An excellent way to fill up your lungs with fresh air, freshen your eyes with more than 50 shades of green, feast your nose and ears with the smells and sounds of nature. Walk all the way and reach the wonderful HortPark as you enjoy tremendous views of the port. A wonderful oasis of green in urban Singapore!

Say Singapore and most of you will directly thinking of shopping, night life, Merlion, Marina Bay and best transportation system :). But, for you the running enthusiast, and not only jogging or light running, try to visit The Southern Ridges trail. Located right behind the Harbor Font station, i found out that this running course is not for beginners. It takes me like 5 minutes to end the 800 meters track and elevation 70 meters (equal with 24-storey building) and i sweat like after finishing 5K race hahaha.

There are so many spot that will requires uphill and downhill running and this is suitable for you who want to escalate your running training.

Like many others park in Singapore, The Southern Ridges also very clean and full with directions board. So, for first time visitors like me, don't worry to get lost. Just explore this hilly park.

The Southern Ridges are a 5mi or so (?) series of trails and walkways through the edges of the city. The trail is very well marked and full of tourists, locals, and joggers alike. Most, if not all, of the trail is wheelchair accessible and all of it is in excellent repair. There are scenic overlooks and several options for increased or decreased difficulty.

Take LOTS of water. There were not many drinking fountains on the trail except when you reach the Hort Park portion of the trail. There are lots of signs around "Do not feed the monkeys" unfortunately, we didnt even see one.

We found that our hotel staff had never heard of the Southern Ridges, not sure if that means its not well known, known by another name, or they just didn't know. Also, the trail head was very accessible from the MRT. The end of the trail we found to be not very well marked, and a bit confusing to get back to an MRT stop. By then, after hiking 5 hours or so in the heat, I would have appreciated a clearer direction to the MRT stop.

Overall, you have to do the trail. In an expensive and busy city, the Southern Ridges is a great escape. And not to mention, it's one of the coolest free things you can do in the city.

Heard a lot about this attraction but only got around to walking the trail today with my wife.
Very rewarding experience indeed. Got there early before 8:30 with Brekkie in our tummies.
Started at Kent Ridge Park and walked all the way to Mt Faber. Highlight was the canopy walk at Henderson. But overall the scenery and experience as a whole was great and reassuring that we have preserved this bit of greenery for all to enjoy.
Best bit is that it's free.
A must-do for everyone.

Nice views, quiet getaway (on weekdays), a chance to catch a bit of nature without the bugs and mosquitoes that jungle hikes entail.
