“Funky Hotel lacking direction”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 November 2009

We stayed for 8 nights at the Re, having read previous reviews on this site - arrived at 08.30 after an overnight flight (check in 15.00) and room allocated immediately. We would agree that the rooms are small, but they are clean and the housekeeping was good. The advertised L'Occitaine toiletries disappeared after day 6, so don't know what is happening there.

The hotel is out of the way, but we had no difficulty in walking to the MRT 10 minutes away, or even to Chinatown or Clarke Quay, only a leisurely stroll of 15 minutes or so, but not recommended for those that suffer in the heat and humidity.

Our concerns centre strongly on the catering. When ordering food in the resteraunt, it seemed common practice for meals to arrive at different times - we witnessed one couple where the main course was served for the man but the lady's main course only arrived as the dessert arrived for the man. Serving one of a party with unacceptable gaps before the rest of a party was served continued to be common practice.

We were offered, and accepted, an upgrade to the ReFine dining area where special breakfasts, afternoon teas and Cocktail nibbles were provided - do not take this up, the hotel is just not geared up to deliver on their promise, and we had to complain on occasions when no food was prepared for our arrival, and it was common practice to suggest that we fetch our own food from the restaraunt across the lobby.

Overall, probably good value for money in Singapore, but I would beware the delivery on the food/restaraunt side.

Hotel Re is just as funky as the the pictures on their web site suggests. OK, the rooms are smallish but clean and well kept. The previous guest in our room had been smoking quite heavily but this was remedied with an ionizer. The staff was very friendly eager to help our stay enjoyable. Hotel Re's only problem is in my view the location. It is a bit out of the way and you need to do some walking or get on the subway to get to restaurants or shopping areas. The breakfast buffet was a bit uninspired so I would recommend going out some some local food court or similar.

This place is very retro and quirky. Staff were helpful and friendly and they operate a free shuttle bus during parts of the day. The hotel is not located in the perfect spot as it a good 10 min walk through the park to Chinatown MRT station (not a problem for us as we dont mind a walk, but something to bear in mind). Rooms are quite small - not sure if this is a general Singapore thing(?). We opted for breakfast, but it wasnt that fantastic if I'm honest - certainly not bad enough for me to deter anyone from staying there though, as our stay was very enjoyable, the rooms funky and clean, lovely staff and a very good price.

This is fun looking hotel, very funkily decorated with a different theme for each floor. Our room had everything we expected of a quality hotel but there was just a feel of it being ever so slightly cheap.

The bed was comfortable, the bathroom clean and functional, there was a TV and a large window let in plenty of natural light. The room was an average size and it's difficult to say anything bad about it but also nothing too exceptional either apart from the funky decor, which was PINK with Marilyn Monroe silhouette's above the bed, and small, sparkly pink and pale green tiles in the bathroom.

Location wise Hotel Re! is a little way from being bang in the middle of everything but there is Metro station about a 5 minute walk away across a small park, so it's easy enough to get around and although we didn't try it, I don't think it's too far to walk to Chinatown or Clarke Quay.

For value and cheeriness this hotel is definitely recommendable if the larger hotels of Singapore are outside your budget.

We arrived at Hotel Re to be told they wouldn't be able to accomodate our booking of a double room and we would have a twin room. This was the last couple of days of our honeymoon and we'd booked this hotel (due to great reviews on this site) over five months previously.

After arguing that we'd booked a double room and when we said we'd go somewhere else they miraculously found us a double. Very strange indeed. It then however took another 30mins to get the key for this room and into it. This was all incredibly frustrating.

Upon arrival at the room we discovered that it could well be the smallest room we have ever stayed in. It was clean enough but beware the pictures on the website must have been taken with an incredibly wide-angled lens!!

The location of the hotel is not bad to be fair as it's near to a MRT stop. Although strangely they shut the quickest route to the MRT after midnight so if you return after this time you have to go the long way!

All in all this wasn't a great experience and I'd pay twice as much to go elsewhere in future.

Marketed as a boutique hotel, but almost too big to sit in this category. However it is a funky, alternative hotel.
Standard rooms are very small. We were allocated a twin on arrival which was tiny and requested a double room - we were upgraded to the next class of room, which was great. Lacks the touches that you get in boutique hotels, but is cheaper.
Set lunch menu is one of the biggest bargains in Singapore and the restaurant was full of locals.
Hotel is a little out of the main centre - 5mins walk to the MRT or the hotel do run a free shuttle into the centre, though times are a little infrequent.
I wanted to take the bed home with me it was so comfortable!

We stayed at this quirkily decorated hotel for 3 nights on our way back to Australia from Italy & Egypt.
If you like bright pink & lime green then this hotel is for you.
The staff is very helpful & the rooms spacious & very clean. The bathroom toiletries are great - they even provide toothbrush & toothpaste. The bed was huge & very comfortable & each room has a wide screen digital TV.
There is a restaurant on site which serves a good variety of delicious meals, both western & chinese (try the fried beef kweoy tay). Breakfast is largely chinese based so may not appeal to western palates but the chef will cook you any style of eggs on the spot & there is the usual cereal, yoghurt, fruit & toast so you won't go hungry but it is a bit pricey at S18 & there is no other choice. However, you can find every conceivable type of food at Orchard Rd if you don't want to eat at the hotel.
Internet is available but it is not free. However, there are tea/coffee making facilities in the room which was a bonus after Italy & Egypt where there were no such facilities.
The concierge was a lovely man who went out of his way for us.
If we ever return to Singapore, we will return to Re! Pearl's Hill.
