Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel
Ranked #54 of 316 Hotels in Singapore
Reviewed 16 May 2014

Stayed here on business travel for 9days. Firstly the hotel is in a great location, you can easily have nice evening walks along the river to Clarke Quay ( 25mins ) or go further to Marina Bay area ( 45mins ). You can also walk to the busy Orchard Rd area where all the shops are ( 15mins )

Only used the main restaurant for dinner. The food was always good and plenty to choose from whether you go A La Carte or the buffet option.

The pool is small and you lose the sun after a certain time due to the height of the hotel and surrounding buildings. The gym is well equipped and suitable for short stay.

Overall , enjoyed my stay and would recommend the hotel to anyone staying over in Singapore for no longer than 10days.

after the cold check in I checked in my room and the air-condition was so noisy that I refused the first room ... the second room was acceptable, but small, toilet in the bath room - a five star hotel? Room was noisy, window system a problem ... the room not clean as it should be ... the breakfast area in the lobby not really cosy ... the pool not where people want to be ... all in all this hotel needs an upgrade, urgently and I realized why the rooms quite cheap ... you get what you pay and will for sure not check in again ...

Room Tip: river view, at least and higher floor ...

Stayed in Grand Copthorne Waterfront for 1night, very old hotel with unfriendly staff, the bellboy did nothing to help me when I arrive in taxi...the reception, a malay lady was very very rude, told me to hold on while she just continue typing when I check in...stayed in a room facing the marina bay, the room looks very empty with big space and TV was squeeze to a werid corner, you can actually park a car in the room..everything is old but nicely maintain thou..another thing is theres condominium right infront of the hotel so no privacy if you leave the curtain wide open;D

The only saving grace for this hotel is the location, its tuck near clarke quay and they don't charge crazy price, if you need to buy some grocery you can head to Great World City, there are tons of cafe and a huge supermarket call Cold Storage there. The hotel is also just 10-15min walk along the 'river' to the main Clarke Quay district, theres also alot of restaurant with good atmosphere along the way there but its all kinda expensive. This is a very old hotel so don't expect real nice luxury 5 star here compared to W hotel or the new Westin, its abit worth it for the price thou.
NOTE FOR ALL: If you want a nice river view, get a hotel that is within Clarke Quay main district itself like Swissotel Merchant Court or Novotel, the river beside this hotel is just a big drain with dirty water, nothing fanciful with pretty lights etc...

Room Tip: Higher the better

The hotel location is good, room is spacious in Singapore standard. Checking process was a quick one and the hotel staff are quite helpful. The hotel environment doesn't appeal to me, however, it is personal taste and preferences.
If you looking for a nice and central place for your trip, this might be the hotel you are looking for. But in this price bracket, you have a lot more choices.

We stayed 2 nights in Executive suit, with access to the club lounge. The room itself was ok. The cleaning was not. If you suffer from dust allergy, stay away!
Like to have the details, message me. As compensation, after our complaint, we got a fruit basket...
A room service tray, was standing on a table in front of the elevators for 24 hours...
The pool area not up to the standard for a five star hotel. Closer to a three star. Three sunbeds and three, not moveable, umbrellas and 20 chairs, that was new and nice 15 years ago.
Club lounge: Nice area on the 29 Th. floor. Complimentary evening canapes....Think the kitchen can do much more of it, if they were told to do something good and nice.
Breakfast in the same lounge...Please don't call it a buffet. Just an assortment of things. No fresh rolls, just to take an example.
We have stayed in 8 other five star ranked hotels in Singapore. All in club/suits, To this one, we never go back. No reasons to do that.

Rooms are big, and have excellent view on river and marina bay area. The hotel is not to big and not to small with all the things a business hotel should have. Very modern spa and excellent beauty salon with good and efficient staff. Breakfast is good too. The hotel is 15min walking distance from Clarke Quay and if you are to lazy to walk you can just take the boat in front of the hotel.

I recently was in Singapore to meet some friends and family for 2 days. I checked into the GCW and was nearly turned off the room from the get go. Firstly the air conditioning did not function as required. I basically was sitting in a hot room for a few hours until the air conditioning cooled the room. Secondly , the television - This was ultimately the same as watching an old CRT tv without the antennae ( rabbit ears ) plugged in. All channels were fuzzy volume kept drifting in and out. some channels were louder than others. It was not a pleasant experience staying here. Yes Checkin & Checkout was fast. But what do you want from a hotel stay? A comfortable room - well you wont get that here !

Room Tip: Book a different hotel.
