I was surprised that the Fairmont has rooms called 'the Fairmont room' in the north wing, which must be the old wing, that are worn out and bleak.
So be careful how you book. If you get the north wing, you might as well stay in another hotel, as you will not feel like you are in a Fairmont.
We lasted one hour in the 'Fairmont room' before moving into the South Wing. 15th floor, such a stunning view and very comfortable and easy. Great bathroom. Just a little bit worn in places, but they seemed to be upgrading the rooms during the day, I noticed tradesmen about a lot. Not noisy though.
May sound bizarre but we spent hours staring out the window at the Marina Sands Hotel and the Singapore Flyer. We went to top of both, and both were great to do. I am glad we did not stay in Marina Sands, as it is much more exciting to look at the 'ship' on the top of those towers and marvel, than stay there where you could not 'see' what was on top of the hotel. That hotel was very artistic to visit, most the clientele seemed to be Chinese gamblers, as it has a casino.
Fairmont is a top hotel, the desk service, the breakfast restaurant was 6 star for quality and variety (a personal fresh juice chef even) - all was romantic in the South Wing. Nice pools in the hotel, etc.
We used the business centre on several occasions in spite of this being a romantic holiday... not grumbling, we did not expect to have to do business.. and the business centre staff bent over back wards for us and it was very well priced to use the computers and internet.
The location was so good, we loved the 3 or 4 floors below the hotel of shopping centres, food mall, services like massage, hair cuts, etc. It is also close to Chimes with its myriad of upmarket cafes/bars.
Hotel is related to Swisshotel next door and Raffles across the street (yes we had a sling)
We caught local transport so easily. City Hall train station has two lines, red and green, (easy to get train from airport to city hall and hotel is literally right there above you) trains are cheap and quick and best for longer distances, better than cabs.
and we got buses into Chinatown in 5 minutes from hotel. As we flew Singapore Air, we caught the free Sing Air hop on hop off bus right at the hotel, too. Noticed that the other hop on hop off buses, also stopped at Fairmont.
We walked a lot, to the flyer, Marina Sands, China Town, etc. as this hotel is so convenient.
