“Nice hotel, not a great location”
Reviewed 30 September 2011

Wangz is a very nice, boutique hotel. Our room was very clean with nice decor. The staff were accomodating and friendly. The upstairs bar was a great place to go for a drink in the late afternoon.

The location was a 5 minute walk to the subway, it was out of the city but if you are willng to give the subway a go, it's easy enough to get around.

There wasn't much around in the immediate vicinity.

Unlike most of the svc you get in spore when svc staff shows basic courtesy and indifferent attitude, wangz hotel staff are genuine and go the extra mile to make your stay even more pleasant. As a surprise for my birthday which my partner has informed them, they decorated the whole room and even bathroom with rose petals, even one lined with my name, and a pair of towel swan on the bed. Staff was always friendly n taking the initiative to greet us with a warm smile. The room was cosy as well. The buffet breAkfast may not have a wide variety n hotel room without a bathtub but i think the other facilities made up for it. It has been a really pleasant short stay!

Location is extremely convenient. 10 mins taxi ride to the city. Close to MRT station as well as convenient for families visiting patients in Singapore General Hospital. Food can be easily acquired with the famous Tiong Bharu pau located next door. Do not be fooled by the 4 star ratings of this hotel, as my stay with my family here had proven it's worthy of 6 star from the very start when we first checked-in. The quality of service from each and everyone of the staff here has been superb. Having travelled around quite a number of countries, this is by far the best I've stayed in. Front desk, bar staff personally greets you with your surname. Higher Managements are seen mingling around with hotel guests during breakfast and lunch. Rooms designs are extremely spacious. Practicality with furniture choice has proven worthwhile. The Deluxe room also provides it's guest with 45 degree angle view of Tiong Bharu. Definitely a hotel worth staying, as the staff here prides on the warmth hospitality services which they provide. Job well done team Wangz Hotel Singapore.

Stayed for two nights. Overall stay as reflected by previous reviews. Location poor, rooms and staff fine. Breakfast very limited. Poor value for money. Far better options in central Sing for the same rate.

But absolutely should AVOID. Checked out at 1pm. At 4pm noticed that colleague had left a bag containing wallet, cash, credit and bank cards, ID card plus personal items in the room. Immediately notified hotel and returned to the hotel to retrieve the bag. Hotel front desk asserted that they had checked the room 3 times but had not found the item. Advised that there was nothing further that they could do. Polite but not helpful and making no attempt to get to the bottom of the issue. Had to report the theft myself to the police station as the front desk did not help place the call.

In conclusion, avoid this hotel. Theft occurs here and the duty staff have an unhelpfulnattitude in dealing with it. Extremely dissatisfied customer.

Redeemed a complimentary night here as part of my belated birthday stuff. And also an opportunity to just relax :) The hotel was sweet to give me a complimentary cake for my birthday, although it was already belated.

The lobby was really empty and I had no problems checking in when I arrived at shortly after 12noon as I had requested for early check in. The staff was attentive and even walked to the lift to offer help plus carry my bag for me.

Room 501 was good sized with 2 super comfy single beds; fitting in also was a nice writing desk and also another couch-like chair with a clothes rack. The bathroom was nice, albeit a little on the small side. I love the Molten Brown toiletries!

There's also a DVD player and ipod player in the room, plus an alarm which i didnt use. One of the pillow case was stained but they very quickly changed it after we called. Requests for ice buckets, extra toiletries etc was also responded to fast.

Some of the mini bar drinks were complimentary which I thought was nice. Also free wireless in the room but sometimes the signals are quite weak, depending on which spot in the hotel you're at. No pool, but a very small gym which looked very un-used.

There's only 2 dining options in the hotel - Nectar at the lobby level (breakfast venue too) and a rooftop bar Halo. The bar is quite a nice place for chilling out if you get a nice breeze going. Otherwise, a big local market is available 5mins walk away.

