Date of Stay: April 26-28,2013
Room Type: Deluxe
Loyalty Card: Marriot Rewards
A short caveat : I normally stay next door at the Grand Hyatt, although I love that property, there are times when their rates are just too high. When I saw that Marriott was only at 300SGD a night, I decided to give it a try.
Location: The location is slightly better than the Grand Hyatt since it sits on the intersection of Orchard and Scotts Road. Just outside the hotel there is an escalator to the underpass, so you can cross to ION.
Check-in: I arrive around 4 in the afternoon and there were several people ahead of me, it looked like a busy day for everybody at the counter so I just patiently waited for my turn. Check in was a breeze, I was also informed that any member of Marriott Rewards gets free internet (You need to be a Platinum of Hyatt). When I got to my room it was facing the back and I had a hard time getting 3G (Singtel) connection on my phones, since I paid for data roaming on them I tried going down to ask if there was a different room available, the staff was very kind to look for another room for me.
Room: The room was on the small side, even the work table was rather small...I guess it's pretty standard, but coming from Grand Hyatt, it was relatively small. Although to be honest it's pretty adequate and didn't felt cramped.
Bathroom: It was a simple bathroom, no bathtubs which I don't normally use, but it's best you guys are informed of it. The shower was great, again it's not a very big bathroom but quite good specially if you're just alone.
Breakfast : They have bacon! what's there not to like about the breakfast. I also liked the fact that they had some members of the staff offering baked goodies to guest. I tried a small croissant which they said was freshly baked, it was very good.
Check-out: Check-out was fast and simple, it didn't take more than 5 minutes to get things sorted and I was out of the door.
Overall: I was pretty impressed with the hotel, I've stay at the Meritus Mandarin and the Grand Park Orchard, and it felt like I settled down because the rates at the GH was too high. The Marriott was a better choice, specially for the rate. The rooms were better the service was good, I would probably stay there again in the future.
