First Class Service

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 16 Sept 2011
The service at the hotel was second to none. Nothing was too much trouble, we were especially grateful for their help in recovering my wife's camera which she left on the seat of a taxi. The taxi company and driver were traced and the camera returned to us within an hour.

I booked early directly through the hotel website and obtained an extended weekend rate that gave us a late 4pm check out on the Monday afternoon. This made for a relaxing time before a late evening flight back to London. There is a wide range of food on offer, but our best experience was after checking out of our room when we went for High Tea at the Rose Veranda on the Mezannine floor above the main reception area. The food was superb, a wide choice of different cooked foods, and basically go back as many times as you want. The service was excellent, and at S$40, c£20 per head incredible value for money.

If you have time, visit the Orchid Gardens in the Botannical Gardens a short taxi ride from the hotel - stunning colours and variety.

After reading the reviews, I was happy that I was given a room in the Tower block. The room was spacious, with a decent desk. Comfy bed. Free Wifi in the room was a definite plus point. The breakfast buffet was extensive and champagne was available on Sunday!
On the negative side, there was dust on 1 of the shelves in the room. Housekeeping left a dirty rag on the coffee bar 1 day, & I thought that the shower cubicle tiles looked very old - they shd be replaced with marble or similar.
Overall a good experience.

We were lucky enough to have a club room at the Shangri-la that offered amazing views over the city at night. You also get access to the club lounge on the top floor which offers an incredible selection of complimentary snacks and drinks every night. Well worth the additional cost of a club room when you see how expensive drinks are in Singapore.

This hotel has an amazing pool area that makes you feel you are on a tropical holiday rather than in the middle of a busy city. Gym area is large and includes a full change area and steam and sauna facilities. You can also make use of these facilities after check-out to have a shower and relax before heading off to the airport.

The only draw-back to this hotel are the drink prices, but these are high throughout Singapore. But for instance, a coffee at the cafe downstairs was almost double the price of the Starbucks in Orchard Road, which makes it a bit difficult to swallow.

All in all though a great place that I would definitely recommend.

Fabulous hotel and first class service. All the facilities were very luxurious. Food was great and the patisserie down stairs amazing. Staff were excellent and very attentive. It reflected the magic of Singapore. It is a short walk into the main shopping area. so it is very convenient yet private. Felt very safe. Would recommend it to anyone stopping over for a short stay on a long haul flight. it is extremely comfortable and relaxing We couldn't fault anything.

Stayed back in October 2009 - not 2010.

Amazing hotel, a tropical oasis in the middle of the city and set up perfectly for holiday travellers and business travellers.

Great pool for adults and kids and staff all very friendly, helpful and attentive - in true Shangri-La style.

Buffet breakfasts and dinners are mind blowing - not cheap but well worth it (be prepared to take your time to enjoy it properly).

Rooms are spectacular. We were very lucky and got upgrade to a family suite complete with champagne, chocolates, flowers and gifts for the kids when we arrive - special family occasion.

Stayed for 3 nights on the way back to the UK from a trip to Bali with family. A great way to break up the trip and finish the holiday before getting back to reality. Hotel allows you to relax by the pool and chill out and at the same time have easy access to Singapore's top sites and the city and up the pace a bit before heading back.

Highly recommended. Will definitely go back.

Bing a smoker married to a non smoker, I always try to book a hotel room with a balcony when we travel. I have stayed in a few 5 star hotels in Singapore that have a "balcony" (not many hotels in Singapore do, due to the heat, I think) and the Shangri-La has by far the best private balcony with a fantastic view of the tropical pool area. I have decided to stop trying to find another great private balcony and will now only stay at the Shangri-La, Garden Wing when in Singapore.
The gym is also one of the best we have experienced in a hotel.
The Garden Wing has its own reception area so checking in and out is quick and easy.
The only slight drawback of the hotel being off Orchard Road is that taxi's are not always easy to get. If you need to be somewhere at a certain time, it is advisable to book a taxi in advance. Although an extra fee is charged to book a taxi, taxi fares in Singapore are extremely reasonable.
