“One nite in hell”
Reviewed 23 July 2009

I arrived late during the night and only stayed that 1 night since it was pre-booked. The room was nothing special, very bland in décor. All furniture had some decay and looked well worn out, the walls were dirty next to the bed and spider webs & host dotted around the ceiling edges, floor tiles had a greasy slick. Bathroom didn't inspire me to take a shower either, the window frame was rotten showing blackened wood & old paint, the bath itself had numerous dents. Toilet didn't flush properly without assistance. Air Con worked however was very noisy in operation. The bed was usable. The only redeeming part was the bed sheets / towels were clean. Managed to get some sleep only to be woken up early next morning by Filipinos playing loud music & talking loudly. On leaving the next day the pool was average-sized but looked a little worn out. Thank god it was only 1 night !!!

I was full of anticipation and expectation for my 8 nights I had prebooked online at Tambuli west resort. Biggest mistake ever ! Firstly I am a seasoned traveler to the PHPS, have stayed in many hotels and resorts and never have found one to complain about. Until Tambuli west came into my life ! Firstly,, the location is good, tropical and lush, with a pleasant pool meandering through the site. The beach { now that isnt a word to describe 75 metres of sand that really has so little appeal!} has the usual Philippine trade marks, a diving school and pleasure sail craft to take you to the island 20 minutes away, but that is it, apart from a few jets skis for hire. Ok , all that taken in the first day there, now for the traps that await each unsuspecting guest. Room service, add 10% to the 12% VAT {never have experienced VAT in any Philippine establishment before} and add those to the 10% surcharge on anything purchased at this resort, including meals on top of already inflated prices and you are talking serious money here. To feed 2 people 3 meals a day was costing me over 3000 pesos or the near equivalent of 100aud. Totally outrageous, and to add insult to injury I acquired food poisoning {this came free without any surcharges!!} through the terrible food served up in a buffet setting. To sum up the food at Tambuli west,, lousy at least obnoxious at best . Now,, the most surprising thing of all is the word RESORT in the Tambuli west name. I expect a resort to offer to its guests a peaceful relaxing environment, where if one seeks tranquility and noise free, pollution free surrounding they are available. Tambuli west doesnt believe in treating its guests to this environment. Each day is open day to the local population {for a fee} and so the masses invade the place on weekends and any other occasion they can find. And they park them selves where ever they see fit, be it right outside my room's porch. So much for me to enjoy the location,, my comfort and well being doesnt count in the yes of this management team. The result on any given day at any given hour is noise from the singing and bands that come along, as well as no privacy at all for the masses will wander around at leisure doing whatever they feel like doing. Forget this place if you seek a quiet relaxing holiday far from the maddening crowd for believe me the maddening crowd are right at your doorstep. To sum up, I would never recommend Tambuli west to anyone, my comments are not biased,, they are true and are documented to Tambuli west management who havent the decency to respond. So beware fellow travelers,, there are better resorts on the horizon than this horrid establishment, and my suggestion would be to try Bohol's resorts , an hour away by ferry. Thank you Tambuli west for absolutely nothing.

This is already my third time here in Tambuli. First time was during one of their yearly events Jamaican Nights. It was long time ago and I could not enjoy the beauty of place back then because it was night time. Second time around I was with friends last December 2006. This time I was with my family.

When we are in Tambuli we don't stay for the night because I live in Mactan Island / Lapu-lapu City which is pretty much close to the resort. So I just had a day tour in the resort. Therefore I can only comment on their location, beach, amenities & food.

Location:
Just so-so. It is located near the other top resorts in Cebu. Regarding the beach, I don't like it that much. But it is how it is with the beaches here in Cebu or Mactan Island area.

Amenities:
In Tambuli, you can enjoy their very big and uniquely designed pool. There is a shallow pool for the kids and an adequately deep pool for the adults. There is a jacuzzi at the center which is very relaxing. They also have a beach volleyball area which is pretty nice if you like to play in the mid-day sun.

Food:
The food is just so-so also. I haven't tried their buffet but I have heard that it is good. Their ala carte meal servings is just average. Nothing really fancy or special.

So in conclusion, I can say that the resort is average.

Checked in for 2 nights 3 days, nice welcome drink, and a warm reception. The hotel is joined to the East Wing and the Cebu Beach Club as they all belong to the same owner. There is a TV with satellite channels and fridge with 2 small complimentary bottles of water every day. The bathrooms were a little worn out. The pool has a nice shape, is quite big and also very clean. The restaurant at this resort served good food especially during the BBQ dinner buffet.

The taxi from hotel will charge a flat rate of 200-300 pesos around Mactan Island and some time depends how far you want to go.

In-short, the overall conclusion is good but the price would have to come down a bit for us to return there.

The beach was less than average and the location of the hotel is quite far from Cebu City even from anything. Beach lovers can tried out the resort’s aqua sports equipment like the Jet Ski, aqua bike, and banana boat or even parasailing.

Rooms are large, I stayed single there but had a room with 3 beds in large room with balconery to the pool side. The bathroom also in a good size but should need some renovations. Climate in the room does work very good with a good regulation. The pool in the ressort looks like a lagoon area in Venice with bridges in tropical style. Its very interesting constructed.
Breakfast in the morning was good, if no buffet available during week, I walked to the neighbour ressort just 1 minute far. Three ressorts Tumbuli west and east and cebu beach club belong together. I only had dinner in the evening, this also was very good. If it is raining there or other bad weather does not alow to do water sports or swimming, there is not activity possible, no sports (futnes) room, no internet connection. The area around the three hotel ressorts is dirty and invites not for a walking through the nature. The staff there is very friendly and helpfull at each day time.

  • Liked — friendly and helpfull staff
  • Disliked — no fintness room no internet connection, if it is bad weather there

My wife, sister and 2 kids checked in for 2 nights 3 days, check in formalities was at ease, staff are confident, nice welcome drink, a warm reception. In-short, the overall conclusion is good.

Relaxing to the extreme, kids enjoyed it the most and so did I and my wife.

I did invite of couple of friends for coffee late at night at the terrace, it was quite late, however, food & beverage staff did attend my calls for coffee, not only that, but you can feel a close eyes was watching the kids by the staff themselves.

Friendly music and songs playing while you are having your food is one of the attractive plan set by the Hotel for a more enjoyable friendly atmosphere.

Security is quite but present at all times, beach facilities are within reach, yet a closed marina would be safer, but we did have all the fun.

Checking out was the hardest part of it all.... will be back soon.

We stayed at this resort for 3 nights (12 - 15 May). The hotel had a nice layout and a very nice pool. It is also joined to the East Wing and the Cebu Beach Club as they all belong to the same owner. Our twin deluxe room was less than deluxe standard but at least the aircon unit worked well. There is a TV with satellite chanels and fridge with 2 small complimetary bottles of water every day. The pool has a nice shape, is quite big and is very clean. The restaurant at this resort served good food and the breakfast was OK.

Both this resort and the Cebu Beach Club next door had big events with the locals every weekend so it was very crowded and loud. Do not expect peace and quiet at the weekends!

The beach was less than average and the location of the hotel is quite far from Cebu City.

For scuba divers who are planning to stay at this resort, try not to use the diving operator that is on the beach at Cebu Beach Club. It is run by a Japanese guy who charges a lot of money for average dives. His operation is targetted at Japanese tourists who don't mind paying the high price. We paid around US$80 for 2 boat dives just off the beach. Better save your money and go diving somewhere else.
