For a lower priced hotel, this was a great place to stay. We had a family room on the third floor overlooking the pool area. Room was very large and fitted our family of four very comfortably. Housekeeping always supplied us with plenty of towels and amenities. They have empty fridge so you can stock up with cold water and other drinks. The 7-11 is downstairs and also Mr Teh Tarik for convenient food and drinks. It's a ten minute walk to Payar Lebar MRT, where there is a few fast food joints at the Singapore Post Building. Also nearby to the hotel is the Haig Rd Hawker centre which has some great food stalls, including satay. The staff were all very friendly , we never had any problems with our stay. It's a safe neighbourhood and never had any problems walking around late at night.

Stay was cool (Ronald & mates) were very helpful and accommodating...a better temporary roof to stay and accessible location. To those bad commentaries don't have high expectations as these is a budget hotel be fair with the management. Thanks and God Bless Ronald & team :)

The price is very low, compared to many other hotels in Singapore. A lot of hotels of Hotel 81 chain is situated in the red night district but Tristar is not. It took my family especially with a 3-year-old girl around 10 mins from the MRT to the hotel and it is not easy to find in my opinion. It was tiring and took me a lot of energy to push the baby stroller to the MRT and some parts of the surface along the road were uneven and often I needed to lift up and down the whole stroller.

The room is large but not very clean. I could see some ants walking around in different corners of the room. Anyway, it is acceptable with this price.

This hotel is actually the worst I have ever been. The reception and the lobby are OK but the room is horrible. I found dirty water in the bathtub, hairs in the sink, the toothbrush was in the middle of a leak of water and old toilet paper stick to the toilet seat. I don't think that the hotel staff clean the room after every guest, they just change the bed sheet and that's it. Finally the hotel is far from the city center. However it is close enough from the airport

The hotel is situated 5 mintues walk from MRT Paya Lebar station which makes it a very good point to visit Singapore. There is no breakfast service but there is a 24 hours shop and local food court downstairs. There is a complimentary water supplied daily as well as tea/coffe. Nice and clean. The only disadvantage is that you have to pay the local tax which is not included in the price when you make a reservation (e.g. by booking.com).

I have stayed many times at this quiet hotel in a nice colourful Malay part of Singapore not far from the Paya Lebar MRT (10 minutes walk). 2 MRT lines intersect there including the direct East-West line to Changi Airport and the new Central line to downtown. There is excellent bus service andd taxis always available at the corner. The hotel is cater-corner to the now being redeveloped site of the Old Malay Village complex.
Over the years I have watched Tristar get more and more dilapidated.
The rooms are large.Sheets clean. No bugs. The bathrooms dated. Basic, simple amenities are there- soap in dispenser in bathtub, toothbrush, comb. My room had a slow leak in the floor in front of the toilet. I was offered several different rooms by the pleasant desk staff but they each had enough deficiencies that I just spent the 3 nights in that room. There are numerous Malay eateries, a decent supermarket and a food court with scores of stalls within 50 meters.
I had the pleasant large, sunny, second floor pool ( also needs some repairs ) mainly to myself to swim laps and sun in.
For Singapore this is a budget hotel. I do wish they would fix it up since a pool, decent room at a reasonable price and proximity to a MTR to the airport is important to me.

Room Tip: It's roulette!
