check-in, nor were are enquiries met with anything other than embarrassed shrugs by the staff.

We were able to discover in town that evening that Friday's is currently facing a landlord/rent dispute and a court order for repossession has been issued. Some reviews below allude to this. When we returned to the resort in the evenings we were aggressively challenged by a number of security guards demanding to know our room number. Police were in evidence at the beach throughout the entire day.

Given that (i) our bungalow was truly excellent (despite being right next to the Philippine equivalent of the 38th parallel), (ii) it was a short break, and (iii) we had prepaid in full - we elected to stick it out. I can't say it was a bad mini-break because it wasn't - Boracay is truly wonderful - but I shudder to think how anyone arriving from a long journey from Europe for an extended holiday/honeymoon is going to feel. Not good.

When checking out, we were not offered any kind of explanation or apology other than 'this is a surprise to us as well'. We left an email address to allow for further correspondence from the manager. Three days later we were sent appeal documents recently submitted to the court. To add insult to injury, the documents allege that Fridays has been forced to reduce its room rates by 35%. *We* were charged in full, of course - 300 USD per night!!!

My partner had been to Friday's numerous times over the last 14 years. It was my first visit so I am not hamstrung by sentiment. Unless you have a real hankering to experience East Berlin, SE Asia-style, I recommend avoiding this place like the plague. Score breakdown as follows:

(1) Cleanliness, service, food, lacation (90%); less
(2) Condition of property (-40%)
(3) Lack of explanation/apology (-20%)
(4) Rubbing salt into the wound by sending official documents that deep discounts were being offered (-20%).

Overall score - 10%. One star.

Firstly, a few things about the White Beach, Boracay. It's like Chaweng Beach in Koh Samui, Thailand, and even better. You're avoiding the noice of the horns of taxis and tuck-tucks and commercial activities that take place on the main road.

As for the hotel, it is definitely in the best part of the beach (Boat Station 1). It's among the top hotels in Boracay taking into account how old it is. Other hotels of similar quality are much newer. Hower, this fact does not make Fridays any worse.

The staff are very friendly, professional and helpful. They are always ready to please you.

The buffet nights three days a week offer the best food we had eaten on Boracay.

We stayed for two weeks in a premium room, which was good value for money. Just a few steps from the beach.

The hotel had offered us a free airpot transfer, which was extremely helpful as coming from and going to the Caticlan airport is slightly complicated.

True, there is some noice coming from the construction site, as a hotel is being built next to Fridays.

Definitely, we would love to come back to Fridays, especially when the construction is over.

My husband and I stayed in Fridays in the early 90's. There were not any cement buildings in the area then just open air bamboo type hotel like Fridays. It was and still is a magical place.the employees are very friendly and do what ever it takes to make your stay a pleasant one. They watch your valuables on the chairs while we frolic in the water. They straighten and arrange our towels and clothes on our chairs. They turn down our beds each night. Fridays has not changed but the greedy local land owners have barricaded some of the resort because of a dispute with the hotel on rent. Which is illegal. So the hotel is fighting it out in court. So the hotel offers clients to stay elsewhere until matters get resolved. Yes Fridays has seen some better days. It is a throw back to the natural made resorts that made you feel you were happily shipwrecked on a beautiful tropical island. Our suite has a jacuzzi tube with a beautiful bathroom with a large and spacious bed room. We get a daily message in our bottle of our room of the daily activities. Yes some the area of the resort could use a bit of an up keep. however, there are not many of the eco-lodges left on this island. The local government has allowed too many cement buildings/hotels crammed amongst each other along the beach. It has turned into a a town like Kuta in Bali or South Beach in Miami. Lots of restaurants and bars line the beach. It is sad to see the change that 20 years has done. Most of the sand is gone. So when there is high tide people are limited where they can walk. It is too bad to see that the local government has not limited the development and kept it more of an eco-tourist place. The land owner has allowed an ugly cement, monstrosity of a hotel to be built right next door to Friday's, blocking the view of a third of the rooms. The local mayor/land owner is horrible and greedy man who thinks they can bully a publicly traded hotel chain like Friday's. I wish them the very best in their fight against local corrupt officials who call themselves public officials.

