“Great place for a family holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2012

We love Singapore as a good, relaxing, varied holiday destination.

For a family holiday with kids - Shangri-la Rasa Sentosa is very hard to beat. We spent 2 weeks here and took a "family fun" package. Our room was clean, well maintained and had everything we needed.

The food in the restaurants on site are good and in particular the buffet setup is of a good quality and excellent variety that, even staying there for 2 weeks and being on a package ( so we ended up going there quite a bit) we did not end up eating the same meals over and over again. The house wines were Australian and New Zealand, the cheeses were French.

The pools are of good but not elaborate with nice areas for children. And the man made beach at Siloso (right in front of the hotel) are good for a more "beachy" swim or a go on a paddleoboat etc.

Our daughter enjoyed going to the kids club on and off during our stay. The staff were attentive and professional with planned activities each day. We were happy for our daughter to go and play under their supervision and she always wanted to go again without hesitation when we offered it.

The hotel is ideally located in a great spot for a family holiday with lots of interesting things to see and do. It is on Siloso Beach on Sentosa in Singapore. This means you can have a resort / beach holiday in a tropical forest setting. You look out across the beach to the sea but instead of just water you see ships and islands of all shapes and sizes waiting to come into port. Like the rest of Singapore, Sentosa Island has a lot of different of things to do packed into a relatively small place that is easy to get around. From assorted attractions and rides, cable cars, Universal Studios, golf course to beaches and rainforest walks. Just across from Sentosa Island are 2 shopping large centres, HarbourFront and Vivo City which has anything you could need shopping wise and the MRT subway station in the basement to get you easily and cheaply to the rest of Singapore. Using the hotel shuttle to the MRT you can easily get to other fun places in Singapore like Chinatown, Little India, Clarke Quay, Holland Village, Marina Bay, Gardens on the Bay, Botanical / Orchid Gardens etc.

We only took a taxi once and that was to the Zoo and back which cost $35 each way. The Zoo is good and worth it.

Finally Singapore is not the cheapest place to holiday but overall we think it is great value. In particular, Singapore makes for an interesting, relaxing holiday because when travelling with small kids you can be confident that pretty much everything is clean, well organised, reliable, professional and safe.

Room Tip: All views are pleasant but you need to be on the 7th floor or above to get the sea view.

Stayed in June 2012 for 3 nights. Adjoining rooms travelling with two children. Rooms were clean, beds very comfortable and quiet. We were on the 11th floor.
Excellent pool and facility with children to sit back and relax. Great poolside bar with service to your lounge. Great location on Sentosa for free transport to all attractions.
Great choice for food at the hotel with the one of the best buffets experienced either for breakfast or dinner. Kids eat free.
Had a small amount of trouble when checking out with the package of dining credits being accurately reflected in our bill but issues were akk sorted to our satisfaction.

Room Tip: High floors give great view. They are not lying about the monkeys, so beware.

When management come around randomly to guests at the pool side asking for feedback and how they can improve your stay, you know you are at a Hotel chain that takes hospitality and service seriously. We stayed for 5 nights with a 16 month old and a 6 year old in the Deluxe Sea View Suite.

Pros:
1) Nice to be in a hotel with families who also have young children and all the associated issues!
2) Kids own buffet bar where they could help themselves in the Silver Shell Cafe
3) We got great service from Jenny who greeted us at arrivals to the personal greeting by a staff member upon arriving at the hotel, from housekeeping (Jin Yan), in-room dining, the staff at Silver Shells (especially Mona), the lads at the pool bar, the ladies in the Spa (Jessie is good!) and the list goes on. There was exceptional service all round.
4) From our stay we saw and met nice family oriented, considerate people from all over the globe.
5) All the Kids activities- kids club, kids waterslides, pool, art and craft corner, trapeze, toddler play room. And that's just the resort. Plenty of other kid activities on the island e.g Universal Studios.
6) The Deluxe Sea View Suite had a sizeable outdoor faux grass area and a nice patio with an outdoor dining set. Great for kids to run around within your own private area. Nice views of the pool and grounds.
7) The free shuttle bus service to Vivo City. There is also a free public bus and monorail service but I wouldn't recommended this during the weekends when it is very busy and when you have a stroller!
8) The monkeys and the peacocks!

Cons:
1) Upon arrival, our room was clean but the shower was a bit smelly and the floors of the main room had sticky spots. After calling Housekeeping all issues were resolved immediately.
2) The constant smell of diesel and oil and tankers docked out on the horizon. You're reminded immediately that you're not quite in a tropical paradise!
3) Very crowded island and resort on the weekends.

Overall, we had a pleasant family holiday.

