Given the high price of accomodation in Singapore, Welcome Inn Backpackers is about as good as it gets. The rooms are clean and it is possible to opt for a unisex dorm for an extra 5 dollars. The staff are a great source of information and are very approachable. The breakfast was great and included cake freshly baked each morning. It was also very handy to have free and fast internet.
Perhaps the only downsides are the location and the bathrooms. While it is located near Little India and the Arab Quarter, which serves well for a half-a day trip (maxiumum), it is a relatively long distance from the city centre and China Town. Its about a 10min walk to Farrer Park station, which can be a bit difficult with a heavy backpack in the crowded peak-hour streets. Also, there are only two showers and two toilets for all the guests. This means that you often have to wait in the evenings or alternatively, get up earlier if you are a little pushed for time in the morning.
Overall, it has a great atmosphere and the dining room provides a great environment in which to meet people, which is important for solo travellers. There are also comfy couches and movies playing all the time, so its gives backpackers a chance to relax. Therefore, if you are looking for cheap, clean accomodation and good reliable travel advice, Welcome Inn Backpackers is a great choice.
