“If being beach front is the main thing that matters and you don't care about the bathroom...”
Reviewed 8 December 2012

To take my summary upfront: If being beachfront is the only thing that counts and is blinding you from everything else and you do not mind a bathroom which appears to be 20-30 years old, with fungus between the tiles and cracks in the silicone and the ceiling and paying for all that more than 100 dollars a night, then this is the right place for you...

Ok, first the positive aspects:
- Beachfront although no sea view except for maybe two rooms...
- own sunbeds on the beach, free beach towels
- the mango shake as welcome drink
- proper toilet paper where you don't grab into your own feces - unlike most in the Philippines where you have single ply toilet paper
- the room looks nice

Now the negative points:
- Bathroom from the 80's with fungus, crap installations - see pictures - speaks for itself - plastic bathtub, not nicely done plumbing, all with the appearance of the 80's, Bathroom Mirror starts to get blind at the edges (see pictures), sink is cracked, toilet & toilet seat - see pictures must be at least 30 years old - honestly: how long does it take for a toilet seat to discolor?
- to expensive for living in the eighties - see pictures of bathroom
- Mattress: seems to be from the 80's as well - see photographs it is even though relatively solid to thin in my opinion - I mean I like hard mattresses, but I don't like to feel the wood under the mattress so I feel the need to see a chiropractic afterwards...
- linen and pillow casing: See picture of fluff that makes it very rough and uncomfortable to sleep in...
- safe - is small - you have to juggle if you want to put more in than just a 10 inch tablet...
- internet connection: despite signal no connection
- no refunds policy - if you booked via agoda and want to check out the next day or after two days you get no refund at all... Just when you realize the hotel you chose is complete crap. Compared to that the Quest hotel in CEBU at 3700 promotional rate was sheer luxury... A 80es bathroom is no luxury at all... The TV is an old tube tv - no flat screen...
- the staff is not knowledgeable at all - they tell you that you can only enter a 3 digit code for the safe - wrong if they had read the manual - it accepts up to 8 digits
- the room door: Basically two glass sliding doors with two strange shaped keys which someone could easily open within 20 seconds if knowledgeable about burglary... Even worse they expect you to drop the keys every time you leave the "hotel" in a bucket at the reception... The key rings are ducks with the name of the room on it and I saw guests mistakenly taking the wrong room key... - That's not exactly what I call safety...

I would recommend to book one night only - and check out other places... There are definitely many other places with much better value for money unless you absolutely insist to be beachfront - and even then I think that there are much better choices...

Check-in 12:00. I had to wait for 1 hour after that time... I got a mango shake upon arrival but when you have to wait one hour because they did not urge the previous guest to check out on time the don't even bother to offer you a free water... Save your money and go somewhere else - most real hotels in that price range put two complimentary bottles of water a day to your room - the least one could expect at that price and with such old facilities...

Did I survive it? Sure... Would I come back or recommend this place? Probably not…

To sum it up: It could be a nice place if the management / the owner who is the management was able and willing to invest some money in the restoration of the bathroom, in new mattresses or even whole beds as well as in new linen and pillowcases - or get them to a laundry that does not mess them up in such a terrible way... My linen and Pillowcases don't look like that even after x years of use...

Room Tip: The only option you should go for is the new suite - the picture of the bathroom with a jacuzzi tub...

I have always been a huge fan of Mango Ray, and I don't really care if it does not belong to the high-end cluster of hotels on that side of the paradise island... it is still THE only choice for me. So much so that I got so excited taking my beautiful wife there for our honeymoon. It did not disappoint me (or her) when I last checked in there again this year. The first time I was there was more than five years ago, and I must say it has retained its character and personality despite all the changes around it. I was glad to find that the same room I loved didn't get old. But it did remind me of those years when Boracay was my refuge from Manila. Mango Ray has been there since the '80s and I'm delighted that this old friend hasn't changed at all. One of the many things I love about this resort is the design (size, shape, mood lighting, wood-varnished flooring, high ceiling) of its rooms - it is very spacious, yet everything in the room is all connected together. It gives you a feeling of home, comfort and privacy. Hundred percent guaranteed to make your stay in Boracay pleasant. It almost feels like you're secluded in this garden-surrounded hideaway even though it's just located in the middle of everything. Plus, the Mongolian buffet (and their Avocado smoothie) every night is a fab treat. No wonder why Mango Ray has tons of guests coming back. It just never fails.

Room Tip: Take the first room.

Stayed here with my wife for 4 days. Excellent room for the price. Extremely quiet and relaxing. Good location for daily activities. Hotel restaraunt prices seemed a little on the high side so we ate at other restaurants. The only negative thing I can say about our stay here is that the staff made us feel unwelcome. We greeted all staff with a friendly smile and hello, but received only vague responses in return. They will accomodate your needs, but seem bothered to do so. The staff's unfriendliness will not deter us from staying here again. We recommend this place but don't expect to be greeted warmly from the staff.

Great location - front and centre - lovely beachfront position with tree shade and close to lively bars and Dmall etc. Even so rooms are quiet due to secluded garden behind beach walk.
Beach garden huts are better than adequate, comfortable, roomy and an improvement on nippa huts. Garden beach showers were welcome as room shower was disappointing.
Bar and food ok - but with so much better choice within a stones throw - not a worry.
For those - like us - who still want to be in a sandy beach resort - not a swimming pool or tile in sight!

Room Tip: All rooms are in beach front garden and on 2 floors. If you need a ground level room because of sta...

I didn't stay here, but we walked passed and decided to eat at the restaurant in front of the hotel, where you select your meat and vegetables and they cook the food for you. Service was horrible. The servers stood around and didn't tend to you. The food was bland, poor selection of vegetables and food WAS NOT FRESH. Let's just say within an hour of eating here, I had an upset stomach and was throwing up the rest of the night. Poor service, bad food, don't eat here and waste your money. There are a ton of other places to dine at in Boracay.