Room Tip: Sizeable private "yard" and patio in the Deluxe Sea View Suites, Level 7.

When we arrived our room was not ready but we were soon taken to the Bubbles Bar for a complimentary Singapore Sling. Our room was clean and well appointed with a beautiful view of the swimming pool and the ocean. The breakfast which was included in the price was delicious. I had requested gluten free options and I was not disappointed in the waffles and muffins. We had meals in several of the restaurants and found them to be all of a high standard particularly 'Casserole' where the head chef 'Mansour' treated us like VIP's. The bus and tram stopped at the entrance to the hotel making travel around the island very easy. We have nothing but praise for the hotel and its facilities and staff.

Room Tip: A Deluxe Seaview room on the highest level possible

This is the 4th time I have stayed here, and recent renovations have made it even better than before.I mostly like to stay here because it is away from the city and close to all the new attractions on Sentosa Island. It has an excellent pool, but the advertised spa is joined to the pool and the same temperature. The rooms are outstanding, just make sure you get an ocean view or you could be overlooking the carpark. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful.I would also suggest taking a taxi to and from the Airport for about $30S,as hotel shuttles can sometimes take a long time and are not much cheaper.Although not part of the resort the nearby beach is nice but I noticed each time I visited that there is always bottles etc near the shoreline and the water is not clear, but is warm, around 30 degrees(mid eighties in US )

Room Tip: Make sure you get an ocean view room.

Stayed 9 nights and had everything at our fingertips. Great Pool View Room, laundry facilities each floor, free and regular transport around island and to the city (Vivo), range of restaurants, very friendly, helpful staff in all areas, gymnasium. Lots to do on the island as well as in Singapore city. Transfers efficiently organised both ways by the hotel. Given access to a room prior to leaving for airport to 'freshen up' (no charge). Excellent accommodation for either families or couples. Could thoroughly recommend.

Room Tip: Garden View great. Was nice to look over the pool but also have a glimpse of the China Sea. We were...

Our family stayed 8 nights at the Shangri-La sentosa resort. Here is a summary which might be helpful for prospective travellers.

Location - Being on Sentosa Island its approx 15 mins from orchard rd. The cost by taxi is approx 15 SGD 1 way. Which when traveling with kids and prams/pushers etc was ok. There are also a variety of other transport options including the free tram 2 min walk to the tramstop and also the buses 1 min walk to bus stop which will get you around sentosa island to all the attractions.

1 - Check In Process
The hotel is approx 35 mins from Changi Airport on Sentosa Island. We had a mini van which we were greeted at the arrivals counter by the hotel rep. Upon arriving your have your own hotel reservations person greet you with a smile and guide you through the check in process - which took less than 10 mins. The same hostess takes you up to your room and answers any questions you initially may have. Everyone at the hotel lobby are friendly, speak english have a smile on their faces and genuinely love children. So you immediately feel welcome.

2 - The Room
With 3 year old twins, we were allocated a king sized bed and a futon bed (which easily accommodated the twins) with both a pool and a sea view (room 401). The room is spacious with a bathroom with double basins, a shower, separate toilet and also a separate room just for the bath. The balcony is also generous in size.

In Asia, there seems to be a common theme that the beds are hard. I like soft beds, but its just the way it is.

3 - Housekeeping
The rooms were continuously stocked with complimentary bottled water. The houskeeping was excellent with no issue. The turndown service was also carried out every evening without fail.

4 - Resort Facilities
For 3 year old twins, having great facilities was a must, and we weren't dissapointed. 3 water slides which was continuously manned by a lifeguard, a water play area as well as the kiddy pool made resort time enjoyable. The pool is very hygienic as they used alot of chlorine which was good. No leaves/debris in the water either. Immaculate water facilities.

There is also an arts/crafts room which is manned by a resort rep as well as a kids club, however, our two were still too young for the kids club.

There is also a 7-11 that has all the incidentals you require just down the hill 1 min walk from the lobby

5 - Food
Buffet breakfast has everything you can ask for. One of the better buffets i have experienced. No issue with wait times or service by the staff to remove plates etc. Food is fresh.

Poolside food was great for the kids. Ok price wise... not cheap but not expensive either. Great variety including spring rolls, sandwiches, burgers etc.

Buffet dinner. A little on the expensive side, but not too bad. The buffet varies from day to day which is great. No issue with overcrowding etc.

Overall - would definitely go back to this hotel as its great for the children. Completely safe and very welcoming. Well organised and service is sensational. We had no issue with anything.

If you have kids, and want to keep them entertained, this has enough to do that! You are still close to other tourist attractions which are very easy to get to.