I was prepared for a sad breakfast spread after reading the reviews and it was indeed quite sad. You get 1 order of your choice of eggs and sausages etc, and the rest of the spread was simple stuff like porridge, one type of dim sum, a small cheese platter, smoked salmon, cold cuts. There's of course fruits, cereals, and coffee/tea. Nothing fanciful but I actually think it fills you up suitably.

I have this review as average although I think the rooms are quite good due to its location. I'm a local so its not so bad, but for visitors it may be abit boring here. No shopping within walking distance, although there's Chinatown but a good 3-4 bus stops away. The hotel is also about 10-15mins walk away from the nearest MRT, Outram. If the weather is hot, the walk will feel much longer.

This hotel is probably not ideal for a staycation or someone who's a 1st time visitor to our country but will be fine for someone who's looking for a good night rest with good accessibility to the airport (right next to a major expressway).

Room Tip: Ask for high floor

Wangz hotel is situated about 15mins walk from Outram MRT station. Note that this hotel is not stated on the map at the MRT station. Exit from Entrance/Exit A of the train station and head along Outram Rd (open field on the right side) until you see the Central Expressway overhead. Wangz is located at the left corner of the road.

We stayed at Wangz for 2 nights in July at their Superior room under the GSS promotion. This promo entitled us for a breakfast inclusive stay and 2 complimentary drinks at Halo. During check-in, the reception forgot to give us the drink vouchers (hmm). I requested for a late checkout, but the reception insisted we must be going by 12pm (double hmm). When we went to our room, only then I realised about the vouchers. Called them and they said they will deliver to our room. It took them 3hrs later (around 11pm) before they quietly slipped the envelope underneath the door. By then it was too late to go up to Halo (closed at 12am).

Room wise was big and spacious. Our toilet/bathroom was obnoxiously big. It was almost half the size of the bedroom and to us it was nothing but a pointless empty space. The bathroom has an entire full height window panel throughout. During daytime, the bathroom was very warm. Having such a big space, there was no bathtub, only a small shower area and a small basin area. The toilet bowl vs the shower area & the basin were positioned in an awkward triangle position (and so the big empty space in the center). We stayed at the 2nd floor facing the backlane of shophouses. No good view. Like someone mentioned before, the noise of garbage collector truck could be heard at early morning around 7pm. However, the room was very quiet at night and surprisingly the room was rather soundproof from the corridor. The minibar offered in the room is not all free. Only canned drinks and packed tea/coffee are free. Even the Snapple is chargeable. Check on the cost sheet before eating.

The hotel offers DVDs rental for free, but selection is limited the disc we rented was defective. There are no swimming/sauna facilities in this hotel, only a small gym room with one of each kind of equipment, IMO, not much activity to do within the hotel. Breakfast buffet selection was really very limited (pls lower your expectation). The good point was, at the peak of breakfast time, there was no queuing for seat and every guest was able to get their tables. We did not try their Nectar restaurant dishes (highly promoted by the hotel) since we saw how expensive the price tag of room service was. However, there are alot of eateries nearby and we headed out to have our lunch/dinner. A recommendation is the nearby Kampong Chicken Eating House.

We managed to head up to Halo the next night for our drinks. It wasn’t as panoramic since the building is only 7 storey high. We were quite turn-off by the huge weekend crowd that generated alot of noise. Nothing tranquil and relaxing as they advertised.

In conclusion, it’s not the best boutique hotel in Singapore, but at least it would be rated as one of the better hotels in that area. They provided free wifi and gave Molton Brown toiletries. Price wise is quite decent for a boutique stay and location is not too bad. Encountered friendly staff during our stay, plus clean & prompt housekeeping. So in total, I gave this hotel a ‘good’ as rating (in between of average & very good since TA does not have this).

Room Tip: King bed Superior rooms are located at low floors.

We stayed here for two nights at the end of June and found it was much better than places of a comparable price that we had stayed at in Singapore before. It is a boutique hotel and it was nice to escape some of the card-board cut-out style places in the area.

The room was relatively spacious by Singapore standards, the bed was comfy, the bathroom was neat and clean and all the various techno gadgets were in perfect working order. We found the service to be quite attentive and will definitely stay here again when passing through Singapore.
