“birthday night of banquet”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2013

We booked the banquet for friday 9th and original price $55 per head for adults but staff rang to advise as public holiday up to $75, with children free. We had to proceed as wanted an early night before returning to australia the next morning. Unfortunately when paying was told the plus plus had to be added SO A VERY EXPENSIVE DINNER. Beautiful food and great service but would probably not spend this sort of money again. Ourbirthday boys enjoyed the evening and the festive organized cakes which was appreciated

“Hi-Tea with lots of spicy food for the adults but not for the kids.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2013

Fortunately, it's 2 paying adults (S$28+++ each) and 1 kid eat free during the promotion month. But with 2 adults and 2 kids, paying S$14+++ for one more kid seems to be too expensive when he ended up munching just fried wanton (dumplings), 2 sticks of satay, crackers and ice cream.
It's a nice spread with salads (kids don't like it), spicy mee goreng, spicy fried rice, rendang, chicken curry, dill curry, nasi briyani, roti prata (kids can't eat them), Taiwan porridge and tim sum (kids are bored with that), usual Japanese rolls, reasonable spread of (kids not impressed) kueh kueh and cakes.
I must say its a good place for the adults to wind down and enjoy delicious tasty meal while chatting away but definitely not a place for the kids despite fantastic service. But topping up for food is slow.
Hope they could cater some non spicy food for family rather. I guess they should stay on with the promotion or even offer one paying adult for 1 kid instead.
I will definitely go there again. But without my kids... I guess not.

“Nice ambience, good spread and some gems amongst average tasting food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2013 via mobile

For tourists in Singapore, the high tea buffet spread is a good representation of the variety of cuisine one can find around the island, all in one sitting :)

Being a local and tasting hawker fare in a tourist spot/hotel setting is usually equal parts disappointment and embarrassment (terrible local food for a ridiculous price and visitors getting ripped off and thinking that food here is So Bad). Thankfully Hard Rock Hotel Starz Restaurant does some justice to local fare and at a reasonable rate (for a really touristy spot) too.

The spread of food includes local must-trys like:
1) Satay (marinated chicken skewered on a stick)
2) Laksa (noodles in a spicy prawn/coconut base soup)
3) Pandan chicken (marinated chicken wrapped in Pandan leaves)
4) Mee Siam (malay spicy dish using beehoon noodles with a lime/coconut milk base gravy)
5) Bak Ku Teh (chinese pork base soup with herbs and peppery undertones)
6) Popiah (various steamed veggies wrapped in a thin wrap - think springrolls but uncooked)
7) Chinese Springrolls
8) Biryani (indian rice with spices and veggie, usually eaten with mutton or chicken based gravy dishes)
9) Nasi Goreng (malay style fried rice)
10) Pan-fried Gyaoza (Pan-fried dumplings made with a veggie/meat paste)

I understand from staff that the menu does change so the list provided just serves as a guide :)

Also the spread of food is much more than the 10 items stated (those are the local must-trys if you're visiting) and includes other standard items like ice-cream, assorted pastries, fruits...(basically standard buffet items)

The Good:
1) Good service! (Very quick clearing of used plates and topping up of drinks)
2) Spread of food is good and there are rather tasty selections (my suggestion at any buffet is to take small portions of everything regardless of how tasty the food LOOKS and eliminate after the first round)
3) Ambience (nice seats and lighting)

The Okay:
1) Drinks are slightly diluted (I order all drinks without ice (natural dislike for ice in drinks) and therefore can tell if there're any dilutions from the standard)
2) Portions of soupy items are too small! (I suppose it's a happy ok since we would naturally complain if we need to keep going back to the counter for more tasty delights)
3) Location (one needs to first find the Hard Rock Hotel -note: not Cafe!- and find the restaurant in the hotel. Quite a walk from the main dining attractions/location

The Bad:
1) Some dishes are Really bland/tasteless. Best to avoid the rice and dry noodle dishes

Points to note:
1) Just to emphasize, it's under the Hard Rock group so the background music may not appeal to everyone. Not to worry however, as the volume is set to a comfortable level :)
2) The choice of free flow soft drinks is fixed at Coke or Sprite. I believe there are paid options available.
3) The place is rather family friendly so do expect the usual screaming of kids and running around. How noisy they get is really dependent on luck as any seasoned traveller will tell you ;)

“Chaotic Breakfast, long queue”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2013

Only ate twice for breakfast and selection was very basic. For paying more than 30+ SGD, this is expensive and not worth the money.

Go in early before 8:30 AM as the queue grows very long and you don't want to start your day in a queue when you'd be doing the same in Universal Studios, Adventure Cove and SEA Aquarium. Food selection in those 2 days didn't change at all so if you're staying there for 3 days, better go somewhere else to have breakfast.

There's nothing much to tell you that it's part of Hard Rock Hotel and can be a generic hotel restaurant. Disappointing for a Themed hotel.
