“No longer the jewel?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 December 2011

On visits to Singapore this has always been the hotel of choice. This time however it failed to match the heights of previous visits and next time I will try elsewhere.
Check in was an issue.I was told that they only had smoking rooms left. Not acceptable said I.
The room will be well cleaned they said. Not acceptable said I.It will be ionized they said. Not acceptable said I.Find me a non smoking room or another hotel said I.Miracoulously a non smoking room was suddenly available but all this nonsense after a 13 hour flight was really frustrating.
The room itself was Ok but looking dated. The light veneer panelling is neither classical or contemporary. It just looks tired.
Yes one of the wings is being refurbished but it will be sometime before the whole hotel is up to speed.
Its a shame as the location remains excellent and the pool a delight.

I was once told that Singapore is Asia for beginners. I understand why. Singapore is the sort of gateway and where you land and spend a day or two before continuing your journey.
And of course the perfect spot to rejuvenate and get some energy before your long-haul flight back to Europe or wherever you are heading.

Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore is the perfect place to stay when travelling through. You probably don´t spend that many nights here due to the fact it is quite expensive.
But it´s worth every SGD spent.

The breakfast is fantastic, the setting is beautiful. The rooms are spacious and you actually feel "at home".
The food is good although expensive. You ask for something special and they fix it.
You pay a little extra and you get very late checkout and drinks and afternoon snacks on the business lounge floor. Not cheap either but, again, worth every Sing dollar spent.

I have stayed at various hotels in Singapore and some have had seaview which is nice but that still can´t beat Shangri-La for the price anyway.

I totally agree with bighalders.

Needless to say I am sure, you can book a limo pickup at the airport taking you straight to the hotel. Doesn´t cost much more than a taxi and well spent money if tired.

Just how good this hotel is. The Shangri-la in Singapore is a faultless hotel that is hard to describe. From flawless check-in to the enormous breakfast to the stunning rooms, the Shanri-la gets it right in so many areas. Highly recommended...did I mention just how good this hotel is?

Stayed May 2011.A large impressive hotel away from the business/main hotel area. The hotel is in a quiet residential area but only 10 mins walk from every designer store imagineable/many restaurants.

Pros : Superb Shangrila service as standard.Reasonable rates (May) compared to business area.Location perfect for peace and quiet in major city.Large impressive lobby, very large pool area(for Singapore city) with spacious gardens and grassy sunbathing area if desired.Large very clean/modern/peaceful rooms ,very little traffic noise.Short walk to many shops/restaurants,taxi ride to Raffles/business district etc,

cons :None (unusual for me.....) ,my favourite Singapore Hotel which will now be my first choice for future trips.

You have to love the far east. The hotels are the best in the world and the Shangri la is up there amoungst the very best, From check in to the room every thing was seamless and calm. This is a word "calm" that i would use to describe the Shangri la a lot. The subtle touches like the changing of the carpet in the lift showing the day of the week, to cold water and iced face towels around the pool. Service cannot be faulted and the old world touch of kneeling to serve although a shock to someone from the west was done with such style and grace you grow to enjoy the gesture.

Room Tip: The tower rooms have superb views
