I have been visiting Our Place bar regularly since about the year 2000.
The building is owned by an American called Wes. He is a Korean War veteran who thought he would live out his days in Korea but in the late 70's was kicked out of Korea on suspicion of being a spy. He settled in Cebu and started Our Place
Originally it was a bikini bar downstairs with a restaurant upstairs. The bikini bar is long gone and Our Place is now just the bar and restaurant upstairs.
Wes leases the restaurant now. The current lease holder is a Welshman called Greg.
The website, with menu, for Our Place is here.
Don't rely on the prices in the menu though. For instance, the Farmer's Breakfast is P175 on the menu but now P190 in the restaurant. The beer price is still current though. P40 for San Miguel Pilsen or San Miguel Light.
I like Our Place for the atmosphere. It is a friendly place and you can go there and generally chat with anyone.
Two things you need to know about Our Place
- Patrons sit on both sides of the bar. I have often been sitting on what would normally be considered the bar tenders side of the bar and had people order drinks from me.
- Ring the bell at the end of the bar and you are shouting the bar. For North Americans, that means you are buying a round of drinks for every one sitting at the bar.
It is not just a place for foreign men to hang out. Wives, girlfriends and their children will come to the bar as well. Although sometimes, the wives will form a wives table while the men sit at the bar.
Yes, it has aircon but if the aircon is turned on, most people will complain. the bar is usually fully open with cooling by multiple fans. Just how most of the regulars like it.
