“Some noise, but no worries”
Reviewed 21 November 2013 via mobile

This is a good location south of the river, in the busy Chinatown streets. It's close to the MRT, and you reach the airport within an hour.

The room I had was a double. No windows and very basic. It was clean enough and the shared bathrooms are not bad.

I heard noises from other rooms, the corridor and some from the street, but it didn't bother me much.

Wifi is very good, and they have a computer in the public area.

Singapore is expensive, and I was in for a short stop, that's why I picked it. I don't regret.

Had booked the private double room and was given the topmost floor as we wanted to escape the noise from the pub downstairs at night but to no avail; the noise still managed to travel up but at least we still got some sleep. We were in room 9 when a huge bed bug appeared on the bed and we immediately informed the staff downstairs and was thankfully given another room - 11. Sadly I still got bitten but did not see any bedbugs so I could not inform the staff much.

The shower stalls (2 per floor) are relatively clean but small, unused most of the time. Microwaves, a toaster, knife, induction cooker, pots and fridges are provided (most are on the second floor). Both levels have a water cooler which also supplies hot water. Both levels also supplies free internet from a desktop. The free laundry and dryer service on the secind level is good, clothes came out hot and clean.

Room sadly is small, walls painted pink, slightly claustrophobic with dim yellow lighting making it look smaller. Windows are in rooms but no way to open them;they are boarded with an acrylic board. Very squeezy room with an old cabinet and small table where ants roam about crazily. They get on the bed, bags and you too. Not very nice whilst sleeping. Walls and floors are thin; you could hear many people walking and shutting doors and talking.

No breakfast provided but just a street's walk away from Chinatown point, and about three streets' walk to a good hawker center with good food.

female dorm is not a room but it is juz a space separated by curtain. i was quite shocked to know that the very first time i step in. therefore, i dont think it is what i expected to get as there is no privacy at all, there is still guy outside and can walk in anytime if they want. in addition, the cupboard locker is not functioning well too. to me, i wont recommend this place if you choose to the female dorm. lastly, the sound partitions is not good as well as i still can hear the singing sound comes from the pub at night which did disturb my sleeping.

The backpackers inn is right in Chinatown - the place to be if you're staying for a short time. Room rent is not high, clean and comfy. Although the bathroom is communal, it is well-maintained. Washing machines are also available for use. Good value for your money especially if you want to dedicate your time on going out the whole day - 5-minute walk to the shopping hub, restos and metro train.

Room Tip: You have to reserve online to get a room in peak season.

Stayed here for 5 nights during the Formula 1 weekend. Had a double room which was perfect for what we needed. Small in size but had good AC unit and for the price you can't complain.

Wifi worked well and the communal toilets were clean with hot water. Didn't use the washing machines, but they were free which is a nice touch.

Only downside was that the bed sheets and towels weren't changed during our 5 day stay - something which most hostels would have done.

Singapore is not cheap but you get your money's worth here. Stayed in a private double, small but adequate, a/c, clean. Great to have FREE laundry facilities including washing powder. Kitchen convenient although we didn't use.

So close to MRT, local cheap eats, nice walking distance to the river. Staff were friendly and it was nice to see families with children staying here. Felt comfortable although noise does travel in the building.

This place is in a really good location with the metro close by and lots of shopping and food possibilities within easy walking distance. The only real downer was that it was very cramped in the rooms, especially with 3 people. For a backpackers place it was clean, staff were helpful and the reported noise was tolerable. Singapore is not cheap so this is viable option if you just want a bed.

Room Tip: Triple rooms aren't really triple rooms!
