Great place for a Grand Prix Adventure

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 29 Sept 2010
We were booked in to the Fairmont as part of a motor racing package arranged by a company called Grand Prix Adventures. Hotel is right next to the track - awesome. The whole stay was really good and all aspects of the hotel were spot on, especially as they were so busy with the Grand Prix.
Travel operator also excellent if you want to watch Formula One from some of the best places in Singapore in quality surroundings.
at the hotel, Initial reception was warm and friendly, rooms were large and well equipped, standard of food was excellent, especially the buffets in the suites that had been arranged by the travel company. Pool and Spa also top notch.
I travelled with my son but we will definately return to Singapore with my wife and would stay at the Fairmont again

My plane landed in the early morning, so I was really pleased for the early check-in! Very nice room with a breathtaking view over Singapore Marina Bay! I was really surprised to find a small balcony! The location is great. I definitely come back!

Stayed at this Hotel for one night before Cruising in Asia Pacific. The Hotel was great position, and very simple to come to from Chang-hi on Singapore's clean, effective below ground system. The room was up to date and clean, and the the staff were gracious and helpful.
We furthermore registered when the title of the Hotel was 'The Raffles Plaza', but will not realize how any person could error it for the Raffles itself. When registration, you only need to gaze at the Hotel photographs, read the recount and gaze at the charges to understand that it's not!!! The Raffles itself is literally over the street, and is a should halt for the Long bar with its well known Singapore Sling, and nutshell enclosed floor

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Fairmont. We were welcomed upon arrival and ushered to reception whilst are bags were dealt with.

We were upgraded to a lovely room with a large lounge area. The bed was incredibly comfortable. Bathroom was not the most opulent out there but was of a very good size. We had a balcony overlooking the pool area and skyline.

Dinner at the Szechuan restaurant was delicious with stunning views over the city from our booth (don't be surprised that it is connected to both the shopping centre next door and the hotel). The Ink Bar was also lovely with great cocktails - particularly the air mail.

In a great location and only a short taxi ride away to all of the main sights. We would stay again.

Would recommend this hotel for business and leisure travellers. Not the finest hotel in Singapore, but location is central and staff are most efficient and helpful.

Best thing about the guest rooms (I was in room 1037 South Tower with a city view), there are balconies, with sliding glass doors that open - a nice change from most other hotels which don't allow you to open windows at all.

Business Center is small but does the job, staff can easily handle requests (unlike those at some other hotels in Asia!).

Although I didn't try it, the outdoor pool looked appealing, with a poolside bar and enough patrons so I didn't seem deserted.

Would recommend avoiding the pricey hotel restaurant (Prego), and instead trying the many restaurants inside the Raffles City mall, which connects to hotel.

Of course, you can always cross the street to the Raffles Hotel, and try a drink at the Long Bar or the courtyard cafe. nice.

It's an easy 20 minute walk through the underground shopping links (when the weather is too warm) to the Esplanade, and beyond that a 10 minute stroll (through the park) to the Asian Civilizations museum, which has a pleasant waterside restaurant/bar.

We stayed in the Fairmont for 5 days while visiting Singapore. We arrived very early in the morning, so of course our room wasn't ready yet. We decided to have breakfast in Prego - one of the 9 restaurants run by the Swissotel/Fairmont/Raffles complex. The buffet breakfast was absolutely incredible - but very very expensive. We then got to wait in the hospitality suite for our room to be ready. While we didn't expect the room to be ready right away, we were quoted a time that was clearly unrealistic - so it was rather annoying to have to wait several hours longer than we were told. Once we got into our room though, it was fantastic! We were upgraded to a Deluxe Room, which was great! Although we were only on the 7th floor, we still had an amazing room overlooking the Singapore War Memorial, the Marina Bay Sands, the Singapore Flyer, etc.. The bathroom was great, and the minibar well stocked. All of the lights, air conditioning and drapes were operated via bedside control panels. We did have two minor issues - one with the bathroom lights not turning off and the other with the toilet not flushing properly - both were quickly resolved by maintenance.

Overall, my major pet peeves were with the ridiculous prices in the outlets - which were easily avoided by going into the several malls that were connected to the hotel. Additionally, they had a fabulous pool and spa area - but you had to pay extra to access the hot tub/steam room/sauna/fitness centre facilities. They also don't have wireless internet access in the rooms, which seems a bit archaic. Otherwise though - it was a fantastic hotel in which to base your Singapore travels!