Located at e top most of white beach. Its less crowded and quieter side of white beach. Perfect beach setting for couples.

The room is spacious and the bed is comfortable. You have to expect the room gets a little sandy though all because you are at the beach. Other than that. Fridays is located well for couples to wants a good beachfront location, comfort and privacy.

I could not have asked for better. This resort is located on station 1 with the ocean right outside your doorstep. The beach was beautiful and spacious. Noise was minimal. Yes, the resort is not perfect, but no resort is ever perfect. This is a great place to relax and soak up the sun.

Transfers: we paid for transfer from Kalibo. Round trip transfer arranged by the hotel was about $40 round trip for two. This transfer takes about two hours, depending on traffic. Be aware that you will be on a crowded bus for about 90% of the transfer. Caution: on the transfer back it was dark and we were told we were going to be walking knee deep in water once getting off the boat. Men were waiting to carry us off the boat and did a lot of haggling to get each one of them a tip. We weren't expecting this and had ran out of small bills. They didn't stop following us until we came up with more money.

Rooms:
we were In deluxe room 19. One queen bed and one single. The queen bed has mosquito netting that comes in handy. The beds are very firm. There is a safe, but it's not mounted into the wall. There is a mini fridge. The AC works well. We did have a problem the first night where the AC did not work, but the staff took care of that the next day. The hot water in the shower ran out pretty quickly on our first two days, but once we informed staff, that was fixed as well. They do not provide an iron. They will press your clothing for a fee. Housekeeping will come twice daily for cleaning and then turn down service. The room always smells like flowers! The biggest problem was that you really don't have anywhere to store your clothing. The closet in the bathroom only had a few hangers and looked dingy.

Restaurant:
Breakfast was included in our room rate. They offer a set breakfast menu with different options to include a Korean, Japanese, Filipino, American, fit and trim, and continental option. We tried all of them and they all had a variety of items. They offer fresh fruit juices with breakfast that are a must. Lunch and dinner items are good, but not excellent. You have a variety of options from pizzas to pasta to salads. Happy hour is the best. From 3-6 you can get 2 for 1 cocktails. The Friday night buffet is an event you must enjoy while you are there.

Extras and tips:
- Internet is spotty in the rooms. Best place for fast internet is by the bar and beach.
- Excursions are cheaper if you go out the beach and ask any of the men walking around. You can always negotiate better prices and the initial price is usually half of what the hotel charges.
- go to Jonah's and get a fruit shake. (Located by Willy's rock)
- the easiest way to ATM is to walk to station 2 on the beach and once you see the Astoria hotel, walk behind it and take a right. The exchange rates at the hotel are not good. You can find better exchange rates by D'Mall.
- you will need a lot of tip money. Denominations of 50, 100 and 200 pesos will do

Now go and enjoy what Boracay has to offer!!

We just left resort and had a wonderful time. However people should be aware when we woke up today there were 15 police and an equal number of security guards on the beach. The only explanation that we were given was that they were having a "conversation". Apparently there is some type of land despute. I should note that we never felt threatened in any way.

Now with the good things. The staff are an absolute treasure. The best that I ever encountered at a resort. Virtually every single 1 was polite and helpful. The food was good not amazing and the rooms were a little run down but being on the white sands beach was great and you just can't beat it.

It was a little annoying that upon checkout they insisted on charging us for bottles of water not used. Considering that we woke up to armed guards, police and half the beach blocked off, you would have thought they would have done some complimentary things for the guests. Overall it was a very positive experience and I would definitely go back to Boracay but might consider a different hotel.

Friday's was great! It is located on the beautiful white sand beach. It is close enough to town to walk or take a short tuktuk ride. Very nice to have the peace and quiet when you want it but also easy to get to activities. It was also nice to have the whole family in one room - 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Saves money and good family time. The staff were great too, they always remembered where you like to sit on the beach and what you like to drink.

Room Tip: We stayed in a premier room with beach view. It was great because our room was on the one story side...
