“Cool Hotel, Great Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 March 2012

Studio M is beautifully designed concept boutique hotel where ever room is a 2 story loft. This concept is spectacular in presentation a little less practical in practice, but oh well you’re just staying a couple of nights not living there forever. We had a premiere loft with the bed upstairs I don’t recommend this room for those who like to over indulge in libations, the stairs could be tricky in a drunken stupor but again it was cool. The downstairs was a seating area / work area it was tight for two not really enough seating but would be great for a single traveling on business.

The pool area is really cool, we used it a couple of times (as well as smuggling out a couple of cocktails one night for a late night drink)

The location is great, Sultan Mohammad road is full of bars and restaurants of all types and prices to fit just about anyone ones needs. Really close also to both Clarkes Quay and Robertson Quay for more dining, walking and drinking. The Hotel also offers a free shuttle that will take you to most of the sights around Singapore like Orchard Road or China Town.
The only real downside is the rooms do smell a little musty and the bathroom and shower room are quite small, but again – it is fun place to visit you don’t have to live there.

Room Tip: The pool facing rooms offer a nice view of the pool but get a little loud on the weekends

Stayed here for 2 days last feb

I was offered the room with the bed upstairs but instead i opt for the bed on the lower floor, however the stairway feels sturdy and safe, the check in process is fast and the staffs are helpful

On my 1st impression, the room feels roomy because of the large window,it feels different compared to another hotels i've been to. There are some drawers to put stuff in (2 underneath the bed and 1 underneath the hanger railing) the space management is pretty smart, the separate shower and toilet is a time saver too,no more waiting to use the toilet while someone is taking a shower

I like the concept, however the space is so small, the bathroom feels like mini sauna room and the toilet is soooo claustrophobic and suffocating. The corridor outside the room feels so dark, gotta put more light there

My other complain is the amount of electric plug on the lower floor, simply not enough to charge 4 different gadgets,if i recall correctly there are only 2 near the phone and 2 near the water kettle (1 is already for the kettle) the other plug is near the bathroom/front door, its ridiculous that i have to go upstairs to charge the phones

The free internet is a pain to use,it keeps asking me to enter username and password every few minutes and feels a bit slow

There is no wardrobe in the room, just a railing with only 2 hangers (i think its not enough)

The walk to clarke quay MRT is quite far,and the sign is minimal, its the homework for singapore government, basically its around 20 minutes walk along the river, until you see the shopping centre called "central" right next to swissotel merchant cour,go inside the shopping centre to take the escalator to the mrt, otherwise you have to go down the stairways (around 90 stairs..no exactly sure) the mrt is located on the other side of the river

As i'm not familiar with the area,i also find it difficult to find a convenience store, the nearest 7/11 is on the other side of Moh Sultan Rd (there is a bus that goes to clarke quay mrt,the bus stop is near this 7/11)

To sum up,i would recommend this hotel for those who travel light (small luggage), not too tall (the toilet might be unconfortable for taller folks),likes to walk (the mrt and bus to mrt is pretty far) and willing to try something different (mezzanine on your standard hotel room is a cool concept)

This hotel is very new and the decor is very modern. All the facilities look fantastic and the pool area is especially cool. This hotel was actually more reasonably priced than most of the hotels I looked at.The hotel rooms are split into 2 floors with a very comfy bed on the top floor. The food is of really high quality in both the restaurant and the hotel bar. The staff are very friendly and can't do enough - their English is excellent. The location of the hotel is excellent and the river side is only a couple of minutes walk in a very safe area. Along the river are various bars and restaurants which have a great atmosphere. There is also a boat cruise station by the river which you can use for a water taxi or as a tourist cruise. We took a water taxi to the Marina Bay Sands which is an amazing building and well worth the £10 fee to go to the top. The hotel is only 15-20 mins for the airport and only cost £12 in a taxi.

I stayed here for one night on a stop over after a holiday in Thailand. I was prepared to stay in a small room, but I expected a little more space. For longer stays this hotel would not do. When in a big city I usually are out and about all day and don`t care too much about hotel rooms, but at this hotel it was a struggle to be two people in the room so even staying for one night was a bit difficult. Also be aware: there is a strange smell in the room. One last negative thing, the breakfast is crap. I usually enjoy breakfast at hotels, but not here.

On the positive: the staff was nice enough, the gym was ok and and the pool area nice. I do love Singapore and will be back. But not at this hotel I think.

Nice and interesting hotel. Cannot say, that i was amazed, but their two-storey rooms are somewhat uniqe. Almost like apartment. Small, but separate shower and toilet rooms. Really big window. Pricy as many singaporean hotels, really close to overpricing. Location of hotel not the best in transportation meaning: 10-15 minutes walking from MRT. But looking otherwise, you are in 15 minutes from Clarke Quay. Another 10 minutes, and you are at Esplanade/Merlion/Boat Quay area. So, I'd recomend this hotel to easy-walking types of travellers, for stay about 2-3 nights.

i tried this fairly new hotel as a slightly cheaper alternative to traditional corporate hotels that I stay in at corporate rates of SGD270-300. Still, the price of Studio M hotel is pretty hefty at a corporate rate of SGD220, which puts it a tiny SGD50-70 cheaper than big names such as Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton and Intercontinental. I was curious to go to this new hotel, so I tried it out last week.

It was a bad experience. This hotel is not worth SGD220 at all. Room service is served in PLASTIC containers with PLASTIC forks and knifes. There was a bar/club outside playing loud music all night long until midnight (i came from a transatlantic flight so needed to sleep at 7pm which was IMPOSSIBLE). The hotel management was unable to stop the music of course. There was no bath tub (just a shower), no king size beds (the front desk staff looked as if i was an alien when i requested a king size bed.. "we dont have king size beds, sir, only queen size beds")

In short, this hotel should reduce its rate to SGD100,and cater for backpacker tourists, but stay away from trying to be a business hotel in the SGD 200 category.

Will never repeat, and have askedmy company to remove the hotel from our corporate hotel list.

Room Tip: I asked for a room "away from the all night noise of the clubs", but there was no such roo...

Dear Andy O

We regret that some of your experiences may not have met your expectations. We would like to share that we do try our best with our space constraint, also, to maintain a high standard of hygiene, we choose to use disposable containers for all room service orders.

Nevertheless, we thank you for your effort in highlighting your concerns to us.

I stayed here during my business trip to Singapore.
The room which was provided to me was a loft type room.
Overall experience the bathroom was extremely small. Decoration was average though everything is neatly placed.
Breakfast is okay. The location of the hotel is a bit secluded and not strategically near any MRT station, so expect to take taxi for the easiest method to get around.
