I had checked online before visiting, so knew what I wanted - Marina View overlooking the city - just fantastic. On arrival, the hotel said we had been upgraded to a majestic club room on the 18 floor overlooking the ocean - and a building site - new marina complex due for completion later this year! We said no and were shown to our originally booked room on the 20th floor. Half the size (still large by UK standards) but not disappointed - with a view to die for!. Our first visit here and we were treated like royalty throughout! if anyone is looking for that special treat with a touch of the orient, in a very central location in Singapore then the Mandarin Oriental is for you. The only negative was the closure of the swimming pool for upgrading on our first day. Guests were to be catered for in neighbouring hotels but apparently due for re-opening in 3 months. We were stopping over en route home from Australia for two nights and this was the icing on the cake. If ever the chance to visit Singapore in the future, the Mandarin Oriental's for me!

From our walk into the hotel till we left...IT WAS PARADISE! The staffs the rooms the views...you name it...everything was EXTRAORDINARILY PERFECT! The morning buffets were excellent with lots of choices! When they knew that we had a late flight they let us checkout late! The ambience of the hotel was amazing... Coz of unfortunate visa problem we had to stay in Singapore two days after and ended up staying at the Elizabeth Far east hotel. Which is good in its own ways but staying the the Mandarin for 3 nights and then to that 3 star waslike two sides of a coin!!! Mandarin oriental you guys do a wonderful job! All the staffs were more than helpful and even went beyond their ways to make us happy! I luved when you call and the person on the other end answers calling your name...the room was perfect too!

Stopped here for 3 nights over Chinese New Year, on our way to New Zealand. Service exemplary, room excellent, and the best nights sleep I've ever had in a hotel. Range of food at breakfast has to be seen to be believed (try the home made yoghurt). Also ate in the Italian restaurant which has a competant maitre'de and excellent food.
Clarke Quay is a short walk along the quayside walkway. There's also quick access to the shopping centre via a passage/ door to the front left of hotel (easy to miss and not very well signed). If I had to find fault it would be: pool area needs some updating; more seats in the foyer area.

The service was superb from the moment we were picked up at the airport by our chauffeur (limo return transfer to airport included as part of the package booked with the hotel). The personalised in-room check-in whilst sipping china tea was very refined and relaxing. The service (and food) in the Cafe Melt and Mortons restaurant was excellent. All staff delivered service that was personal and never seemed to be a chore. Even when the reception staff were bidding us farewell, they were inviting us to stay as long as we wanted, as if we were friends rather than paying guests.

Also included in our package was use of the very elegant Oriental Club Lounge where cocktails and d'oeuvres were served before dinner. Internet access & newspapers, and light refreshments were available throughout the day and the staff were gracious and very helpful.

Our room was smaller than expected for this grade of hotel; space being at a premium in Singapore. The bed however was huge and very comfortable.

The hotel's location is good for shopping at Marina Sq and Suntec, but otherwise is not in a particularly attractive part of the city. We would certainly stay at the Oriental again. My rating would have been closer to 5 if the room had been larger and the hotel situated in a nicer location.

We stayed at the MO Singapore last year and absolutely loved it, so this time we decided to head back again. Unbelievably, it was even better. We landed at 6am and was driven to the hotel in yet another fantastic Mercedes. As it was quite early in the morning, I was quite worried that we might not get a room until closer to their normal check in time.

But nothing to worry about! They actually upgraded us to a Club room so that we can get in there and relax. To be honest, I barely left the hotel in the two days that we were there. The bar was great - very good service; the waitress had poorer English than most but she certainly tried her best, and kept the drinks and nibbles coming. The breakfast was great as always.

Unfortunately the pool was undergoing maintenance at the time, so we couldn't go, but everything else more than made up for it. I won't bother staying anywhere else in Singapore.

Building / grounds : Big brownish building. From the inside, it looks like what was supposed to be futuristic in the 70s'. Neither very cosy nor beautiful. It's been fully renovated in 2005.

Location : Not very convenient during daytime as it is quite far from the shopping spots and the MRT but walking to the esplanade is quite enjoyable during the evening. It is a nice 15mn walk to Clark Quay.

Service - check-in / out : Front desk staff seems to confuse efficiency and cursory manners. When entering the room, I was disappointed by the view and the lady showing us around told us 'next time, you should book a better room if you want a better view". Thank you for the advice. Duly noted ! When I handed over my room key to check-out, I've been told that "all had been already taken care of" (I had prepaid the stay) and ... that's it. No "thank you for staying with us" or "hope to see you again" or even "goodbye" . This is not a big deal but it surprised me to say the least. Hopefully, the lady concierge was very kind and helpful.

Room : We had a premier sea view room. As previously said, the view had really nothing special but the room was nicely furnished and confortable. Bathroom is also nice and convenient. The bed was really confortable.

Breakfast : Huge selection to choose from. A lot of indian dishes, dim sums, fresh juices, pancakes made to order, egg station ... Everything was quite good except the bakeries : croissants and pains au chocolat were quite dry and tasteless. The best spot to seat is the small outdoor patio as it is a bit noisy and dark inside.

Over the last three weeks we spent four nights at the Mandarin Oriental on our want to and from New Zealand. We had stayed there a couple of years ago and were so delighted we decided to go back,no regrets. We booked there limousine service to pick us up at the airport, well worth it.We landed at Changi at 5.45am from manchester and by 6.45am we were in bed.The limo picked us up at the airport, the receptionist was waiting at the hotel entrance and we were taken straight to the room without any fuss.
On the way back we were picked up and when we got to the hotel they apologised for not having the twin room we had booked and did we mind having a suite! The hotel swimming pool is being refurbished so they had made arrangements with the Pan Pacific hotel next door for guests to use their pool.Who ever arranged that did a brilliant job as when we went that pool the service was superb and we were not made to feel like intruders. My wife has to have a gluten free diet which we informed the house restaurant of on the first night, every time we went back they remembered here name and that she was on a special diet.Singapore airlines were also superb in providing gluten free meals on all their flights.Expensive but you got more than you paid for.
