“Old hardware and software”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2014

Stayed here for 2 nights for a business trip.
The hotel is old and rooms are small for Singapore.
Got upgraded to a city view room, which was marvelous

The staff was not so good. I came in with my wife and the receptionist said "but you only booked for one, does it mean she will be staying".. my wife had to correct her and say he is my husband! Quite hilarious. the same thing happened at breakfast- I was at work and my wife went to eat at the buffet they asked who she was. Should not happen at a 5 star hotel, especially the Mandarin!!
I also asked for my personal and business profiles to be merged, but despite me asking twice it was not done. Finally after asking for the 3rd time they finally did it.
The location of the hotel is excellent- it's connected to a mall, however this hotel feels old and the rooms are very small.
The icing on the cake was in the morning- I literally had to brush my teeth in the dark, as the master switch was off and would not allow just the toilet light to be on.........

Stayed May 2014, travelled on business

Stayed there at the end of May 14. Was upgraded to the harbour view with the Singapore Flyer, Gardens by the Bay and MSG in full view, looks great at night. Check in was good and everything else from the front desk, jockey, house keeping and etc is really top class. Room is good with bathroom fully equipped with bath tub (with shower), shower cubicle and of course the open WC. Toiletries provided is of good quality. Bed wise, the twin bedded option is a bit small even when pushed together.

The pool is good and with a good view of the surrounding. Didn't have the pleasure of eating in so can't comment on that. The Marina Square shopping mall is just next door so we were there for most meals. MRT station either City Hall or Esplanade is a bit of a walk but since its all air conditioned its ok. Take the taxi to Orchard Road as its just slightly more expensive if you have a group with you. Do take note of the surcharge and ERP during peak hours.

Overall, the hotel is really good and service is excellent. Would probably be more towards the business type traveler but with a family along is good too

This is one of the best hôtels I have been to. Perfect location (take preferably a Harbour view room); food is excellent; staff is fantastic; extremly clean... I see only positives. I will be coming back in some months. Good news!

Room Tip: Chose preferably a Harbour view room; Fantastic view, especially by night

Beautifuly hotel and marvellous staff. This hotel has everything you need and price-wise I feel it was fair for what you got. It is within striking distance of most places you want to visit and we booked a tour of Singapore through the hotel which we thoroughly enjoyed and found rather educational.
Would I go back! In a heartbeat, I would.

We stayed just three nights and were lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite. The room was superb and the views breathtaking. Unfortunately, the cost of the food and drinks was also breathtaking!
This is not to take away from the excellent rooms, service and the best breakfast buffet I have ever seen; we just chose to go elsewhere for our lunch and dinner.
If you chose to stay here I would definitely suggest that you prepay for the breakfast option, it is an experience in itself.

We stayed at the Mandarin Oriental after a gap of about 4 years. I have stayed at many of its competitors and other 5 star hotels in Singapore that are not in the same class. On balance this remains my favourite hotel based on location, ambiance and luxury.

This hotel is located in the Suntec area just to the east of the main business district and is very convenient for the airport.

The location continues to become better as the Marina Bay area develops to be the focus point for leisure visitors and Orchard Road area remains focused on indoor shopping. At the moment the Suntec retail area is undergoing major refurbishment and expansion, but the Marina Bay Casino and Convention Centre (and associated shopping and dining) are a short walk away over a new pedestrian bridge.

The hotel was built nearly 30 years ago but has been well maintained and updated. The hotel has a large atrium. Be aware that city view rooms may have a bit of a walk around the atrium to get to and from the elevators.

The rooms are relatively large, particularly those city view rooms with a balcony. The best views are facing the ocean or Marina Bay, and are priced higher but worthwhile. I did ask for a repair to the wardrobe door but this was not done. One small complaint: the bedroom door is not soundproofed (the windows are) so there is some noise from the atrium.

The beds are rather soft and this means that the king bed has a "w" profile. The sheets are excellent but the relatively thick duvet means the air-con has to be set low to chill the room. The bedroom had floor to ceiling windows with a magnificent view, and effective black-out curtains.

Wifi is everywhere and has good speed, even by the swimming pool.

Breakfast at Cafe Melt is an indulgence - a full range to suit Eastern and Western tastes. It can be busy, particularly between 9-10am on weekends when the staff are overwhelmed but they remain totally charming and helpful.

The swimming pool area has been upgraded quite recently and is very popular except at 2-3pm. The pool is 25m long so it is possible to swim lengths but there is no dedicated swimming lane now. The staff keep the pool area dry and clean and clear up towels as soon as a guest leaves. There are cabanas and shaded areas for seating and there is a nice seating area to have drinks and look at the skyline. This was popular with guests and non-guests who know this place exists on the 5th floor.

Restaurant Dolce Vita has great food and ambiance. Diners can sit inside and see a nice bar and an open kitchen or sit outside and enjoy the views of the pool and the Marina Bay.

Prices: rooms and dining are expensive - in line with worldwide 5 star prices for luxury but less than the Marina Bay Sands. There were a surprising number of families with children rather than pure business travellers or mature couples who were staying at the hotel, so obviously pricing is acceptable. One grumble: one or two families brought their maids and expected the maids to hover around the edge of the pool watching their children.

Would I go back? Yes.

Room Tip: Ask to be near the elevators.

We stayed in several different hotels on our former trips to Singapore and now decided to stay one night in earlier unvisited one. I do not wish to seem like advertiser of this hotel, but it really exceeded my expectations. For those who like fresh air and balcony ,but not only solid glass window I recommend to select corner JR suites. Is it good or bad , but in Club Lounge they are not accepting men in shorts...So we went to main breakfast restaurant and we were astonished by variety of Asian food.We liked it.. As our flight was late in the evening we got our late check out time 5 PM free of charge. This hotel is really expensive but price for value is good.

Room Tip: Corner room club floor
